New additions to forum: Karma + Index stats

Hi,

Many people have asked for this addition before, but we haven't really thought it necessary until now. Here's a brief outline of what Karma is.

- Next to someones name on the forum there is some text


-Karma | +Karma


If you enjoy reading a post someone makes, or something they link, click the +Karma button and they are awarded +1 karma.

There is a -Karma button, but we would prefer if you didn't give it out for no reason. We have a log of everyone who uses Karma, and anyone found to be giving -Karma for no reason will have the ability to use it removed. One reason you might give -karma is if someone perhaps is spamming or making duplicate posts of something.

Every 10 karma points you get, you are awarded a little thumbs up logo.

Members with 100+ posts can use the Karma.

You may only give a Karma every 3 hours to someone. (If it is found that people are working in teams or anything to boost each others, we will raise it and/or remove your privileges.)

That's pretty much it, have fun with it and.... use it, don't abuse it!

Index Stats bar is back. Go to the main forum page and scroll to the bottom. I must make one thing clear though, and this is pretty important....

Anyone deliberately spamming or posting pointless threads in attempt to be member of the day will receive a warning. It's not a competition, remember that :) I know there are a lot of people against having it, but this is a trial run, if it gets abused I will remove it.

It was removed before because people spammed to try and be Member of the day.

I just noticed that, I don't expect I'll get much "karma" but at the end of the day it's a bit of fun and I'll just take it on the chin. I've made a promise to myself to be active and fit in more on the boards during BB8 and as a result I won't let it get to me if I don't get anything.

I'm sorry but I don't like the idea of Karma at all. I feel for people that get -Karma might make people 'small' and people don't appreciate there threads. For instance, I'm already on -1 and I've no idea why. As far as I'm aware, my posts have been fine today. Maybe I'm looking into it too deep. Just my opinion.

It is not about previous arguments or grudges, it is about whether or not you like a post made by someone, it is I suppose a way of objecting at the time if that makes sense?

If you do not like a post, you should keep quiet or stand up and say why you have a problem. An anonymous critique by giving a -karma seems like a cowardly way of doing things.

BIG-BRO-FAN - we all asked for it a few months back and all the members wanted it and the majority are still happy with it. As they said, the Admin will be moderating it so don't worry if people are doing it for no reason, they'll take their ''karma power'' away.

I have been out all day & sadly, I never got to express my opinions regarding these "Karma Ratings"

I think that "Mark" was just trying something new & different for this great forum.

When an idea like this is put to the test, then it will naturally take some time to see whether it works or doesn't work. At this early stage, it would be very difficult to prove either way.

I personally think, that many members will enjoy this new idea and there will be some great enjoyment watching their Karma numbers go up & up. It is like a little game of rewards.

I don't think that there is any problem with it and I think that in time, we shall really know.

Also, if the idea proves to be a wrong one? Then it won't take too much time or effort to remove the Karma Ratings. So I guess, it will be like a kind of "Trial period".

Myself personally won't be taking part in these Karma Ratings as I don't think it matters very much to myself. I am also not so interested in gaining great post-counts either. I read somewhere, that it is more about the quality of your posts, rather than the quantity. Also, many members may not like what you or I are posting anyway, so I guess, "Quality is in the eye of the beholder" also.

To debate & chat & have fun is enough for me, but if many members like these "Karma numbers", then it definately worth a try and I am certainly saying, that is worth seeing what happens over the next week or so, before passing too many judgements.

I know this is a bit random, but Iv'e noticed that some members have got bold text for the karma bit when everyone else has normal. Does that mean that they are special members, or has that just happened acciently? :tongue:

It's just an knock on effect from the HTML code in the custom title that makes the rest of the text where the karma rating is appear in bold. Anyone can do it if they like.

I can't explain now as I don't have time now if. Sophii3x if you want yours changing I can do it for you but not until Thursday evening. Just drop me a U2U.

An hour seems reasonable. Nobody will waste time spamming if they have to wait an hour, but if you are coming on here for a few hours, you might like to add Karma to a few different posters, especially with new people coming along that we might not have met before. :thumbs:

I wouldn't worry too much about it to be honest. The best thing you could do in the future is not tell anyone if you are adding or subtracting Karma from them and that way nobody can do it to you as revenge. :thumbs:
