The best episode so far although it blows my previous thoughts that the Apocalypse is a hoax out of the water. Time travel is how they'll get back to present day, it seems.

Everyone bar Micheal being killed off was a surprise, I'm hoping they all stay dead tbh bar Venebles, I quite liked her. It does have the effect of making everything that happened in the first two episodes a complete waste of time though. I assume that Coco, Mallory and Adina's bodies will be possessed by Misty, Zoe and Queenie respectively given Madison's line to Mallory.

I too thought that Micheal had programmed Kathy Bates to be some sort of commando version of Constance tbh.

I'm wondering where it's going to go next since I don't think they'll be time travelling until the later half of the season so I think we'll have at least one more episode at the bunker. I suppose the next episode will be exposition heavy in explaining where the witches have been and why Madison and Myrtle are back (and what happened to the coven etc) I've got a feeling Tate will probably appear in the next episode since his Leatherman's guise is still kicking about. I think he'll come up against the witches tbh.

Well originally she was meant to have an albino son (he was in the very first promo pics and actually in a couple of scenes in the pilot that were cut) but clearly they scrapped that and gave her a blind daughter

I think Sarah did a great job at directing this episode, the scene with Moira and her mother was shot beautifully (if not pointless)

And that brings me onto the negatives of this episode. It basically was just for the fangirls of Murder House and was completely unnecessary. I hate nothing more than TV shows with episodes that have characters retelling events than events actually happening themselves and that was basically this entire episode. It also doesn't help that I completely hate the character of Michael (not just because he is evil, I actually think the character has no depth and the actor is extremely annoying and has stupid hair). That being said, it was nice to have the actress who played Pepper having a random appearance.

But did they completely gloss over the fact that there was no apocalypse when Madison and the warlock guy bought the Murder House? Unless they time travelled but I completely missed that and if they did time travel couldn't they just stop the apocalypse in the first place? Idk but seems kind of messy :worry:

I'm enjoying the series but I'm not a fan of the messy timeline right now, if this series is about the Apocalypse, why are we currently stuck in the past? I don't like it, and as much as it was nice to see Lange back in the series, the episode was pointless and just an excuse for Murphy to have a Murder House reunion with no real meaning or value to the rest of the series.

Looks like we're going back to Murder House as the crew were at the house yesterday - with Lange on set.

It was the best episode so far but it had issues.

I thought the Constance and Vivian scenes were pretty strong but Ben's backstory with Micheal was painfully written and I think Micheal's actor is utterly woeful. I like that they are trying to give Madison some actual character but I think it's too quick, she's suddenly found a heart out of nowhere and it's messy.

My biggest problem with the episode was Tate, I thought redeeming him by basically saying he was essentially possessed by the house so he could have a happily ever after with Violet was a terrible copout and a complete retcon of his character. He shouldn't have been a character that was redeemed and Violet needed a better ending. I think this episode wrapped everything up in too much of a bow tbh.

It was problematic but it was the best episode so far, I think. The format of the series is messy as hell though and the extent of the crossover between Coven and Murder House seemingly lasting only one episode is disappointing. but hopefully the upturn of quality in this episode will move things along in the last few episodes.

We should have had this backstory littered throughout the first three episodes I think especially considering that almost everything that happened in those episodes have now been rendered pointless. It would have been more effective if we learned that Cordelia was dying BEFORE we saw her enter the Bunker at the end of episode 3.

I think so far I'd place this series on the level of Hotel tbh, not completely unwatchable like Freakshow or Cult and is fun enough in it's own way but messy.

Micheal encounters a church of satanists that welcome him and introduce him to some players with enough clout to kickstart the apocalypse. Two or three scenes, done.

Also Billy Eichner playing a bro is just not realistic and those wigs were a choice.

The writing is just straight up bad too, I actually gasped when Smithy pointed out that massive continuity error. This is straight up amateurish, still, It's better than Cult at least.

It barely feels like the season has started though and it looks like we'll go back to the present for the final episode for a quick wrap-up. It's like a bunch of schoolchildren have been put in charge of this season.

If I was in charge of Netflix's acquisitions and I watched this season, I'd cancel Ryan Murphy's development deal immediately.

Oh Cult doesn't work as a cohesive whole and the characters are all over the place but there were 2 or 3 entertaining episodes with potential in the middle.

For me there hasn't been a single good episode this season. Even the best one, Return to Murder House was only good for "let's see Jessica Lange do what we've already seen her do in a story we already know".

Ever since Freakshow I feel like it’s been the case where every season has 3-4 fantastic episodes but is ultimately let down by corny scriptwriting and a story that takes you in so many different directions to reach an unsatisfying conclusion. To be fair, I didn’t watch Roanoke and stopped Hotel after a few episodes; but I hear I didn’t miss out on anything that spectacular.

Okay so overall I thought the finale was great (apart from the repeat scenes from previous episodes and the last five minutes. Michael getting killed by a car, Mallory’s cringy narrating and the whole teenagers having another anti christ for no apparent reason... Darren Criss to play the antichrist in season 10?)

But overall it was a decent ending. Coupled with a great start having an awful middle-endish season isn’t so bad after the disaster that was the entirety of cult but we really are settling now aren’t we. The show will never return to its glory days of the first four seasons and it’s just a fact. Now I question why they never went with a Coven spin off instead of Scream Queens but oh well)

Well, at least the finale was fun.

I loved the opening scene with Myrtle, it's probably the first time this season that they actually got her dialogue right and Marie's cameo was fun but the whole storyline with Adina was rushed as hell tbh, the whole episode was really but I'm willing to forgive that because it was a fun episode.

I'm glad we got to see Jessica Lange again although I'm slightly confused as to why tha

t scene with Micheal played out differently since she didn't kick him out the first time around. The way Mallory dispatched him made me howl tbh.

The biggest problem with the episode was the epilogue scenes, firstly it took me a solid three minutes before I remembered who the characters were and secondly, it made no sense to have them of all people bring forth another devil child since they established that Micheal was the antichrist BECAUSE he was the result of conception between a ghost and a human. Like with the massive mistake with Myrtle's timeline earlier in the season, the writers have forgotten their own lore here and it just felt like a really meh way to end the season. If they wanted to end it on another antichrist being born, they should have ended it with Mallory and the witches at the door instead of the satanists.

I think, having watched the series as a whole, it's a heaving mess that could have easily been fixed with just a touch of editing. It wouldn't surprise me if someone ends up creating a fan edit which cuts down the first three episodes into one and puts the series into chronological order whilst fixing the timeline errors. That alone would fix the weird ass pacing. Start off where the flashbacks begin, have the bunker episodes (in this case, episode) happen as the penultimate episode and then shave the epilogue off the last episode and there you'd have a solid 7/10 season.
