SO I have decided to re-watch all seven seasons of one of my favourite all time shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I remember when I was young saving up for the DVD boxsets that were £15 from HMV but DVD's became redundant and I no longer have them :joker: I will recap each episode, give a rating out of 5 and then when I'm done rank all the seasons... if anyone is interested. This may take some time, I'll try and get through season one and two over the Christmas holidays.

:amazed: One of the best shows of all time. I started watching it about 2 or 3 years ago but stopped around Season 5 (I think) and I keep saying I'll start it up again, this might push me into doing it

S1. Ep1. "Welcome To The Hellmouth":

In spoiler tags incase RileyH doesn't want to read before writing his opinion

Even though I must've watched this episode countless of time the opening scene where Darla turns around to bite that guy still shock me for some reason (love Darla). I love the early seasons because they're so reminiscent of those 90's teen drama's but Buffy was always so much more. Joss Whedon balances horror and comedy so perfectly you'll find it hard to find another writer who does it so perfectly. Also the 90's fashion is so nostalgic I just love Buffy's first outfit when she joins Sunnydale High (crop top and red velvet skirt HELLO).

Although Xander and Willow are great characters (obviously, Scooby gang <3)
Cordelia really shines as a character more than most as she gets the best lines "It's in the bad part of town. You know, just a few block away from the good part of town". It's mad to think that Charisma auditioned for the role of Buffy and Sarah Michelle for Cordelia. I also love the introduction of the library where so many things are going to happen and the start of Buffy's relationship with Giles. Her meeting Angel in the back alley too with all that sexual tension.

I forgot how good the vampire prosthetics are, they don't look cheap or 20 years old (anyone else think that the demonic look is hot? The Master, I would bang) and the props and settings are so detailed and realistic like in The Master's layre for example.

Oh I forgot this episode was in two parts </3 To be continued... I wonder if Buffy will survive or die after one episode :worry:

Quote of the episode: "Seize the moment. Cause tomorrow, you might be dead"
- Buffy Summers

Overall, an iconic introduction to the slayer, Sunnydale, the Scooby Gang and vampires.

5/5 Stars.

Screaming at the unaired pilot episode. Who the fuq is that playing Willow? Thank god they switch to Alyson Hannigan it just doesn't feel the same. Cordelia's even more hilarious in this, "No I'm sure it was natural causes. He crawled up in the locker and died of old age"

"The new kid? She seems kinda weird to me. I mean, what kind of name is Buffy?"
"Hey, Aphrodisia!"

Buffy was a classic good show :) . But i much prefer the older seasons in the beginning . After season 4 it felt like the magic was going a bit and they lost the plot a bit and the much later seasons and episodes felt a bit anti climax  , i still watched them but i just loved season 1- 4 the best ! .

I already rewatched all of Buffy and Angel this year :umm2:...

If anyone's interested in the official order of how good each season is :idc:

Buffy: 3 > 1 > 2 > 7 > 6 > 4 > 5

I really struggle with S4 and 5 tbh and I can sort of see why it was almost cancelled at the end of S5? It struggled to find direction after the high school arc ending with S3. 4 is better than 5 because of some great standalone episodes + Spike living in Giles' bath... 5 is sort of daft and the Dawn canon-reset excuse is lame. By S6 / 7 you kind of forget that she wasn't always there but in S5 it's grating as f.

Angel: 2 > 1 > 3 > 5 > 4

I personally find Angel pretty much flawless  except S4 which was a mis-step... Connor is TOO irritating and whiney, which is a shame because the character had some potential in his first couple of episodes + by the end of S5, and also Jasmine was a lame villain, and no one noticing that Cordelia was evil while she swanned around in black lace saying "muahahahaha" was ridiculous. Plus Wesley and Lilah make me feel a bit queasy.

That said, the Angelus episodes were good, especially Angelus vs Faith.

Season 5 did have The Body though, one of the greatest episodes of any TV show

The three highest rated episodes of Buffy (9.8, 9.7 and 9.7 on IMDB) are "Once More With Feeling", "Hush" and "The Body"...

Once More With Feeling is all singing and dancing,
Hush has no spoken dialogue and is acclaimed for its orchestral soundtrack
...and The Body has no music at all in the episode.

I personally rate The Body and Hush very highly (which is odd, as seasons 4 and 5 are my least favourite seasons overall) but I can't stand OMWF :joker:. I just don't like musicals :worry:... I can't do it... I was forced to go to "Evita" in the cinema when I was 11 and it was the most excruciating 2 hours of my entire life.

I love S3 too TS! From memory S2 and 7 are my favs but it might change with this rewatch. I remember I didn’t like S4 all too much with The Initiative silliness.

Oh yeah Hush was brilliant as well!

I remember disliking Riley which I think was around S4 and since he was in it quite a bit a bit that dragged it down slightly.

I'm assuming we're all in agreement that 'Where the Wild Things Are' is the worst episode

"Buffy and Riley's passionate lovemaking energizes supernatural elements inside a frat house."

:joker: the description says it all. I think the actual lowest rated (although this is pretty close) is "Beer Bad"... but I kind of liked it in a daft, filler-episode way .

Ah I get the urge to watch these again sometmes, I tend to give up...I agree with TS that Angel was fantastic, I didn't actually have any gripes about that at all until the whole...pregnant Cordelia thing which I found really stupid. Also was a bit grossed out by her shagging a kid. I mean, I know he wasn't meant to be a kid (or was he?) but he looked like..13 for ****s sake. :umm2: Was still a pretty decent show though ignoing these things..did not annoy me nearly as much as some problems with Buffy.

Season 1 is a tough rewatch because it's quite dated at this point... it has that obvious "90's telly" vibe. It's a fun watch for nostalgia but hard to get into. S3 onwards I feel can be unironically rewatched. 2 is good but still very low budget production wise.

He's 18 on returning from Quor'Toth so 19-ish towards the end of S4 :joker:. Cordelia as a character was only supposed to be around 23 BUT the actress would have been in her early 30's which makes for a really obvious age difference. She was 27 playing a 17 year old in S1 of Buffy .

And to be fair, it wasn't really Cordelia smooshing little Connor, she was possessed by ... something? I want to say by Jasmine but I don't think it is actually supposed to be the same thing? Possessed by the random evil thing that gave birth to Jasmine, maybe. Just using poor Cordy as a flesh sleeve either way.

Not TS sticking up for one of the vilest queasiest couplings ever to exist on TV that is not the slightly even worse idea of Debra Morgan wanting to shag her brother :bored:

My ranking of the Angel seasons.

2 > 3 > 4 > 1 > 5

My issue with Season 1 & 5 of Angel is that most of those Seasons don't really have a plot until the last few episodes of those Seasons.

Tbh I can't really watch the show much longer.

I only really like Giles out of the main four, and I know obvious spoilers about Faith & Wesley so there's not much point in me watching the Show further.

I'm glad that there are other people that still enjoy the Show even though it's been over for nearly two decades (which it deserves credit for that) but it is just not for me.

You can ignore the rant that's coming up if you want to.

My issues with three of the main four characters.

Xander - He is an unbelievable douchebag imo, and the Show rarely ever acknowledges it to the level that they should be acknowledging it imo. To me he has to be one of the most unlikable characters that I have ever seen on TV.

Willow - She's just there. I wish I could say more but that's really it where I got to. Her alternate counterpart was far more interesting.

Buffy - In less OTT dramatic episodes I'm fine with Buffy, but whenever it's anything to do with Buffy & Angel (minus the Angelus stuff) or mundane School stuff I'm like no thanks.

For me I liked the Fantasy, Horror & Action stuff to an extent, but **** me with the Show's Drama and even some of the Comedy.

Hmmmm I would personally put S4 last, but yes, seasons 2 and 3 are definitely the Angel "golden age". Regarding your Buffy criticisms, I think a lot of the fun of a rewatch is definitely nostalgia, so I can understand why a first watch would be hard in 2021. Angel objectively stands the test of time better. Though I wish it hadn't been cancelled prematurely.

In all honesty he gets worse and in hindsight is borderline abusive to his girlfriend/fiancee in later seasons :umm2:.

Giles and Faith are good calls for MVP though. Anthony Stewart Head being easily (easily) the best actor on the show and Faith just being, let's face it, the superior Slayer.
