Ugh I'm currently trying to find a phone on eBay I found one and bid on it then got in a bidding war last minute and the person won it by just £1. I'm really terrible because I get all flustered and now I'm eating into a depression I need tips on how to win an auction.

You can select a max-bid so that it automatically one-ups the other guy directly after they place a bid. Thats probably how they beat you.

Genuinely made a hefty profit on ebay in my second year by buying things in bulk and selling them individually. I'd always get so excited when two people place a max-bid towards the end!

I did this too but they just out-bid me.

In many cases that's true, but once my brother wanted some hard wood gates that had never been fitted so as new, so he emailed the seller and offered 200 to buy now and they would not have to pay final value fee, they said they were letting the auction run till the end.

My brother won the gates for 76 pounds and they had to pay fees.

Best deal, won a cylinder head that was making 200 on average for 1 pound with free postage, seller said every one must of been watching the football.

Now days ebay is full of scammers and time wasters, ebay gets money from buyer and seller but they wont ban the idiots who bid and don't turn up.

Recently had one such idiot who dad that to me and did it to seven others, and just for insult ebay tryed to take the fees from my bank wen I had not had not even sold the item, and put a hold on my account.

If you are buying a phone. Do some completed item research to see what the phone sells at in auction and BIN format. You will get a good idea that say they phone sells around £150 auction and £200 BIN. Look for listings that end during the week and avoid Sundays and Friday Sat night where people have been drinking and will spend more.

Decide how much you want to pay max and then identify the phone (making sure the seller is UK reg and in good standing) and make your max bid (always make it plus say 2.55 over a round number so if you want to bid 150 make it 152.55 so you avoid the masses who will bid 150 or 150.20 or 150.55 or 151 and then sit back and if someone bids 153 then good luck to them as its over your budget and another phone will come along)

I hate bidding I always get carried away and get annoyed when I'm out bid so bid more and end up paying a fortune.

I prefer buy it now. :hmph:

Snipe at the very last second with your absolute maximum bid (or as LT says, an odd number just over it).

If it goes for more then chances are someone had a max bid set way above what you were willing to pay.
