I don't think they are close age-wise. I would guess he's in his 30s and she is in her 50s? It is an odd friendship but, from what he said about her in the diary room, it is genuine and they have become very close. I hope we see more of it.

I think there is more depth to Daniel than people give him credit for - we have definitely seen different layers to his personality.
