Have to agree with this. Hate being served up food on those wooden blocks. The amount of times I have complained to my friends 'I just want a proper plate'.

Gotta say I quite like funky ways to be served food.

Especially antipasto on a washing line :smug:

Even Frankie & Benny's have started with this nonsense! We went last night... thankfully, my pizza came on a regular plate, as did my wife's burger. The kids, however... eldest got the "mini hotdog trio" with chips. The hotdogs came on a chopping board and the chips in a tiny metal bucket :fist:. Youngest got her usual chicken bites and chips and they came in what I can only describe as a small tin trough with a handle... though to be fair, she quite enjoyed that.

Love the Newyork potato dippers from there.

I do like when you go to a curry house and get it the metal thing they cooked it in.
Don't even mind the wooden slab things tbh.We have square plates at home.

I'm really not fussy aslong as it's clean.

Edit:The little metal bucket that holds the fries is never big enough.I get the bacon cheese fries as you seem to get more

Love Frankie & Benny's my favourite is the chicken club triple decker.

I don't really care if they serve the food on a block of wood as long as there isn't gravy sloshing off the edge.

"American Hot" pizza almost every time. Bloody delicious. Not too kind on the way out though http://rationalia.com/forum/images/smilies/FIREdevil.gif

See that's the issue though; the wooden blocks are flat with no upturned sides, and my daughter is clumsy AF. Trio of hotdogs flying hither and tither.

That made me laugh. I have felt stuff was going to 'slosh' over the edge and is very off-putting.

I'm not sure if I care too much. I think wooden blocks are better for greasy food perhaps cos they soak up the grease.. put greasy food on a round plate, and the foods gonna get soggy after ten mins. I'm sure there's other half-arsed logic behind other gimmicky-looking plate-alternatives too

But they usually put the greasy food on grease-proof paper on top of the blocks :suspect:. It's a conspiracy.

I quite like the little metal bucket for chips. It keeps them seperate from the rest of the meal, especially if it's greasy. I don't want my chips drowning in meat juices.

You might have a point there! My pet hate though, as TS so succinctly put it, is eating off a chopping board. I got a burger etc served up in what appeared to be a frying pan a few weeks' ago.

I like the presentation that gives your food like a special vibe and links it to the culture the dish is from, all I worry about though is the cleanliness of some of the materials like wood and everything and if they can remove all the bacteria from it, especially when the wood is carved
A very first world problem though

For two weeks at the beginning of 2nd year Uni, I had no money, no plates, and very little food (a couple of huge bags of rice and things like onions, peppers, the occasional chicken breast) which I literally ate out of a frying pan :joker:. I just cooked it and then ate it direct :worry:.

I always use wooden chopping boards (hard wood) because I believe they hold a lot less bacteria than plastic ones but I really don't want my food served on a rectangular chopping board because its flat and food too easily falls off the edge.

I buy and sell lots of vintage ceramics and so often change my plates. At the mo i am rocking Denby Marrakesh

Denby ware is tough and resistant to chipping
