Paris Hilton may end up spending less than half of her jail sentence behind bars, it has emerged.
Good news for Paris. Police chiefs say good behaviour and a shortage of prison cells may mean the socialite could be out three weeks into her 45-day sentence for probation violation.
"She will be treated like any other inmate who's classified as a low-level security risk," Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told the Los Angeles Times.
Hilton, 26, was jailed after a court ruled she had broken her probation by twice driving while banned earlier this year following a conviction for drink-driving.
A judge said her sentence would start on June 5.
Despite living in the lap of luxury all her life, Hilton said she was ready to face her punishment.
"I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation," Hilton said in a statement.
"I do not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation. However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse."
She intends to appeal and her fans have posted a petition on the internet urging Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her.
It is not the first time celebrities have had their sentences cut because of jail overcrowding and good behaviour.
Last year, Lost actress Michelle Rodriguez was sentenced to 60 days in jail for violating probation after her drunken driving arrest in Hawaii.
She was released within hours because of overcrowding.
