Liberal megadonor celebrates Mother’s Day with warning not to let your kids become Nazis

Liberal megadonor Tom Steyer wants to wish you a happy Mother’s Day, with a gentle reminder — don't let your kids become Nazis.

In a wild ad posted to YouTube this week, Steyer’s SuperPAC, NextGen America, warns that mom’s large adult son could very well be sliding past the Republican party and into white nationalism.

It's certainly on brand for Steyer, who has funneled tons of money into inflammatory anti-Trump ads, including a $20 million series he ran last year calling for Trump’s impeachment.

“I started noticing some issues with him, maybe in middle school,” an actor playing mom says as Steyer's ad opens. A senior yearbook photo of her troglodyte kid flashes across the screen. His senior quote, under the photo, reads “Go back to where you came from,” attributed to “Me.”

“The stealing started out small, a few dollars here and there, but not from me, oddly enough, but from less fortunate kids,” the actor continues.

NextGen says the inflammatory ad won’t air on TV, and the org spent less than $3,000 promoting it on social media to very targeted audiences. NextGen promotes a slate of progressive issues, from climate change action to fighting inequality to voter registration, and their coffers are huge. Steyer made his money in hedge funds, and Forbes, for what it's worth, estimates that he’s worth $1.6 billion.

“Only a mother can catch the signs early,” she warns. “This Mother’s Day, talk to your child about the GOP.”

“I wish I had,” she says, looking wistfully at an old framed photograph of her son.

Yeah, it's trying to exist behind the smokescreen between satire and reality...I'm legitimately confused because I'm not sure who their target is supposed to be if it's that rigidly serious... I guess it could be meant to spark a conversation, which would make the most sense... but if this is meant to be 100% serious, as in all voters of the GOP are hateful individuals, then it is indeed satire.

I think this kind of negative campaigning will backfire, especially with independents... But here's an example in the opposition...

I often receive propaganda mail a pro-Christian source before elections... in this case, for the Republican primaries (run off)...

Anyway this one was a small 'zine with endorsed candidates (concerned the "most" conservative). They will put a red check-mark next to names they endorse. Underneath some of the opposition candidates, they have the following blurbs:

(US Congress)
"Calls Trump an Idiot and Bashes Christians"
(Justice of the Peace -- they do court weddings)
"Asked for a temporary chapel for gay weddings after the Harvey flood.

Oh the humanity. You mean to tell me there are Republican candidates that consider the thoughts and needs of all of their constituents... not just people of a certain race or religious affiliation. I guess I better not vote for those very reasonable person(s)...

I thought so too, but I must confess that I never know now what is serious or not when it hails from the internet.

:joker:

of course its a joke. She is an actor you can tell and the idea is based on talk to your kids about drugs but in this case, horror of horrors the son is a trump supporter

But is it anti-Trump propaganda DRESSED as a joke or a swipe at the anti-Trump propagandists?

That is what confuses me.

If its clever its both but I think its just equating supporting Trump to that of being a heroin addict for parents and their kid worries

I legitimately can't figure it out either :joker:. It feels more like it's making fun of "extreme" anti-Trump people to me, though? Like it's such an obvious parody, it has to be pointing out how "over the top" people can be.

In fact it's so ridiculous it almost reminds me of a Brass Eye type sketch.

"Security footage of a paedophile disguised as a school. He's been getting away with it in Sheffield for 12 years."
