All shops dealing in 'peacocking' and everything associated with it will thrive and then fashion will change and there will be nothing left ! Ok maybe Evans
I'm still waiting for JC Penney and Sears to go.

Who knows. What we do know is Wickes, Tesco, ASDA and B&Q have announced some fairly hefty reductions in shop size and store closures. I recently read a prediction that estimated over 150 large to medium-sized retailers would be going into administration before the years out.

Yes to reduce debt but we remain open for now :idc:
Usually get an inkling for this when we are told to remove certain gift cards from sale. We were told last week to remove Claire's Accessories and Mothercare from sale and remember we were told to remove New Look a couple of weeks before they announced closures

One of the stores in your local area.
And the dine in meal deals where you get three courses and a bottle of wine for a tenner
That said I don't know whether the struggle facing those chain restaurants is the same as the one facing high street retailers

What I don't get is some store are trying to save them from closing by paying cheaper rent why not pay cheaper rent in the first place
What I don't get is some store are trying to save them from closing by paying cheaper rent why not pay cheaper rent in the first place
Probably because there was more competition for the premises originally and more money was being spent on the high street so landlords could charge more rent. They also probably hope that landlords could cut them some slack if they've been renting the property for years and years

....I guess if people are shopping online and not so much going to shops...that would be the time they would have something to eat also../...have lunch etc while they shop is what many have tended to do, I think...but not s9 much now..?...
...the only one I’ve been to of those is Jamie’s Italian...and I haven’t been for a long time, a few years...but the first time I went, it was a struggle to get a table it was so popular and busy...the last time I was there, it was very quiet...with chain restaurants..well with many restaurants really...there is just so much competition of new ones opening and becoming ‘the current vogue’...and on and on...so they just don’t seem to sustain their popularity with people trying new places which are constantly opening...anyway, sad though...

I think the high Street as we know it is very swiftly becoming a thing of the past. Only those stores with a strong online presence are going to survive. But even those may not all survive as fixtures in every town.
I'll never forget you Woolworths!

I think that's pretty much it, Ammi. The "high street" is dying, fewer and fewer people going there to shop, therefore reduced footfall for food outlets etc.

I think the novelty for celebrity chef restaurants has worn off as well, I went to a Jamie O restaurant once, the food was over priced and not anything special I could have got better in my local italian, the other one who has jumped on the bandwagon lately is James Martin he has an outlet at Stansted airport which sells over priced pre packaged sandwiches, I would rather go to Pret

Jamie's Italia is going under because charging £20 for a burger is unsustainable, no matter whose name it on it.

I agree about Jamie Oliver restaurants. A 20 quid burger with JO's hallmark stick through it isn't impressive. I once got something called 'Happy Chicken' at his Portsmouth restaurant and it was raw in the middle :(
