The attitude towards someone like Ann is "She can have her view because she's old and she'll be dead soon so it doesn't matter"
It's the rest of us who have something to fear over the next 25 years.
I've quite liked Ann in there but I thought it was mean spirited to call out Emma's interviewing ability and try and show her up like that. It's not a combative political interview, it's supposed to be a friendly chat about her time in the house, there was no need for her to be so defensive

She’s allowed to have a view that isn’t fashionable but people aren’t allowed to act in any certain way around her which she deems to be offensive (which is literally anything)

Emma was asking the same question over and over again though in slightly varying ways. Was slightly painful to watch her try her hardest to get Ann to say Shane had changed Anns views when obviously he did not

emma pushed too much and got what she deservedYeah I agree with this tbf, it was obvious what Ann's answer to the question was, she answered it clearly so there was no need to carry on with it.
I don't think she was actually talking about Ann changing her views though, it was more about whether or not she'd be willing to be more open minded, which is possible for anyone however strongly considered their views are.

The "bollox" question drew attention to Ann's double standards re. swearing. It's ok when her bezzy mate does it, but not others.
Well done Emma.
Emma was brilliant with Ann. That’s not a lot of people Emma would allow to speak to her like that, as we’ve seen with the likes of Helen Wood, Stephen Bear and Winston McKenzie. She’s got a bloody gob on her!

She explained it was about context which was a fair reply
I didn't really get why Emma laboured the point that Ann lives alone, she seemed to be intimating that there was something wrong with that and that Ann must be lonely which I thought was a bit odd, I doubt she would have laboured that point with any other older housemate, a lot of people both male and female will find themselves on their own at Ann's age either through divorce, losing a partner or just because they were never interested in having a partner in the first place, I thought it was okay to be asexual or to choose how you live these days

Emma basically asked her if the conversations in the house has made her reflect, she gave quite a firm no but Emma continued to push the question anyway, and then Ann said something like 'you can keep asking me the same question but you'll get the same answer' and Emma seemed a bit awkward about it.

Actually what Ann said was right, it was the context of it as it was so random it WAS funny,no one expected it, but the constant swearing used by the 'boys' is bloody annoying and some swearing is said in an aggressive way as was Andrews when he called Ann a twunt,I have to say Bollox is my favourite swear word and usually makes me laugh, there were other things Emma could have spoken about imo.
the fact that they analyzed a months worth of footage in the house and the only thing they could find was that she laughed once when someone said bollocks says it all

I'm usually a big fan of Emma, but I was really disappointed with her last night and her whole approach to Ann. Yes, Emma, Ann lives alone. No, her cats are dead now... do you have ANY researchers on the show at all? Emma's approach was not only kind of spiteful but also surprisingly patronising... she had that face on that some people usually use when they're dealing with someone with special needs.
Equality, eh?

That's funny to you? After I've read your posts full of how we should all be accepting?
THIS is what spoilt CBB for me.
..yeah of course, she’s allowed her views which aren’t perhaps thought of as ‘fashionable’ but I think for me personally, views arent something that would follow a fashion/trend anyway...our views are things we carry through life and they can change, they’re not a fixed or a rigid thing...they’re changeable with our experiences etc, as well as the experiences of others we may know..and those things touch our lives as well, which then can often make us re-assess our views...as Jamie said, the indication I got from Ann in the house and then with her interview is that her views are formed, all boxed up and that she’s not open to anything that would go against those views, those views are all done and dusted.. so has basically stopped absorbing and learning/staying open and interested with some areas...I think that’s why Emma pushed it a bit and repeated..because what (..it felt to me..)...of the things she had ‘learned’ in the house and with the experience of being with so many different characters etc...were things like, oh I’ve had to get used to swearing and that house needed a swear
are box..or I become a Spice Girl, or they can all become a little rowdy at time...anyways, I can’t recall the specifics but ..there was no, well I lived with a transsexual, a gay drag queen, a lesbian, a model ...which I think Jess is but I’m not sure...and I learned about that 14yr old boy from Shane J and I hadn’t thought of some views from that perspective before...I just think Emma persisted and repeated because that’s maybe more how she was hoping the interview would be...

To be fair to Ann, what she actually said was that her views had been formed over years and that they were unlikely to be changed by a couple of conversations. I thought she made herself very clear, and most of us would respond the same if we had a detailed knowledge on a particular topic.

That's ten times worse in my book. If she was a bigot just because of her take on religious teaching, that's one thing, but if she reasoned and arrived at such antiquated opinions, well that says it all about her. Narrow-minded bigot.
Now on the way back to Dartmoor to roam as one of Britain's remaining dinosaurs.

Still not sure how I'm not accepting or how I've provided an example of what has ruined the series for you. Honestly Livia I think you've just lept on an opportunity to try and paint me as a hypocrite, since I've been vocal on the 'acceptance' side of things this series and maybe that would help prove whatever point it is you're trying to make (less vagueness would help on that front), so yes I'm fine with this conversation ending if you're not happy to explain what it is you meant.

...thing is though, sometimes it can only take one conversation or one small thing even, to set those thoughts in motion and feel hmmm....those undiscovered thoughts that can create reassessments in our views...I agree, that if ‘years’ were an essential for a ‘forming’ to be fixed, then that would obviously be something to be considered as well...but that time is really not an essential at all.../...for me, either in the house or in her interview, with some beliefs and some views..Ann hasn’t given any indication of any openness to her ‘forming’...any possible changeability about it...

Why do you think that is?
Reasoned discussions may one day have an impact.
Banging it into ones head with a sledgehammer will have the opposite
Trying to make someone say something so they become vilified won't change them.
Ganging up on them won't change them
Huddling in groups badmouthing them won't change them.

Yes, I picked up on this too actually. I had assumed that her views were as they were mainly for religious reasons, but clearly not if they have been shaped over her years rather than being...fixed by religion. If I have put that right.
Emmas interviewing was all over the place I reckon last night. Especially with both Ann and Shane. Trying to force Ann into saying stuff (and getting shut down...and apparently Ann is wrong for that?!) and bringing up her dead cats..and then making Shanes interview entirely about ****ing Andrew when there were so many interesting things she could have asked..well it was a bit of a car crash tbh. I know she probably doesn't actually write the interviews, but whoever does needs to be sacked. It was dreadful.

I think though that even the staunchly religious, particularly if they are intelligent are allowed to doubt or question. We can't know without asking her but it's possible she felt at odds with some of the church teachings and spent many years internalising before acceptance.

What gets me is that Ann religious views are held by millions in many many countries.
Her voting history was not done alone but alongside her MP colleagues
But because she signed up for a low rent reality show, it becomes all her fault.

Thank you for bringing it up! I didn't see the thread. We didn't get too many congrats messages, let alone congrats threads, but a flurry of critical threads, so this one must have been pushed to the second page.
Belated thank you and apologies!

You know I wrote a post yesterday congratulating Shane fans. No responses on that thread.
I have to say I find the nastiness, misogyny and the humour about what is rather a sad old age, alone, dead pets really disappointing on this thread. Can you take that somewhere else please?
My apologies jaxie.
It was really good of you to make that thread.
I saw it when I came back on tonight and have posted on it.
As for this thread, of course Ann is entitled to her views.
I never likely will agree with her but she does get my interest.
I've heard her speak, I'd go and listen to her again.
In the house I have always stated she was compulsive viewing.
Absolutely for sure this series would have been poorer without her in it.
She very nearly won and had she, I'd have been one of the first to congratulate her supporters for their efforts to bring that about.
Just as you have for Shane J.
Which is really good of you.

Yet she's the scapegoat I Know it's ridiculous :bored: . Plus there's other religions with similar and even more extreme views but that goes ignored .
