BAN ON ROWDY BB FANS
May 23 2003
BIG Brother producers have stepped up security for the fourth series following complaints about rowdy fans last year.
Extra police officers have been drafted in to patrol the perimeter of the BB house in a bid to reassure residents who live nearby.
After the show kicks off tonight, fans will only be allowed inside the Elstree Studios compound in Hertfordshire on eviction night.
Larger screens will shield contestants on the reality TV programme from prying eyes.
Housemates on the Channel 4 show will also have to keep the noise down at night as part of an agreement drawn up between producers Endemol and the local council.
A Hertsmere Council spokesman said: "Residents last year were upset by noise and by people shouting outside the house. Hopefully, the extra police presence will solve the problem."
But residents were sceptical about the measures to control fans. One said: "I'm not convinced it will make a difference. These people always find a way to cause trouble."
