View Full Version : Council restricts number of dogs that can be walked at once

The thinking behind the restriction in this story seems quite sensible to me. While it might be annoying if you have more dogs than the ban allows you to walk at once, you should always be in control of your pets and the more you have the harder that is to achieve.

Do others have thoughts on this?

Difficult one.
Common sense would tell me that 6 is too many, even if you are a dog walker.
However I am thinking of people like Mizzy who might have more than 4 greyhounds/whippets to walk all together.
Maybe the law could apply to built up areas but be more lax elsewhere.

I see lots of dog walkers and they drive fans and pick them up and do one walk for lot sometimes over 10 dogs and it is very intimidating. I support this law and think its right.
will a poem be brewing ? I am sure if I remember correctly had more then 10 dogs with me at one time in my hey day and they all did yaleeeeeeeeee .

I think it's pretty sensible, although maybe it should depend on the size of the dogs as well, It's a probably alot easier to manage little dogs

This is tricky.
I think where there is a profession of dog walking by anyone, there should be tests and standards to reach before doing that work for others.
I can well see the problem this could create for those providing a service of dog walking.
However, I do come across people with over 4 dogs who don't seem in control.
The dog fouling is a separate issue, picking up after one dog or 4 to 6 takes seconds.
I'd say it's more people who come out without bags or one dog who at times don't pick up the mess.
That is always going to be a hard one to resolve.
Overall however I support a limit on how many dogs should be walked by one person.
With perhaps a bit of compromise for fully trained professional dog walkers.

I only have the one dog, so I never have this problem, although she does get out at least once every day, if not twice.
But if you’re a dog walker, what then?
I doubt this will happen, or if it does, i doubt it will last tbh
Just sounds like the powers that be are telling us we arnt capable of walking 4 or 5 dogs at a time....they need to ****.

I have 8 dogs (7 whippets and a greyhound) I only ever take two out @ a time, due to the fact if they seen a cat/rabbit/loose dog etc id more than likely get pulled over, plus any more than two and it becomes difficult to pick up the poop. I do about 5 walks a day covering between 7 and 10 miles. keeps me fit lol

It makes sense to me. But a lot depends on the type of dogs as walking several large strong dogs at once raises issues around whether one handler can control them if something were to happen and potentially presents a risk to the safety of others.

That sounds sensible to me, I don't see how someone could manage 6 big dogs properly tbh.

tinsels mother gem is horrible to walk, she scuttles rather that walks, hates bikes so does tinsel especially if theyre on the footpath. She also hates other dogs, so I tend to walk her alone now, its easier. Shes not that big either lol

After reading what you have to say Mizzy then I would say that the rule sounds reasonable enough then.
As you say, dogs can get distracted easily, and we only have 2 hands to control them.
You must be very fit with all that walking.
