How many times would you dry yourself with a shower/bath towel before it goes in the wash?

I wouldn't dry myself with a used towel? Does that make me abnormal? :worry:

Every bath shower is with a clean towel, then they are put in the wash after drying.

I tend to use my own towels twice, nobody else has access to them.
All towels in the bathroom are thrown in the wash everyday, as is the one in the downstairs cloakroom.
Hubby tends to turn the washer on every couple of days.
Ew every time they're used

Ew, you share towels? :worry:
Even towels that have been washed of somebody else's I'd feel weird. I have my own towels. Any hand/face towel is replaced with a clean one every couple of days and the bath towel i'd say I use about twice. I shower daily so I do.

I'd put it in the wash after I've used it about 2/3 times, and then I'd use a new one.

Washing it after one shower is ridiculous and costly to you and the environment. Once a week is quite sufficient or once a term if you are a student

I think a lot of people on here put their washing in a magic basket and they find it washed and ironed in their drawer
when they have to do it themselves id imagine things change a little

I have quite a lot of towels (and a couple for my cat ) so I don't use them up enough to wash them all at once. But any I have used I wash every weekend along with the rest of my dirty laundry

So what? Think of all the places on your body you dry with that towel, dead skin that's going on to that towel when you dry yourself, wet towels will be the perfect place for bacteria eurghhh this threads disgusting!

There are far more germs (1000x more) on your phone, keyboard and steering wheel than there will be on a 1 week old towel
and you do not get ill using these germ infested items so..

all of the said items go on your hands and your hands touch your nose and mouth and a far far more likely to transfer germs that could result in illness
you dont get ill from having germs on your arse, you get ill when they enter your mouth or nose

This. I wash them once a week and shower every day so I use it 6/7 times before washing it. Essentially all your towel is absorbing is water and if you hang them up and don't leaving them lying around all scrumped up then once a week is perfectly acceptable, every time is ridiculous. It's like those families that say they only fill up one bin bag a week

But I'm still not using those items to clean myself... I feel like your logic is "oh **** well other things make me unclean during the day, might as well not bother with cleaning myself after my shower to help begin the process" and I just can't think that way.. counterproductive almost.

I was answering Josys post and highlighting how illogical it was
This worry of "germs" is illogical when people have no idea what germs, what they will do or if anyone has ever got ill from a slightly unwashed towel for example
Its a throwback to the days when we first realised that "germs" existed and then became paranoid about a whole raft of things
Marsh.
14-09-2017, 12:37 PM
Yeah after you've used your freshly laundered towel you're then going and sitting your arse on that toilet seat full of germs so I don't get the obsession with a germ free towel. It isn't going to happen.
By all means it be clean and not smelly or left damp etc that's obvious. But washing after every single use is excessive.
I mean what about hand towels? From what people do with their hands each and every day there's probably more harmful germs on those and yet I doubt you wash them after each and every time someone's dried their hands?

I dont think its illogical.. there's a certain objective to showering and towel-drying.. you kinda miss that using an unclean towel imo, as you would if you were to use your steering wheel to dry yourself after a shower..
But the function of a phone or a steering wheel just isn't comparable on any level, so I don't think your argument refutes Josy's...
time and a place for germs maybe, thats not gonna be directly after your shower
Illogical
There are far more germs (1000x more) on your phone, keyboard and steering wheel than there will be on a 1 week old towel
and you do not get ill using these germ infested items so..Damp humid towels are a massive breeding ground for germs.
Might start calling you germy tbh
I wash my hands plus use bacterial hand gel multiple times during the day which hopefully deals with any germs from phone, keyboard use etc...
You dry your arsehole, your ballbag, inbetween your toes and everything else with a towel then hang it back up damp to reuse :omgno:

I use one towel for my hair that I was after every 2 or 3 uses and one for my body that I wash after every use.
Just use different ones bc I get paranoid I'll dry my hair and face with the bit ive just scrubbed my balls with.

Might make the bacteria dormant I suppose (I mean, probably wouldnt, cba to google, but they definitely wont thrive outside as much as they would when leaving it in the bathroom or an airing cupboard, so theres at least half a point there!). Its just not gonna kill'm like a washing machine would, you're still gonna be drying yourself by rubbing bacteria on to your body after a shower!

Yeah, exposure to germs is a good thing within reason, and it's needed to keep your immune system from weakening. It makes you stronger and healthier in the long run. A towel that's been used on a clean body, that itself dries soon after, can't hold too many germs I'd imagine... probably just the right amount :hee:

I'll do one big towel wash every week and we have 6 towels in total between two of us. Honestly I think bacteria is inevitable anywhere, for example a lot of you after typing on your keyboard/phone may have picked up a sandwich for example and whatever germs could be there may be transferred into your mouth.
Then again growing up we'd wash all ours towels once a week at off-peak hour and wouldn't dare venture off that even if there were no towels left, so I guess it's more natural to me.
