Today 116 people will die of an Opiod overdose (including prescription opioids, heroin, and fentanyl) and then another 116 tomorrow and another 116 on Friday and every day this year
42,000 died in 2016 - 40% prescription
President Trump has called for the death penalty for drug dealers in an attempt to combat America's opioids epidemic. He stated that 'we will find you, we will arrest you and we will hold you accountable'
Something has to be done?

The president in the Philippines has a similar outlook wrt. to drug crime, have you seen how that's turned out?

I dont think many comparisons can be made betwixt the two leaders and situations but having said that he was voted in to deal with the drug situation specifically

Well yeah I'm sure it is but revenge isn't really what the justice system is for and personally I don't think a system like the death penalty can ever be fool proof anyway and so i don't think it's fair to risk even 1 innocent person being killed. Also, especially in relation to drug dealing it's way too open to corruption and having the wrong people taking the fall for the big guys imo

..I don’t understand the death penalty at all in the USA...why prisoners are kept so long on death row before it’s carried out...for what purpose..?...I understand appeals etc....but if appeals applied as a possibility, then surely the death sentence should never have applied in the first place, rather than life imprisonment...if there is ‘no element of doubt’ as in witnesses and a confession etc...then why the many years on death row first..?...and if any element of doubt is left open in any way, then the death penalty should never be given...I just don’t understand any reasoning with it in the USA states that enforce it...

In all seriousness though... every death row court case costs $1.2 million. Keeping a prisoner on death row costs $100,000+ per year.
There are a LOT of drug dealers.
The maths don't really work.

My view is, if you don't get help or want help with your addiction you should be put to sleep.
