What struck me about this story most was how sinister the masked 'protesters' looked. And I thought the MP was quite brave for trying to talk to them. If you are going to protest someone's politics you should own it by showing your face.

I'm no fan of Rees-Mogg, but the behaviour of those "protestors" was sickening. I thought universities were all touchy-feely-all-encompassing now? With stewards and safe places to make sure no snowflakes melt. I'd be interested to know why they thought it necessary to cover their faces, and whether this is allowed on campus? The university states that they were not students. How do they know that? The police are looking into it to see if a crime has been committed. The uni say they were not students so they were trespassing, clearly.

I like some of the comments below the article, saying that they do not support his politics, but are appalled at the treatment of Rees-Mogg.

Thought he was pretty brave to try and engage them

Reece Mogg is rancidity right wing. When a back bencher becomes famous through anti abortion and anti gay marriage, he's going to provoke strong reactions from both the Left and the Right.

Anyway, it was a mere scuffle that appeared staged. "Reece Mogg steps forward to give the peasants a good thrashing". :fist:

And those aggressive ‘mere scufflers’ were clearly rancidly left wing. Mogg has as much right to his opinions as they do without being forced to feel threatened by such hypocritical thugs.

Lets’s justify that though if those thugs happen to share the same political leanings. :fist:

These people engaging in political violence are only following the wishes of their leaders.

Well Jacob Rees-Mogg's views are well known.

I commend his own efforts in even trying to talk with the protesters.
No matter who they are, where they're from.
They were in the wrong.

We keep hearing Politicians are too distant and allow themselves to be shut away from ordinary people.

When they do open up and present themselves as Rees-Mogg did here.
They should not be subjected to this nonsense.

So you condone that? Because you think he's rancid? Just wow.

Did I use the words 'condone' I'm pretty sure I didn't. What I said was, the man is a vile MP with some pretty appalling views and you can't have rancid views like that without expecting a reaction.

I neither like or dislike the reaction. I don't even believe it was real.

If you were unbiased you would dislike the reaction and have no problem saying so.

I have no doubt you would be quick to condemn any such reaction from someone who thought Corbyn had some pretty appaulling views - and many do.

Who said I was unbiased?!? FFS stop second guessing me. Just because I'm biased against a person doesn't mean I think they deserve what they get.

This would suggest that right wing people are all also anti abortion and anti gay marriage. Which is an odd thing to suggest. Protestors could have easily been a modern right wing person who was ashamed that their views getgrouped together with this blokes.

He isn’t perfect - no-one in politics is - but I would feel a lot safer in many ways with Mogg at the helm than Corbyn. He handled it well and I don’t buy it was some kind of publicity stunt either. That is more Corbyn’s style. :hehe:

Unis really are going downhill. With all the 'safe space' and no platforming and then behaviour like this...its just ridiculous. Uni is meant to be a place you go to (ontop of study) learn about life and listen to different viewpoints than your own.

I cannot stand Rees-Mogg, but there is no way to behave in this way and its certainly not 'progressive' or 'liberal' in any way.

This topic made me learn that Antifa are actually a real thing, and over here too. I didn't know that and so am posting in here as this is the thread that led me down the rabbit hole to find out  I thought they were just American violent nutters. But it seems we have our own too.

It's the covered faces I found most disturbing in the original post clip. If you have no intention to do harm, why would you cover your face. The cover up is sinister and implies, at least to me that you are willing to hurt someone and don't want to be identified.

Yeah, its quite clear they are just thugs. But try to make out they are not and that they are on the good side or something. I dont care which side someone is on, violence is not the answer. They clearly go out planning violence.

A little tip to anyone else deciding to stage something like this.....dont have the female protestor repeatedly shout out "he hit me, he hit a girl in the face"...it kind of makes you and your supporters look bad, when you are trying to make yourselves look good..silly jacob:nono:

Really, you see what you want to see as usual - but they weren't though - they were Corbynistas.
