But apart from creepy crawlies, there are ones that fly and sting,
again and again, yes, it is the time for Wasps.

Trillions & Trillions of the things and you may just get stung. But they will keep
stinging and they won't die, but you might?

Some people can be badly allergic to Wasp or Bee sting, but will never find out,
until it is too late. Have you been stung?

Wasp-sting warning after deaths

Wasp stings can lead to fatal allergic reactions
The deaths of two
men after they were stung by wasps have led experts to reinforce warnings
of the dangers of allergic reactions to venom.
The men, both from Hampshire, died from anaphylactic shock.

Allergy experts say it is rarely the first sting that causes the allergic reaction,
so people should always watch for signs such as feeling faint.

Insect experts say wasp numbers are back to normal after several years where
there were fewer than expected.

The problem with these sorts of reactions is it isn't necessarily the first
or second sting that causes them

The two men who died were father-of-three Ron Allan, stung by a swarm of wasps
after disturbing a nest as he worked in his garden in Itchen Abbas on July 21 and
farm labourer Andy Conduct, from Alresford, stung five times by wasps in his garden,
who died in hospital two days later on August 7.

Mr Allan had never previously suffered an allergic reaction to a wasp sting, while
Mr Conduct had been stung in the weeks before his death and had been given
antihistamine tablets.

Inquests have been opened and adjourned into both deaths.

Warning signs

Muriel Simmons, of the charity Allergy UK, said the men's tragic deaths reinforced
the need for people to watch out for signs they had had a dangerous reaction to the
venom in a sting.

She said: "The problem with these sorts of reactions is it isn't necessarily the first
or second sting that causes them.

"It may be that the body deals with the venom the first time. But, by the later stings,
the body knows what it is dealing with and the immune system goes into overdrive."

Symptoms can include tingling, feeling faint or even collapsing and vomiting.

Anyone who experiences these symptoms - even if they have previously been fine
after a sting - should call 999.

Matt Shardlow from the insect charity Buglife warned wasps are a particular problem
in the late summer.

He added: "Based on the trend in allergic reactions, we would expect to see a
long-term increase in the number of wasp (sting) deaths."

A health select committee in 2004 said: "Levels of allergy in the population have
soared in recent years.

"Allergies are present in around 30% of the adult population, but the figure is higher
for children, with 40% of children having some form of allergy."

They are very dangerous, Ruth.El.

Even when they are dead. Think of all the poison that is still contained within.

Don't crush them with your fingers.

and the baby wasps, are just as bad:cloud:

They don't do too much flying. They fly onto something and crawl about and stay there.

Then you touch them by accident and get stung.

But just as the article says, you could die?

My youngest daughter is allergic to wasp stings along with many other things that we carry adrenalin for. With luck and swift treatment she should be ok and luckily she is so scared after reading things like that Nick that she always has an epipen with her and all her friends etc are aware of how to use it.

Also I was stung on the thumb by a wasp last week and it hurt for days - damn thing :sad:

It takes him about a day to get back to his normal self, he also is allergic to horsefly bites, he was doing so work on a farm once and he upset a whole nest of them and was stung many times and he was really bad after that and had to drive home as nobody else was around, this was when he didnt have a mobile either.

I've luckily never been stung, it may well run in the family so I'm very cautious.

To Sunny:- I know that many people are allergic to Wasp stings and I also know one person who nearly died.

This is one of the reasons I brought it up

Being allergic to Wasp stings, could run in the family, that is possible of course.
I have never been stung and it makes me think too:sad:

If you get stung on your tongue, it can kill you. I have heard that before.

I hate wasps! :mad:

I've been stung by one 6 years in a row .... and each time the reaction gets worse.

The last time, I was picking up grass cuttings in the garden, and must have swept up a wasp along with them which stung me at the base of my wedding ring finger. :shocked:

Luckily I took my ring off straight away, because despite taking antihistamines immediately, not only did my finger swell up to 3 times its original size, but the back and front of my hand did too ........ it was gross. :conf2:

It was 3 weeks until I could put my ring back on.

Dreading the next one ...................

That's awful Kaz:sad: I guess that some people are just very unlucky with Wasps or Bees.

The worst thing about Wasps, is that they can just keep stinging & stinging. It is different for a Bee.

I had a Wasp head-but itself into my hand, but I think it scared the Wasp, more than it scared me.

It was hovering around one of those flourescent neon tubes in my Garage and I had to get work done and have a Wasp flying around too.

It was dangerous, but I believe that if you don't harm them, they won't harm you.

But I am probably very wrong, aren't I?

Four times I was actively sought out by the wasp - just walking around minding my own business when they buzzed up and stung me ..... three times on the arm and once on my thumb.

The fifth time I was lying on a lounger in a swimming pool in Spain .... the blighter flew down, stung me on the top of my arm, and flew off again. By the time I'd got to the side of the pool to take my antihistamines, my arm was twice it's size. :rolleyes:

Sometimes it can be perfume or something which attracts them. I find that they come near me, but I jump out the way, very quickly.

Sunny said she got stung on the thumb too.

I shall watch out for that:wink:

Wasps were extinct in my area in 2005, didn't see any at all. And now I'm seeing them everywhere.

I was 8 years old, and my mouth was covered in sticky toffee and dandelion& Burdock drink, wasp came right infront of my mouth, I screamed so loud it dropped dead on the floor.

Having Wasp killer spray, sprayed in your ear is a thought that makes me cringe. Yes, terifying:bawling:

We are in for a heat-wave this year and the Wasps will be very commonplace, that's the real problem.

If you get stung on the tongue, you can almost certainly die or be in serious trouble:sad:

Jellyfish can be extremely deadly, but a Wasp sting can also be, if you are allergic to the poison which get's injected into you.

I haven't been stung YET, hopefully NOT.

I hate the baby-wasps. Nobody should underestimate them.

When I see a Wasp in the house, I place the open-part of a jam-jar over it and then get a piece of card and slide the jar onto it and hold the card over the top of the jar opening and so, keep the Wasp inside and then let it go.

i got stung by a bee when i was about 5 i was at school i was so scared i had to go and sit in the hall bit and watch these people rehearsing this play and there was this lad in a bee suit i cried for hours its well funny now i look back on it though because what were the odds on a boy in a bee suit being around after i'd been stung
