Would you take that to mean

This Sunday coming or the one after that

ie a week on Sunday

yeah

If i wanted them this sunday I would just say "come to my house this Sunday" but i will use "next Sunday" if i wanted them next week.

The week after

Though if they said this on a Monday I'd probably ask for clarification, idk why

Oh yes how confusing is it ! I always have to check with the person which they mean. Although they should say this Sunday if its this week.

If you are catching the next bus you dont mean the one after the next one you mean the next one

or when the butcher shouts NEXT he means the next in turn not the one after?

It depends. If it was during the week then I'd probably assume it was the next Sunday available (so that weekend) but if it was anSaturday then I'd ask if they meant the next day or he One after.

if the week after was meant, it would be a week on sunday :smug:

Tozzie

I'd just say "do you mean this coming sunday or next"?

Natalie.

A week Sunday

MTVN

For me the 'next' indicates next week so it'd be a week Sunday. But if it was Wednesday and someone asked if I could do something 'next Tuesday' I would probably assume they meant the Tuesday in six days time next week not the one in thirteen days time

If they used the word 'next' then I'd assume it was the one after the first one coming up

if someone said, lets get on the next bus, would you let the next one pass by and get on the one after or would you get on the one that arrives soonest

"The next..." and "next..." don't have the same meaning, though.

depends on the time of week you ask
if it's early in the week yeah sure this sunday
when it's wednesday i'd ask what you'd meant, this sunday or the sunday after
if you ask me later on in the week you won't see me this sunday you'll see me next sunday, the week after this sunday.

JerseyWins

The week after but if it's early in the week I'd question it but still probably assume it's the week after if I didn't bother asking.

Sunday after this one otherwise I'd expect them to say just come to my house on Sunday

This Sunday...because it is the next Sunday...

I'd assume "the Sunday after the one coming up", because if it was the Sunday coming up, one would just say "Sunday".

But I would expect next Sunday to be the one after this Sunday otherwise they would say this Sunday or just Sunday
