Any suggestions for places to go and sights to see for 9-hour stop over late evening/early morning. Are there things to do close to airport?

Dubai is excellent! Are you sure you're not allowed to leave the airport?

My son in particular is keen to see the local nightlife and I’m sure we will all be in need of some fresh air and stretching our legs by then. Little apprehensive though.

Could you expand on that. What are the bars like and is there likely to be anything open after midnight?

I don't know about near the airport but you could take a taxi into Dubai, have a look the Burj Khalifa, the fountains, and the Dubai Mall which has a huge aquarium and indoor ski slope, or go to a souk or take a river trip?

Yes, I read about that and cannot say it isn’t a bit disturbing. Poor guy, I don’t believe it. Can’t let it stop us going out of the airport though but will just be extra vigilant.

im confused by that story, is he a gay guy being overly flirty, or was it actually a miss understanding?

My son jumped off the barj khalifa when there in a harness, he said it was fun. :umm2:

You should do a few shots of vodka and then go around grabbing crotches Brillo, it is great fun and you will definitely not go to Middle Eastern jail forever. Go on. Live a little.

OMG - he sounds a bit like mine - fearless. Me, on the other hand, I almost have heart failure just thinking about it.

He jumped off a building in Canada too, he was talking about planes and parachutes but so far thankfully that hasn't happened. I keep telling him not to tell me until after if he must do it.
