Let's be real tho they've not just made a fully fledged Smash game less than 4 years after the last instalment ESPECIALLY when they released the last DLC just over 2 years ago so chances are Link's BOTW costume is just indicative that they're updating/releasing new costumes
we at least know there's a new fighter (fighters? Ice Climbers were finished and working for the Wii U but had to be cut because of the 3DS not being able to handle 4 Ice Climbers) so at least there's some incentive to buy it ig
If it is (which it's gonna be) a Sm4sh port I hope they release an adventure mode. Even if it's just nonsensical, like Melee's was. But I want to see Pikachu and Bayonetta pair up and destroy the **** out of Midgar as Ridley ****s **** up Subspace Emissary style :dance:

I think it may be a Wii U port. On the official youtube page they posted the video with the title "Super Smash Bros. is coming to Nintendo Switch". They used this wording " ____ is coming to Nintendo Switch" for other ports as well, but never a new game

It'll be an upgraded version of Smash 4 I expect, with the Squidlings and a few more characters added to it.

Evidence for this being a brand new game:
Development of Sm4sh took 2 years. It's been over 2 years since the release of the last DLC, and if we assume that production began just after the final DLC (hell it could've started production while they were still making Sm4sh DLC) it's not unreasonable to believe they've made an entirely new game within these 2 years
The logo is different and a placeholder. Seems like a lot of effort to just finish with "lol it's a port"
HAL Laboratory, who didn't help with production of Sm4sh is credited - Namco Bandai, who helped make Sm4sh, is not
The main website is essentially empty, with a brand new logo and Inklings trailer - there's no more SSB4 information
Link is in his BOTW costume - why would they change his model/costume for a port?
Evidence for this being a port:
I honestly think there's none but I'm shocked it's likely to be a brand new game given how well definitive edition of Sm4sh + additional characters would print money and would be a much easier job
I honestly think I was more hyped for Pichu and Daisy than I was for Ridley :dance:

these are some noteworthy videos (bearing in mind there are 20 second gameplay trailers for every character + pictures, around a 20 minute video focussing on the moveset changes (for which there's been quite a bit, Final Smashes have been overhauled as well), new techniques, the stages, and assist trophies, oh and of course there's gameplay of people playing it)

There's a heavy emphasis on 'Spirits' - they're optional 'add-ons' to characters, if you like. These are the spirits of gaming characters, such as Dixie Kong. A spirit can improve the power/speed/defence or have a bonus effect (for example, makes the player metal) and these spirits can be levelled up and you can attach them to the playable characters so they get that benefit. It's hard to explain
There's classic mode, which is great this time around because each character has a unique theme to them. Also boss battles!

Welcomeee. There's no doubt some modes I missed, but this game definitely has the best single player experience out of all the Smash Bros games

It always has been since day 1, but they only launched a proper paid subscription in September. Basically, you could play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and other online multiplayer games for free until late September. Then Nintendo started the ever so controversial Nintendo online service. So yeah, you gotta pay £20 ayear to play online

Unlocking the characters is rapidly losing it's charm for me, I just want to play at Bayonetta and Richter at this point and they are nowhere to be seen yet. Thank god I've already unlocked Zelda and Pit otherwise I'd have no favourites to play.
I'm unironically maining Pichu and I can't wait to play as Isabelle. I'm gonna try and get into Lucas since Mother 3 is my favourite game and even though I liked him in Brawl, I couldn't get into him in 4.
I'm really hoping Bayo is nerved because I would LOVE to play her without the guilt
I'm probably gonna carry over my mains Mewtwo and Mario (although I want to get out of the habit of picking Mario bc there's so many good characters). I'm also gonna try and pick up Daisy, despite never playing Peach in my life
I'll give all the newcomers a go but sadly none of them really interest me </3 I like playing as my favourite characters, which means I don't wanna play as characters from games I've never played. Splatoon may be an exception though and I'll probably try Inkling out

Speaking of which; this is the first Smash I've played since Melee, is it just me or is getting back onto the level after falling off MUCH harder in general?
Or is it just that I ended up exclusively playing as Marth, and will still be OK at it with Marth?
Because currently, if I go off the edge, 9 times out of 10 I'm screwed :umm2:
That said, I've also only played handheld so far, I have a GC controller adapter for when I play docked and it might just be the controls. The tiny Switch buttons are killing me.

In Mario games, I ALWAYS play as Luigi, and I really don't like playing as Mario (although it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game obviously). However, in Smash, I never play Luigi and I mained Mario for Sm4sh
I love Bayonetta 1 and 2 but I didn't play her in Sm4sh because she felt so cheap, and in Ultimate I barely play her but she seems a bit nerfed
Also I love Duck Hunt Duo and Bowser Jr but objectively their characters are bad </3 so I don't play them seriously, sadly
`I think a lot of people agree Lucina is better than Marth but Marth deals the most damage from the tip of his sword, unlike Lucina. Try playing Marth while aiming to hit with the tip of his sword, you may notice a difference

Its not so much damage that makes the difference, Lucina just seems to play more smoothly? I can play a round (if I'm on form) and barely get hit, she seems to dodge better, air dodge better, and I think can hit a quick smash faster on landing? I might be imagining it but I just seem to be able to get in attacks with Lucina where in the exact same situation with Marth, I'm getting countered or blocked.

Bayonetta's not weak, she's just not god tier anymore.
She's pretty much on par with everyone else which feels incredibly weak compared to Smash 4 but that doesn't make her weak, it makes her normal. She's gonna end up around the middle of the tiers when people start overrating her nerfs.
I've heard Lucina is meant to be good this time but it's apparently Chrom that excels when it comes to the FE characters.

I’ve cleared the map (all the fog has gone) but there’s still quite a few spirits i can’t get because i just can’t win the fights :bawling: mainly 3*/4* ones bc their team power is like 13,000 and my max power including support spirits is like 10,000

Have you noticed that the AI can't seem to play Chrom though? I haven't played as him at all really, but it looks to me like he's slightly bugged, he keeps doing what looks to me like a down-b attack (a drop attack) instead of an up-b every time I knock him off an edge :think:. Maybe it's just my copy :joker:. But literally every fight against him involves knocking him off the edge once or twice, and him just diving headlong into the void. Poor fellow.

Ahh I've played him now, his up-B ends in a "ground pound" style attack and the AI doesn't seem to account for it and tries to use it like a normal up-B (resulting in suicide).
I also can't play as him for **** for the same reason. And also because he's slightly too fast for me. I don't has the skillz. Lucina seems to be in my "goldilocks zone" where she's faster than a lot of characters but not so fast that I lose control and make mistakes.

:omgno: kids back at school so I'm getting to play docked with a GameCube controller for the first time. Game changer. I need to find a way to mod the triggers to be press rather than pull because its just not sitting right... But the button layout and the hexagonal housing for the analogue sticks makes it so much more precise than the sloppy switch controls.

I've had it for jat over a week and I think I have almost all the characters already oops :joker: I used to main Fox/Falco but now I'm finding myself most successful with Donkey Kong, King K Rool, Bowser, Ike, pretty much anybody heavy and slow???

Three Houses is an amazing game though, I'd eagerly recommend it. If it wasn't for RE2, it would have been my game of the year.

I mean if the Moveset is completely different I don't mind too much but I'd rather see someone else from Sonic/Starfox/F-Zero
Crash/Spyro/Rayman would be amazing but probably unrealistic.

don't get me wrong i do like fire emblem and i use some of their characters a lot but i feel there's enough of them at the moment.I really wanted something new or someone from final fantasy since there's only cloud.
I still need to get Three Houses.
