Kiernan Shipka will star in Netflix’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch series.

The news was confirmed on Archie Comics’ official site today, accompanied by a tweet from Archie Comics CCO and Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, including a picture of Shipka with an Archie comic.

“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list,” Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement. “This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”

A Sabrina the Teenage witch show was first announced last year as a companion series to The CW's Riverdale, which has made frequent references to Sabrina's hometown of Greendale. Last month, Netflix picked up the show for two 10-episode seasons with Aguirre-Sacasa as executive producer.

The currently untitled series is based on the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina graphic novel and will have a darker horror tone. It's worth noting that while Aguirre-Sacasa will be executive producing, it has not been explicitly stated if this series will be a part of the Riverdale universe following Netflix's involvement with the show, though Riverdale has made several Sabrina references thus far in season two.

Shipka was previously seen in Mad Men, where she played Sally Draper, the daughter of protagonist Don Draper, as well as the FX series Feud.

I'm now hoping that it's him but they don't even bother with CGI. He just does this. And everyone acts like he's obviously a cat. Best show on Netflix.

Just finished it and it's pretty good, the finale was exciting and I liked more about the show than I disliked.

Ironically though Sabrina is the most irritating character but I quite like a lead who you sometimes struggle to like.

Season 2 is looking good, I really enjoyed the first season but I think the second will be better as the problem with the first season was that it ended just as it was about to take off.

Like Riverdale, Sabrina is anachronistic, it's set in modern day but the style is from the 60's while Riverdale has a 50's aesthetic.

Bates Motel was the same. Set in modern day but the costume design and cars etc were throwback to the 60s.
