Because being well known isn't a guarantee that you are actually any good, look at Ed Sheeran and how all the basic people flock to him despite being able to find someone just as good or better busking on any street corner anywhere.

But LM shouldn't be excluded for the sake of being diverse as they've had multiple Top 10's this year and re released their most successful album.

Repeating your point, it's for best group. It shouldn't matter if they're pop, rock, alternative, indie, the list continues. Groups should be rewarded for their work and not because they're not a pop act.
