I only ever started eating chips with mayonnaise once I moved down south. All my southern flat-mates were obsessed with it, and found it strange that I hadn't tried it. I still love tomato ketchup (Heinz, mainly), but mayonnaise is actually quite nice :p

I love having a little mayonnaise on pasta and it's actually really nice with chips. To dip only though... I mean this isn't a ketchup situation.

I have mayo with chips, salad, pretty much everything. Use it in a jacket potato if you scoop the middle out to mash it up...makes it lovely and creamy (use it if making mash too instead of butter)
