Schools in the UK have been put on lockdown amid a major safety alert after an email threated to 'run down and shoot' children.
Police have confirmed that "malicious communications" were sent to schools 'across the country'.
An email allegedly threatened 'pupils would be run down' if they left the building or shot down.
Schools across the country, including London, Durham, Cambridge, Suffolk and the West Midlands, have been affected while numerous other police forces are monitoring the situation.
Frantic parents are reported to be arriving at schools in a desperate attempt to remove their children.
My husband was just reading about this online, and then we got a text from Skyes school saying that police have 'confirmed' it was a hoax, but my heart is in my mouth here and I really want to go and get her :(

omg that's must be terrifying for you Vicky
perfectly understandable, and you should go get her if you want to.
It's exactly why people do hoaxes of course, to cause maximum disruption, but it takes a pretty sick mind to use schools for their kicks

Not sure what to do here like...its probably nothing but I do think the police are just saying that its a hoax to stop people panicking. And how can they be certain its a hoax

I doubt they would confidently say it was a hoax unless they knew it was, because of what that would mean if it then turned out not to be. If they've actually made a statement that it was a hoax... it probably means that they've traced the source of the messages already and it's just some idiot (or potentially even a kid?)
To be fair though, I'd be a wreck if it was around here.

It's horrible and I'm so sorry you have to go through the worry. I will never forget Dunblane and the horror of that as a new mother, thankfully I didn't have any in school then or I am sure I would have wanted to get them home too just to know they were safe.

If it is a hoax, what a terrible thing to do.

Well we went to get her. Her teacher didn't even bloody know anything about it all! Showed her the text from the school (was definitely from the school as they have a secure message type thing) and she was baffled, but did mention that schools were getting threats a few weeks back.
Everythings fine, think I just went into panic overmode tbh..I mean, if all schools in so many areas were threatened the chances of it being my childs school are so low. But I did not really think rationally. Now considering just keeping her off tomorrow tbh as I will be a wreck again and its the last day so they won't actually be doing any work
What a ****ing idiot though, threatening kids :(

the odd thing is I read last week that they had arrested a 19 year old in connection with the hoax calls made in London, maybe it's an internet dare type of thing :umm2:
