Used to get in the front seat and put the world to rights with the driver then I realised they normally resented that so now I'd sit in the back and keep myself to myself

I used a taxi earlier (for the first time in ages) because I had to pick up my car and I sat in the front but it was only because I panicked and didn't know what to do

I was gonna say " On the bloody seat !" obviously , but i always take the rear as most taxis my way have clutter on the front seat ! Not that i would wanna sit next to a stranger anyway.

Front if i feel spicy enough

Front seat is way too personal.

I always end up with a Chatty Gabby though who drones on at me and makes eye contact in the rear view mirror.

Always the back and if there is a bunch of us (3 or more) we order a 8 seater it's so awkward sitting in the front

Not a Hackney (ie. private hire)

I only call it a mini cab because they used to say the phrase in ee

I don't use taxis. I've only used a taxi once and an uber twice.

But I'd always choose the back.

Don't use Uber, they treated Laurie Brett appallingly.

Usually the front but the last time I did the driver said "sorry if it smells, my son has been ill all day and was sick exactly where you're sitting"

then I became a counselor because he was going through a divorce and his Dad was an alcoholic.

I might choose my seat more wisely now.

Front next to hubby, my private chauffeur.
Back in the day either, depending on how many of us were out.

In the back, when I used to regularly take taxi cabs...now I'm lazy and just do Uber...

In the back - no preference for left or right, just whichever side the car is facing when it pulls up. I try to sit next to the door I'll be getting out of (to avoid the also awkward edging over the backseats) but don't always remember.

The front is awful.

I do when it's not on a main road :fist: I don't want an oncoming car to take their door off!

And I hate that awkward sitting there waiting for a gap in the traffic.

Always the back on the left.

The perfect taxi driver is somebody who asks where you want to go and then shuts the **** up for the entire journey.

It depends, I never get a taxi on my own (no reason just never need to) BUT...

- If I'm with my mates coming from the pub I have to go in the front

- If it's just me and my Dad coming from the pub I go in the back because there's more room...

I'm 6ft 7 and a bit so I need leg room haha. I know all the taxi drivers here anyway so I'm chatty with them all wherever I perch myself.

Never used taxis even before uber & lyft existed (maybe like once or twice ever)... occasionally do use uber or lyft but it's always with others and I try to get the back though. I'd always take the back if I was alone.

Front almost always. Most of the time the driver doesn't want a chat anyway but if they do I'm happy to talk.

The best taxi driver we ever had was this real London guy when we were over there in June, he did wedding singing as well and he put on one of his CDs and we had a big sing song on the journey, he was hilarious, best taxi ride ever

We had an Uber driver in Memphis and she came out with one of the funniest statements I've ever heard. We were talking about pets (don't know why) and my SIL said she used to have hamsters but they kept breeding and having more and more babies and the Uber driver said, "oh, do they have male and female hamsters? I thought they were just made" :worry:

I never take minicabs or Ubers, only black cabs and only when I'm in London... so you can only sit in the back.

If I am on my own, in the back, if I am with a group generally try to get in the back so don't have to make small talk with driver, if going to the airport or something au famille I rush to the back to Mr C has to sit in the front then I can doze with the kids in the back.

You can't really get that vibe until you've already opened the door though and by then you're committed

Drivers that don't want anyone in the front seat usually have something large sitting on it. That gives off a pretty strong vibe :shrug:
