Well, if it's the law of the country, then I guess the smokers will have to smoke in the garden. I'm not sure. When is the smoking ban coming in for the UK?

Its not illegal if they smoke in the garden is it. But if they are locked in the living room during tasks and nominations it might be hard for some people.

Yep, what Cody said. When the smoking ban comes into place on the 1st July the housemates have to smoke in the garden. It has been classed as a workplace due to their activities are being televised, so its as if their job is to entertain. Gutted.

The Smoking Ban is very serious and Endemol will obey the law, even with the BB house.
There was an article about it in April.

Smoking ban hits BB house
April 03, 2007
SMOKING is to be stubbed out in the Big Brother house — after health chiefs declared it a workplace.
Producers could be fined up to £2,500 if housemates flout the no-cigs rule when it becomes law in England on July 1 — less than half way through the show’s run.
A source on BB, set to kick off next month, said: “The kind of people we sign up are often the type of people who like a fag. If they are banned from smoking, the atmosphere could get pretty tense.”
BB5 winner Nadia Almeida famously threw a wobbly after she was denied cigarettes and “Pussy Prat” politician George Galloway seemed to permanently have a cigar in his gob when he appeared on CBB.
The decision comes as the council that covers Elstree, Herts, told producers Endemol that the house is a working studio and NOT a home.
Catherine Feast, of Hertsmere Council, said: “We will implement the ban to protect the people working in that environment.
“If contestants do smoke in the house we will warn the producers — our aim is to educate, not enforce. But if it carries on we’ll have to decide if further action is needed.”
Under the legislation, smoking is banned in all public places including pubs, offices and public transport.
But it is allowed in private homes — plus places described by Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt as “like homes”, such as army barracks and prisons.
Housemates will be allowed to light up in the garden.
Endemol said: “We will ensure the show is compliant with legislation.”
This year’s show will be the last at Elstree. A new house is being built in Hammersmith, West London, for 2008.

I don't actually know clairedaisy?
but as this is a Sun Newspaper article only, we shall have to wait and see, as perhaps a deal has been struck by Endemol, to keep the BB house at Elstree.
But Hammersmith is okay:thumbs:

I think there will be loads of flirting this year, hopefully there will mostly normal housemates, please don't let there be housemates like Nikki and Pete and also no housemates that would be an obvious candidate to win from the moment they step foot in the house.

ahem.... you mean when is the smoking ban coming in force in ENGLAND... scotland already has the ban... anyway they have to enforce the ban because the house is classed as a working place for the camera crew behind the mirrors.. and the non smoking housemates could complain... !!

About time that ban was put into effect. I am sick of being in a pub and I come out in a rash and can't speak for a day. My clothes take ages to wash the stench out.

Simple solution: Don't go to the pub! :D

The Big Brother house isn't a public place

But it is a place of work and so falls under the new rules.

When I suggested this could happen people were quick to say no way! I would have been very surprised if they had not. The house can only be seen as a workplace especially for those running around behind the walls where where air is sure to reach from the house.
It comes down to respect for each other really, those that dont smoke should not have to live with the stink clinging to them for weeks on end and those that do smoke should not be made to feel like monsters for doing so.

It is going to be so funny..... X number of housemates all giving up smoking at the same time.
Imagine how bad that Nadia would've been if she was in it this year .

Housemates, I'm sure, will be allowed to smoke in the Garden, just not actually inside the House.

And why should a smoker have rights to go to the pub over a non-smoker? If anything it should be the other way round. I am not killing anyone through passive smoking.

If people are really that bothered they why dont they have pubs with two rooms, one where they can smoke one where they cant, then everyone is happy
