Netflix has partnered with E4 for the upcoming series based on Charles Forsman’s 2013 wildly beloved, critically acclaimed, and award-winning comic book series, titled – you guessed it – “The End of the ****ing World.” According to Digital Spy, director Jonathan Entwistle calls it “a live action version which will transport Charles’s visions of the US to a nihilistic, recession-laden UK.”

Channel4 gives us a delightfully moody taste of what to expect:

James, 17, is pretty sure he’s a psychopath – emotionally detached, cold and disdainful, he’s decided he’s ready to graduate from killing animals. He thinks it might be interesting to kill something bigger…a human. And he’s got the perfect person in mind…

Alyssa, also 17, is new in school – cool and moody, she’s existential angst made flesh. But despite being popular at school, she still feels like she doesn’t belong. Spotting James one day at school, however, she thinks she may have found a soulmate…

When things come to a head at home between Alyssa, her mother and stepdad, she leaves and persuades James to join her in search of her real father. And so begins a journey of discovery that becomes progressively ominous as James’s urge to act on his sociopathic and violent inclinations increase while Alyssa, blinded by young love, remains wilfully ignorant of the consequences that lie at the end of the road. One night, however, the pair find themselves caught up in events that lead them down an ever more menacing and surreal path."

Jessica Barden (“Penny Dreadful“) and Alex Lawther (“Black Mirror“) star in the project with Charlie Covell serving as the writer. Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak will direct, with Kate Ogborn as producer. “The End of the ****ing World” launches on Channel 4 in the U.K. on October 24th and hopefully Netflix won’t take too long to bring it to the rest of the world.

I guess it only ends with a gun shot and a black screen, perhaps he survives it? Still a bit random to run off like that

i didn’t GET why

he started running with the gun imstead of just like handing himself in? and also idg why they started shooting @ him when he wasn’t a threat like that was just messy

Yeh me either, had the exact same thought process, I'd love a second season i suppose its possible if they let him off as he was 17 during the crimes, and they just shot his leg before arresting him, and whilst his wound heals, he plots for revenge on the girls dad, whilst living in a detention centre or sumin

I loved it for the most part but the last two episodes felt so rushed and haphazard that it tainted it a bit for me.

He wanted to take all of the blame and her to be found totally innocent, and he looks more guilty if he runs off with a gun. It's also kind of implied that he knew he would be shot / wanted to be shot as that makes it all "open and shut".

But yeah, realistically there's no way they'd shoot a fleeing suspect in the back, even an armed one, unless he shot at them first. Bit of a plot hole there...

Other than that I loved it though. But they better not make a season 2... It would ruin it. It's a self contained, and complete, story... It would be like making a sequel to a black mirror episode.

I lowkey agree with Toy Soldier tbh. It would feel more special/cult-like if it just remained as a one-off thing. However, I wouldn't kick up a fuss if they do announce a second series.

I just don't see what more there is to tell of their story... it's perfect as it is.

Although, I wouldn't be disappointed (or surprised) if they do more seasons under the same name but with a whole new story. I guess sort of like Black Mirror but with it being standalone seasons rather than standalone episodes. It was so well written and well made that I can't imagine 4 / Netflix passing up the chance for more from the creators.

We never saw the guy get shot, we just heard the gunshot as he ran away. Hes probably still alive, and on the run? Or surviving jail? Either way, I’m excited. This series was excellent.

I'll watch it because it was so well made that I can't see a second season not also being well made... but I still say it would have been a much more powerful story if he was killed protecting her. James being alive kind of ruins S1 :shrug:. It seems like both of them are confirmed for S2.

Though there's an outside chance of them going the American Horror Story route and having the same actors playing different characters in a new story? :think: I would guess not, though.
