Going to quite a nice place (The Chef's Table, Chester) and I was going to just wear jeans and a jumper but after I said that in a group chat some of my mates are horrified and think I need to dress up more but I don't want to try too hard and be in a dress and look a dick if it is more dressed down

Their website has pictures if anyone want to look and give me much needed advice :worry:

It does not look fancy at all, your suggested attire sounds fine. you dont want to look like you are going to a wedding :joker:
remember if they are nice use their name a lot, it works wonders

Try and think what your date will be wearing.
Smart casual should do it.
Food looks very nice, enjoy your evening Amy Jade.

The food looks fancy af. You could probably ask him if its smart or smart/casual? Be a cute way to break the ice before the date anyway.

have a joke ready
like
"I used to go out with this handsome 4 by 2 plank, he made me sooo joist"
Lterally he will be eating out of your hand (which may also be one of their options)

Oh lol. Im kinda out of ideas already haha, you could keep what you're wearing and tone up your makeup if you think you might be underdressed? Or dress smarter and tone down your makeup if you think you might be overdressed. Or ask him to specifically tell you what he's wearing so you can match his level....
Jeans and a jumper seems quite safe though either way.

It's better to be under dressed when everyone else is fancier than fancier dressed when everyone else is more casual IMO

Looks like a nice place, I hope all goes well
I'd just stick with jeans, but maybe a nice top rather than a jumper? it's up you whatever you feel most comfortable with

I think i'd be making a bit more effort than jeans & jumper , but if that's your thing go with it. I always liked getting dressed up when going somewhere nice to eat.

I would wear something more fancy than jeans and a jumper to a place like that, maybe pants (trousers pants that is) and a nice top if you don't want to wear a dress or skirt?

Bit bloody warm for a jumper. Just wear why you are most comfortable in and have fun xxx

I think if you wear what your comfortable with you're not compromising with who you are, but if you want to make effort because it's a nice place, I don't think it's a bad idea to dress up.
I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't care if you fit the environment of the restaurant (unless they do have a code), and if you can pay your bill at the end then who cares. So go with what you want to wear, and what you think looks good. Have a lovely night.

I didn't see this until now, I would've wished you good luck if I did
How did it go Amy? How did you decide to dress? In my opinion, there's no "perfect" way to dress, as long as you've cleaned up well and you're comfortable what else matters? Obviously first impressions matter but some people prefer someone who gets really dressed up and some prefer people who dress casual - but most would only really care that you made an effort (and I'm sure you look fab effortlessly anyway )

But tbh I read this whole thread thinking "that place is smart casual" and now it's important that you tell us whether or not your choices were correct. Who cares about the date; what were the other patrons wearing??

Not been on a date for three years. Seriously.
And although I would like to find a soul mate, truth is I love being single. :D
Only advice I can give is be yourself on dates.
