View Full Version : What if it was the opposite way around

If it was a theme like man power or something and it was all males going in, Emma not being allowed to present the launch, an all male audience on the main show and bots with a manly house manly music putting down women how would it go down because I know all the women would be kicking off

I do find it all a tad sexist I mean women getting the vote was about being equal in the first place not about women being better than men

I'm not a chauvinist pig and the girls are always my favourite on these shows but it does make me wonder the kick off if it was the other way around

Oh yeah OFCOM would be overfilling with complaints if it was the other way round.

That's the regular "celebrating women" consequences normally. Sometimes it can go to far into the men-shaming zone.
Some parts of this night felt a bit anti-male, but oh well, it's a very thin line...

I guess it was just 'a theme' and just an attempt to make it different...but I get your point.

Jamie89
02-01-2018, 11:14 PM
I don't find the idea of it sexist, it's just celebrating something that happened in history, and it's important to remember, and remember the kinds of things previous generations fought for. There just isn't the equivalent for men, so it wouldn't happen the other way around or be seen in the same way. (That being said I do think it's all just a publicity stunt for ratings though  )

MB.
02-01-2018, 11:14 PM
Yeah why couldn't they have celebrated 100 years of men having the vote????

Time to Sleigh
02-01-2018, 11:15 PM
They have missed the point entirely though the vote was all about women being equal but surely getting there own theme it sets them apart?

I think an all male theme would interesting. Maybe next time?

I don't see it as sexist any more than I see Black History Month as racist.

Time to Sleigh
02-01-2018, 11:19 PM
Yes well maybe the theme isn't sexist but there were a few odd remarks tonight that just instantly made me think if a man was saying that about a woman there would be an uproar. Tends to be the case though

Jamie89
02-01-2018, 11:19 PM
They have missed the point entirely though the vote was all about women being equal but surely getting there own theme it sets them apart?

But the fact they had to fight for that equality is what's being celebrated, that women pushed themselves forward and didn't just accept a lesser status. That's something women did that men have never had to do so in celebrating that part of our history it's going to be women that are celebrated and not men. They haven't been given the theme as a way of saying they are better than men, it's simply a way of celebrating a specific achievement in history.

RichardG
02-01-2018, 11:20 PM
the whole theme is just a facade anyway

nothing is being celebrated

no women will feel empowered by this series of cbb

02-01-2018, 11:23 PM
Let's look at reality tv where women on the batchalor make tits of themselves to get a man....or to become famous if were being real. There's women in this series of cbb however who have been lured in under the pretence of it being about celebrating women being able to vote. The older celebs are going to click on as soon as the males enter and as said in a previous post I predict atleast 3 walkers. I Can see a cbb5 Race row though this time sexism row coming.

Just to add the crowd were all told to cheer giving the housemates a false sense of security.

My Dad turned to me and said, "i feel unwelcome, they are bashing males so much, should we just switch over?". He said it as a joke, but the show did reek with sexism IMO. It has NOTHING to do with the theme itself. It';s great they are doing this 100 year celebration, but the strong, "women are better than men", "women are superior" message is quite bad considering all the new stories about under 30 male suicide being on the up.It kind of makes males feel like ****. I felt excluded from the atmosphere, it was like watching a longer Loose Women episode,.

Now, imagine had a male in his VT said "well, men are superior to women".... how different that will go down.

It's just so hypocritical.

BBUKfan88

I.agree with what your saying. I think they should have at least let men into the audience. I get the theme, but i feel like as the op pointed out the vote was about equality for women not women being better then men. I heard a few sexist comments made during the live show by the women, like how men cant hold an interesting conversation, taking over the world from men, about not wanting to be a man if they come back in another life and vile comments about dangly bit between mens legs and that men are less educated then women. If men said things like that they would get so much stick.

Not in my lifetime. I don't think I know any man who thinks they are better than woman, if you are surrounded by them, you are surrounding yourselves with the wrong people.

It's extremely sexist, that's what I think, but I guess the show won't be affected by it because not a lot of men watch the show... which brings me to the question... does this not mean WOMEN watching this show are to blame? They are the ones booing every good looking female who enter, it aint the men.

So lets not pretend it's males. Female BB viewers eg. the crowd are quite scummy.... who hate any successful women,

BB viewers have been proven to be 82/18 in a recent skew last year towards women, so they largely are the ones booing and voting. No, I don't think men make the "decisions". In all the jobs I have had, I have answered to women, with no male in the 5 jobs have ever made any bad remarks about their boss'.

And having ties to army, I know a lot of women who are on courses to train for RAF, and other military roles.

For me, the comments steered towards men echo Loose Women's. Now, i wonder if i said "women belong in the kitchen", if it was taken as lightly as if a woman said to me "man up, you're a man", again putting that good ole' men are emotionless robots to the forefront.

Like I said, i have nothing against Girl Power... Spice Girls were iconic in the 1990s. But shows like Loose Women, to me, is disgusting and should be taken off air.

I have to say I'm quite surprised you're so offended by something like this show, and of Loose Women. I'd like if off the air too but because it's sh*t.

I also have links to the army. The UK appointed their first female general ever... in 2015. Things are moving but they are moving glacially slowly and it'll be a long, long time before women are actually equal, and that's just in the West. Let's not even get into women's place in the world.

I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid at an all male cast. They don't even need a legit reason to do it, like they did have for the female-only cast. It's not at all sexist. They wanted to do something different, they had some sort of logic behind it, and they done it.

Of course, but I am talking about jobs which BOTH genders are equally handling, office jobs, police, consultances, teachers even doctors.

It's just a fact that some jobs will be catered towards other genders. That tends to be army with males and yes, it will always be like that... but that's also like midwifery, nurses and carers will always be mostly women... sure there are men, but they are in the minority, just like females are in the minority in army. Perhaps in 2040 or something, 50% of women will be in the army and 50% of men will be nurses or carers.

There's no white history month because historically white people were never discriminated against because of the colour of their skin, and dint have to fight for rights.

There is no straight pride day because again, until a certain point in time people who were gay were branded as different or unusual and it's only been this century that they've finally had acceptance across the world so there is a day to remember and celebrate that.

And finally there isn't anybody thinking about the 'poor, hard trodden straight white man' because once again, historically, they haven't had to fight for rights or equality in this world.

It wouldn't work because that's the norm anyway. Every year is Year of the Man.

Nothing about a female focused show should be offensive to men, it's only the little men that are used to everything revolving around them and women with internalised sexism that are like 'an all female launch to celebrate the anniversary of the implementation women's right to vote? HOW DARE THEY?!'

Robodog
03-01-2018, 01:18 PM
Men would be embarassed to have an all male launch, an all male audience, celebrating all things 'male'

If would be like, so cheesy and shallow

Can you imagine a group of guys all whooping and shouting, celebrating 'boy power'?

(cringe)

Sure, men enjoy each others company to a point, but they would soon get very bored of an all-male household.

The most exciting thing for men would be when the women arrived.

Men love women, just as women love men. Makes the world go round.

A single-gender experiment like this can only go so far before it runs out of steam.

BB knows this too of course, which is why the men are going in after only 4 days.

Any longer and the energy, the interest and the ratings would drop.

Seriously thought these things were pretty obvious. Get educated.

Excuse me...white men have fought and sacrificed themselves in 2 world wars in a fight for rights and equality....the rest though...well said.

What about Ginger kids day, kids with glasses, people with a lisp day ? the list could go on and on,but it doesn't because those people just get on with it and don't feel sorry for themselves

So its unacceptable to call a kid ginger but to call a trans-gendered person by the wrong pronoun is fair game?

Oh :joker: I was already pretty riled, my sarcasm filter disappears when I'm angry :joker:

Haha man my post was pure sarcasm, I’m with you on everything you said. I know how it gets when you get riled up having to explain basic concepts and human decency to idiots

Just to pick up on this, yes it is awful that suicides in men are on the rise, but suicide attempts are pretty much 50/50. Just men chose more violent methods so are successful more often :( Women tend to go with pills and such that can be sorted if found in time. where men will shoot themselves or something...where there is no chance of saving really.

As for the OP, I wouldn't mind an all male launch. Honestly most of my faves tend to be men anyway. They couldn't really do it as 'X years of men having X' though as men have had it all for ever
