View Full Version : why are people so shaken up by the thought of a showmance?

You put a few single good looking people together in any environment, let alone big brother, something is bound to happen. its human nature, (imo, its basically what we're put on earth to do)
It's not the hm's fault that the producers choose to focus so heavily on them. and why does there always have to be an ulterior motive? Flirting and all that is fun?

Showmances don't bother me as such. Its the producers focusing on them so damn much. Once there is a showmance, the rest of the storylines go out of the window

I think they've gotten better with it though like its never been as bad as john james and josy and the last few showmance's have been kind of entertaining.

Cos it’s so predictable

Because it becomes the whole storyline...the whole focus is on the showmance and we get to see so little of the others.
a showmance by definition is fake and entirely for camera time. How could that possibly be interesting

So are arguments, conversation, them eating dinner, big brother saying "this is big brother"....

Because possibly, for me anyway, people get sick of false showmances pushed for near every series, then taking up the majority of the highlights.
If something really is genuine, fair enough, near all are not remotely genuine.
Why would anyone welcome that.

They're just boring. The only tolerable showmance was in BBAus, Tim's year, and that's because the couple was so freakin adorable.

It's just not very interesting to watch. Don't think I've ever enjoyed a showmance on Big Brother apart from Sarah and Chad. If Court and Andrew got together I would be HERE for it though!
I just find it tedious to watch tbh

Because out of the 50-100 BB romances only 3 or 4 have actually lasted and it's a cheap media gimmick.
Even the ones that are supposedly entertaining on here - Lee and Casey, Stephanie and Jeremy, Sarah and Chad - bored me to tears.

Because if we wanted to see a showmance we would watch love island.

What Vicky said basically.
The housemates know it'll get them screentime so I rarely buy it and the edit literally focuses on boring fumbles under the bedding and hand holding when realistically most viewers want to see friendships or confrontation more.

how many relationships on the outside world last? A bit unfair to hold the BB ones to such a high standard

Honestly, the only good showmances were Michelle & Stu and Chantelle & Preston.
The rest were either tedious or odious.

Back then there wasn't love island. Like I get your point, but I think, as others have stated above, when there is a showmance in BB it gets all the air time. Now there are shows like love island which are catered for people who do want to see the showmance as its the focus of the show.
I think its fair to say people who watch big brother want to see other things and would not be so bothered by them if they didn't take up so much air time.

Yeah, that's the one thing I never really ~get~ about the showmance detractors - the cynicism. I don't love showmances, but that doesn't mean I think the majority of them are fake. I think it's perfectly possible and in fact quite likely that you could get to like someone a lot in a short space of time. Where else do you first meet someone by spending 24 hours a day living with them? It usually takes weeks, months and years because dates and whatnot are spread over a longer period of time. So I do think most showmances that begin in the house are genuine, whether or not they can work in the real world is another question altogether however.
For me, showmances are only worthwhile if they act as a vehicle to entertaining content. If your relationship is a mess and/or is affecting the rest of the house, I'm game (see: Steverly, Chiggy, Steph and Jeremy etc). If nothing's happening, I'm not interested (see: Kris and Sophie, Scotty and Megan etc).

I very much agree with this. If it's entertaining then yay I don't care if it's a showmance but it's when the focus lands on tedious relationships such as Bianca and Jamie it becomes a chore to watch

Like others have said I just find them tedious to watch.
I'll admit I'm normally cynical about them too when yeah you have a point that stuff like that is likely to happen naturally and I've been wrong in the past (Grace & Mikey for example), but mostly it's just that I don't find them very interesting.

If Ashley or Genuwine were people we didn't like we would be hating their showmance, personally I find it a bit boring whoever it is and BB cant get enough of it.for me it kinda ruins peoples chances as their own personalities get lost in the romance.

what romance, i kinda feel sad for Ginuwine how he lost both his parents to suicide
and also him being unlucky in his lovelife :(
i'm for now glad that Ashley just wants to have a good time in the house with him, if it were daniel the creep i would be very disappointed in ashley i must admit

The guy has 9 kids to an unspecified number of women something tells me if he's unlucky in love it's probably down to him.

he has been married like 5 times ;), so he's made the wrong choices
well i like Ashley for still showing the respect for listening to his story, and also keeping India calm
and about Rachel, well i saw her staring at both Ginuwine and Ashley, and her being more his age i can see her liking him

I've think we've seen too many showmances in the past and people are tired of the show focusing on fake romance.

I don't have an issue with them pairing up, as you say if you put age similar, good looking people together some of them will get off.
It's just focussing on it that bugs me. If it was like a subplot to everything else it wouldn't bother me.
