View Full Version : Should Patel be sacked?

Patels trip to Africa has just been cut short by a furious PM. As more revelations come out about Priti Patels 12 secret political meetings during her 13 day holiday in Israel. Does she deserve to be sacked for her treachery?

She's awful, should never have been a minister anyway.
Definitely yes for me.

She even it seems, set out to deceive the Prime Minister.

As none of us know anything about what happened yet, not even the prime minister, I'll save my verdict of this woman's career until I know more.

Yes without a shadow of a doubt, she has broken the ministerial code as well as lied through her teeth, the meetings that she had were also at best dubious.

'Of all the meetings that Priti Patel held with Israeli ministers and officials, the meetings with Gilad Erdan, Israel’s public security and strategic affairs minister, are the most unusual and potentially damaging. She met him on her visit to Israel in August, and again in September in London. (See 7.27am.)

Erdan, an ambitious and abrasive member of Netanyahu’s own right wing Likud party, is better known for working against the kind of human rights advocates familiar to DfID staffers from their work.'

I can't help but think that her meetings are all in preparation for when human rights are no longer a 'thing' in the UK.... :/

As far as I know she was discussing monetary aid for the Israeli army to help them deal with with refugees from Syria. The bitch...

And she's Secretary of State for International Development so it's not exactly outside her purview.

I thought you said you didn't know enough to comment...what changed?
I'm aware of her role, the meetings were not however as representative of the state were they?

All she was doing was diverting a few quid in the direction of the Israeli army, not sure what the big deal is?

The fact is, she lied to the PM. She's just shown Britain that May can't police her own cabinet. What she discussed in Israel is irrelevant. She misleads the press, she misleads the foreign office and she misleads the prime minister.

I think what happens next reflects on May's suitability to run this country.

All sounds a bit off to me. A lot of meetings to say she was on holiday.
What on earth was she thinking about?
I think a little reshuffle should be on the cards.

Exactly, she went out on a limb likely believing her arrogance would win through for her.

She lied as to saying the Foreign secretary knew beforehand and now it seems has failed to disclose further vital info to her Prime Minister.

She cannot be trusted, it would astound me if Mrs May allowed to her to now remain a Minister.

Was that in reference to the Golan Heights, why would she give money for an area they have no claim to out of interest?

It does indeed, why the subterfuge that's what I don't understand? Why was it said that the PM was unaware initially, the sensitive nature of the discussions into the area the Israeli army has no claim to?
Patel was insistent she was holidaying during these meeting, why do that?... none of this makes any sense :/

Oh.. I think I get it, may sent Priti to do bojos job as she daren't sent bojo! But she didn't want him to know.

The Spectator has been quick to pick up on the Jewish Chronicle revelation, so this is going to be international before the days out.

Sensational implications of JC story. 1) PM knew about and endorsed Patel freelancing with Israel Gov, despite Downing St denials; 2) & Patel has therefore tainted PM by not following government protocol. This is worse for Patel than PM

Tory stooge Peston, Why if the PM knew and endorsed Patel is this worse for Patel?....

Its only a guess but if Downing Street broke the ministerial code of conduct, Patel will have to be used as the sacrificial lamb?

i think she was up to something dodgy personally. As a member of the government, you don't just meet up with other governments unofficially for talks when you are on holiday. She isn't stupid, she knows the rules, if the meeting wasn't sanctioned by the UK government she should be out on her ass.

Downing Street is denying the Jewish Chronicle story:

"“It is not true that the Prime Minister knew about the International Development Secretary’s meeting with PM Netanyahu before Friday 3rd November. It is equally untrue to say that No 10 asked DfID to remove any meetings from the list they published this week."

Have you seen the tweets from those she attended meetings with complete with photograph? If there's the suggestion May didn't know about this then that makes her appear even more ineffective than was suspected.

To labour a hackneyed old phrase, they would say that, wouldn't they.

This is my area of work. I work for the government and travel to Israel a lot. If No.10 didn't know about Patel's visit I'd be very surprised. If they did and they are denying it... sounds more plausible.

Still, it gives Mrs May a chance to lurch away from yesterday's problem and collapse on to this one.

That will be avoided if at all possible.
He would be far more dangerous to Mrs May on the backbenches.

Yes however DR,like you I hope it comes about too.

Absolutely good riddance to Patel from me.

Which made it all out to be pretty funny. I'm guessing its a little more serious than amusing however...so going to read properly about it now D:

In my opinion, Patel has taken one for the team. Of COURSE No.10 knew about these meetings. If they didn't they're inept... but then we kind of know that.
