View Full Version : The reason for the lack of BB20 news

Considering we should've had the premiere date two months ago I've been a bit confused, so did a bit of digging to find out what's been going on behind the scenes, and thought I'd share what I found for those who don't know

Basically, CBS (and notably Les Moonves) are embroiled in a legal battle that may well end in his resignation. The speculation is that if he leaves then Julie will too out of loyalty, throwing Big Brother into chaos. Basically, they seemingly have much bigger things to focus on than BB20...

Here's some good articles that provide an overview of the legal battle:

I doubt Julie will leave, she was tweeting about the renewal of #BBCeleb the other day

I really hope it's not delayed (at least not too much) or even skipped this year :worry:

Also will we really never have another All Stars season :suspect: Is it too much to ask for a second season of Enzo or Johnny Mac or Zach Rance or Jen Johnson (although I'm not sure if she'd be a lock for AS) :fist:

Jen should be an all star.

Definitely! Idk if she would be though :worry: She probably does fit for an All Stars season enough and I'm sure they'd give her a call as at least a possibility but then I also wonder if she would even do it again

As much as I love Julie, if her husband is hushed and bribed out of CBS, she will stand by her man and sadly step down as host.

Because it's the one year where All Stars makes sense.

Grodner already said it wont be a returning player season. Wait till all the shows that are airing are over with before they start advertising for BB thats what usually happens.

Julie is the best host, she must stay. She's better than Jeff Probst.

CBS begins advertising for Big Brother on the date of the Survivor finale, which is this Wednesday. If Julie is there, then we know for sure she's returning as the host. If not, that extends as evidence that she may not return and that her status is pending. She also has a contract, so if she already agreed to host BB20, she has to or prepared to be sued for breach of Contract.

If Julie may not return, that doesn't effect the premier date because I'm pretty sure that CBS & Allison have a back-up plan in the case Julie backs out or in unable to host (hence Season 11, when she was pregnant).

As for no set date of when the show will air, my other guesses are:

1. Big Brother doesn't need to advertise as much because fans often know that the show will premier on the last Wednesday of June, as it has done so for the past five years.
2. We may be getting a July premier and a season lasting no longer than 75-82 days, and it wouldn't surprise me if that it an effect from the Celeb Season. If it is less than 75 days, then that could be a sign for OTT2 in the Fall.

I feel like everyone wants it to be all stars! Survivor did it already.. such a waste to have newbies. Se have had some really average seasons recently with tbe new people

Isn't cast reveal usually like 2 weeks (or a week and a half) before the premiere? So that's reeeally close and we still haven't gotten much of anything for rumors and news on this season

Actually it might only be a week before when they enter the house but still.

All Star seasons work FINE - when there isn't constant returning players in other seasons. If they never had the BB13 4 returnees, BB14 4 returnees, they could have had a decent allstars around BB14... and then had they not had the 4 returnees for BB18 and not had Paul ruin another season they could have had a third all stars soon.

Ngl the MAIN reason I'd love to see All Stars is to see a third straight season of Paul (and the fumes) :laugh2:

I bet he'd go EARLY though and complete the exact same Russell Hantz trilogy :joker:

Here's the problem with All-Stars:

1. The absolute greats don't want to do the show again. Dan, Rachel, Evel Dick, Dr. Will, Jeff/Jordan, and Derrick don't want to do this again. Nicole probably wouldn't do this again. Same for Paul. Vanessa has a calendar full of commitments and she isn't a die-hard fan, so she probably isn't going to clear out her schedule for a game she feels she will be targeted right away.

2. All Stars in the summer means we go two whole years without an original cast, as unlike Survivor, we only get one civilian season per year. This is what made Season 8 so anticipated and I didn't like this season, and my interest in Big Brother almost started to disappear.

3. The other problem is gender imbalance. Many of the best female candidates were from BBOTT, which may not be considered due to the fact it didn't air, Celeb BB 1, which isn't civilian BB and Season 15, which is the season that CBS likes to pretend never happened. These seasons would only be considered to fill in necessary quotas.

4. The other problem is season imbalance. Since Season 15 was so controversial and Season 19 lack people who truly deserve to return, the majority of an all-returning season would be people from Season 16, 17 & 18. All other seasons would only be considered based off of what type of theme they're going for and what quotas/stereotypes that person from those seasons fill.

What could be done is since they've gotten success in airing fall/spring seasons, we could get a Fall season. This can help appease fans who only want new players and appease fans who want some of their favorite players to return. Plus, since this season would probably begin to air no later than two weeks after the finale of the civilian season and finish the week before Thanksgiving, lasting no more than seven or so weeks and have about 13 players with two DE's, CBS may be willing to increase the stipend because even if they raised it to $2,000/per week, the most amount of money an evicted houseguest would get is $14,000, which is roughly $2,000 more than 3rd place would get now.

The other thing is they might not be able to call it all-stars, since we may not get the true all stars, we'd probably get a bunch of players who played mediocre to solid and wouldn't be an instant threat. It would probably be "super fans" who would do this show again no matter what and regardless of how they played. You also have to factor in what season someone was in and what stereotype they fill.

1. Donny is the first they'd call to represent the older generation. If he says no, which there's only one reason he would, we then have to settle for Kevin, who isn't by any means an "all star".

2. Da'Vonne is the "token black chick" they would cast. She would probably not say no, but if this all-returning player season was second chance, the next token to fill this is Omarosa who isn't even from a Civilian season. Justin is in that same category. No way they would cast Candice, Howard, Zakiyah, Jacosta or Devin. Kalia is a long shot. Jody is the next possible choice for any theme but for All-Stars.

3. As for the LGBT quota, Frankie is the first they'd cast. if he says no, the next option is Jason, then Andy. If it's second chance, the next best option we currently have is Ramses if Jason doesn't count as a second chance option. I'm not entertaining the idea of having Jozea back. Audrey is also possible, if CBS feels her popularity outweighs the fact she had a meltdown. Ross is an option if this season will mix celebrity/civilian.

4. As for the cowboy/beard, Donny is the bearded guy they would cast, as he also fits the older quota as well. Caleb is the first cowboy they'd have. If Caleb says no, then we get James, who also fits the minority quota. However, if it's a second chance season, the next option is Jason, who nobody wants back.

5. As for "Super fans", Michelle Meyer is the female fan they can cast because she'd for sure say yes. Ian may decline, or wouldn't fit, same for Steve, Nicole or Josh. Jess will also probably fit, and also fits the "token hot chick" stereotype as well. Cameron fits the second chance theme and may be asked, but not all stars. For all-stars, Johnny Mac is the most likely fan they could get for that season who didn't win. Matt Hoffman is also a possibility if they're willing to cast that far back. Then, we have Daniele Donato if they'll go that far back and if it's not a second chance theme.

6. As for other minorities, we have Victor who fits all-stars and (barely) fits the second chance theme. James as I mentioned earlier fits any theme but for second chance. I can't even see Paul doing this. As for women, we have Natalie who may not agree to be in any season with James, but also fits eye-candy, then possibly Bridgette. Then, we have Alex who is less popular and less wanted back by fans than Helen, who is on the season CBS would try to avoid to have represented.

7. As for eye candy, Cody Calafiore is the first man they'd call, this gives Season 16 four men they'd call early for another season from the same season. Cody also heavily fits a "second chance" theme. Zach Ranse is an option, though that would then give us five men from the same season. Then, we have Victor, Natalie, and Jess who also fit other quotas/types. Paulie is also an option, but i think CBS would rather they'd cast Cody. Then, we have Mark or Elena (who'd be a long shot) as options and then James Maslow if they consider mixing celebrity/civilian.

8. As for the next category, we have Eric Stein, Jase Wirey, and Danielle Reyes as the 2000s players they could cast. Then, we have Keesha and Matt Hoffman as possibilities if Keesha would be willing to do the show again. Then, we have Danielle Murphee and Britany Haines, if it isn't a second chance season and if Britany would be willing to return a third time. I feel like these people and the people in Season 19 I mentioned would mainly be cast once they'd got everybody from Seasons 16-18 locked.

9. Then, we go into Season 15, the last season CBS would try to have represented with an exception for maybe Season 13 and Season 9 is out of the question because it's too obscure. We could get Andy, who fits the LGBT quota or Nikc, a super fan for the guys. We could get Helen, who is a super fan, fits the minority quota and even represents the older generation now. Then, if we get OR Amanda, but we're not getting both of them. We would never get more than two people to represent. As for Celeb BB, we'd get James, Omarosa, and Ross. As for BBOTT, we'd only get Shelby or Alex, who do fit the eye candy quota. These people would only be considered once people from Seasons 16-18 are locked and whats left after we consider older people and alternates from Season 19. It's also possible they'd consider Elissa because she's Rachel's sister, with it having nothing to do with the fact she's from Season 15.

So, can we get all stars? Yes, if they're willing to have a shortened season that either airs on TV or on All Access and if it's all stars or second chance, don't expect everybody in the cast to be people who merit any second chance and if it's not second chance, then expect threepeats. also, expect most of the cast to be from Seasons 16, 17 & 18. And if it's all stars or second chance or whatever, expect it to consists of solid to mediocre players who's game play isn't strong enough to make then instant targets.

Cast reveal is usually one week before the premier. They're probably going to get "kidnapped" late next week.
