Just as a side note, what was the last thing, or even first for that matter, Nicola McLean presented?

I'll bring my post from the Corrie thread.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/5825185/nicola-mclean-clashes-with-corries-christopher-harper-over-soaps-increasingly-dark-storylines/

This bitch will do do ANYTHING for an appearance fee. Nicola McLean discussing suitable television? Really?

If I were (for a moment) to take her "concerns" seriously...

I'd tell her to actually parent her child. Soaps have always had adult themes, unsuitable for 7 year olds. You can control what a 7 year old watches on TV.

That said. Kids are mollycoddled far too much and I was watching (and enjoying) the Saskia Duncan murder storyline in EastEnders when I was 9 so... :hmph: Kids can deal with more mature things better than bloody some grown ups.

The real McLean doesn't stay hidden for long. :idc:

Personally I wouldn’t take much notice of anything she has to say!

The poor love. She turned to Chris and still had one eye on Kate Garraway.

TV presenter ? The only thing she'll ever be is a 'Nicola' presenter picking up a few quid for a few moments on various tv shows.

Presenter 'my arse' she always spouts rubbish .

Who died and made her mother Tereasa ? If she is worried about her kids being badly influenced she better sweep her own doorstep before she starts trying to tell others what they should do.

Every time Kate Oates spoke I kept expecting to hear Nicola shouting "Vile" in the background or "Don't you come to her!" when she started on Kate Garraway.

I really can't abide the woman but for once I agree with her. Coronation is horridly morbid and miserable these days and totally lost it's humour. The David Platt rape storyline made me feel really uncomfortable and I switched off. So soon after the paedophile storyline too that was depressing. Bring back Corrie of old I say.

Not the point really. Nicola's whole argument was about it being inappropriate for her 7 year old. Simple answer: Her 7 year old shouldn't be watching anyway. Soaps have told murder and abuse plots for decades. Time for her and all those like her to take responsibility for what they watch on television, and not expect television to parent their children for them.

I remember seeing Tracy Barlow get sent down when I was 7 and I LOVED IT! All seven year olds should enjoy Corrie. They should do a Corrie spin-off for kids so McLean's kids can wander the cobbles

..it’s a tricky one really...I do understand Nicola’s concerns...but ‘exposure’ is not always preventable so easily as moving a time slot to a later time...that later time would still leave for exposure to many 12yr olds, so older siblings...of which her 7yr old has, an older sibling...who also has access to social media, where these storylines are often discussed...that’s the thing, we can ‘police’ our own children in what they view...but we have no control of policing our children’s peers...so exposure is often an inevitable thing, regardless of time slots ..

...she will know what her children’s ‘limitations and levels’ are in terms of their understandings etc ...there are options...(...which I’m sure her parenting adopts..)...of watching these things with her child, which allows her to ‘monitor’ any possible distress and discuss at the time...crikey, I’ve completely lost my train of thought so I’ll leave it there - Marsh’s fault, he’s not taking responsibility for me and monitoring me like he should be...)...anyways, yeah...exposure isn’t always through directly watching...it can be through ‘7yr old conversations’ also...and there are many ‘exposure’ things which can create that...which are beyond a direct parental control....

...she’s obviously a great parent to have these concerns....

...back in the day when I was a child...the Coronation Street music was always bedtime.....so if I hear it now, it makes me feel sleepy because of the association...it was always considered ‘adult’ ...for me anyway...but then, if a child didn’t watch it, wasn’t allowed to...there wasn’t the exposure from the many other sources that there is in the here and now...so that was just that of that really....
