Interesting article about the possible cause of dyslexia. It seems it’s about the arrangement of cells in the eyes rather than anything to do with the brain.

Random but this reminds me of when I was in year one, we either had a TA who occasionally took lessons, or two class teachers (can't really remember, I didn't much like this one so didn't care too much haha), and she told us that our eyes are literally part of our brain, and drew a picture of a "cross section" of a head, with the brain poking out of the eyeholes.
I hope the real teacher told her off for telling such ridiculous lies to young kids!

Completely overselling their findings! I'm calling bull**** all over the place, I can't get hold of the original paper without giving them money though and cba to do that. If dyslexia can be cured by fixing a light receptor in one eye, dyslexic people would have worked out centuries ago that all they'd have to do is simply close one eye whilst reading!

Their article was only published today, I'm sure a load of other people would have called bull**** by this time next week. This just doesn't make sense to me. It wouldn't be the reason why they learn to talk later, why they struggle to learn or pronounce new words, or spelling etc. Dyslexia isn't only reading, their findings are only relevant to reading.

At the very least, the symmetry in the eyes could be an indicator, it could be that dyslexia causes the eyes to have this symmetry while also causing everything else it does. Sure, fixing that eye problem might not cure dyslexia as a whole, but finding the eye problem might help diagnose dyslexia.

None of these articles mention the eye symmetry thing, the closest is a doctor mentioning the problem may be partially vision based rather than just in the brain's wiring, so that helps to validate the study.

Oh for sure it would indicate that they would struggle to read in later life, absolutely, thats an excellent finding.

They oversold it a bit though being the 'cure of dyslexia is all in the eyes'! Like thats just ignoring the very basic cognitive elements of dyslexia that happen through infancy even before the concept of reading (or walking) is understood by the child.

A better way for them to present their claims would be something like, "we found a way to cure the part of dyslexia which interferes with their reading abilities", or something. They've certainly found a physiological explanation for why closing one eye apparently works.

I completely agree, and tbf, I imagine they wrote something like that in their article but bigged it up themselves for the media, or tbf, the media may have bigged it up on their behalf for more clicks.
