I think he would abdicate.
I'd also like to see Wills and Kate up top.

Aw give him a go, even if it's for like 5/10 years. Poor bugger's waited long enough!

I think he would do a great job but William would probably be best really as he will hold the role longer imo

Do it for five years then abdicate. He's been waiting for so long I doubt he will just abdicate to William but he is too old to start such a position IMO

No.
It’s a job for life.
He has earned it..looking like he will be well into his seventies before he takes it up, if not older.

With the Queen starting to shed some of her regal duties to her descendants, he a)will be doing more now anyway b)can also pass on some of his duties when he takes the throne. I don't really see his age as a reason for him not to become the monarch, and media popularity shouldn't really have an impact on who is crowned.
Totally irrelevant but a nice story; one of my great-uncles was in the Navy, and the Queen was doing a duty visit of some kind. All the crew (or whatever) were in a line to exchange pleasantries with her, and he broke protocol by bursting out "I just found out my wife's pregnant!" because he was really excited.
Many years later, she was doing a different visit, and during the line up thing she asked him if it was a boy or girl.
I don't think it really matters to some degree... but I'd like to see Will & Kate take the throne at a younger age, just because I think the older that people get, the less willing they are to assume any risk or rock the cart... I could see Will & Kate being very effective both at home and certainly on the world stage... I say abdicate. Young naivety would be an asset in this case.

Charles is one of the few royals I actually like, the most ostensibly charitable and inspirational anyway.
Charles has been in waiting for decades. At this point he all but runs things behind the scenes. How active a part do people really believe the queen has now as a person in her 90's? I could be completely wrong, but he doesn't seem to me to be particularly fit and healthy, so I can imagine William doing something similar to what Charles does now for the queen when Charles finally gets the throne
Also, I think it's important that the younger generation are allowed to enjoy their youth and freedom before taking on the total royal responsibility

Why? He is the next in line so why should he abdicate. I hope this has nothing to do with his age! Youth does not mean better.

Charles is in favour of a more stripped back monarchy so people who complain about the royal hangers on should hope he has a few years reign as he will continue to strip that back and save tax payers money. He has spent his whole life being trained and shaped for becoming king to overlook him due to popularity should not happen, its about traditional succession so he should take the crown when the queen passes on.

I hope you didn't just assume that because I'm Young I think he'd abdicate because of his age.
To be totally honest, I don't know why he'd abdicate because he's one of the royals I know least about, but ever since I educated myself on the system of monarchy I've just had a suspicion that he would. I'm not the only one who thinks it either.
Anyway you've chosen to have a go at me because you assume I'm talking about his age (which I wasn't, by the way) yet there's other people in here who've explicitly mentioned his age that you've not batted an eyelid towards.

Well he's chosen to raise issue with my opinion on matter of assumption. There was just no need.

Nothing personal but you mentioned a preference for William and I wondered why. Will will get his chance but Charles has waited a long time. I think the queen stayed too long - she should have had more faith in her own son in my opinion.

I only have preference over Will and Kate because my generation have been much more involved in their lives over Charles and Camilla. Not that I don't have faith or trust in Charles as a King, but I'd trust Will more just because I know more about him and feel more involved with him than the others.
I'd take Harry and Meghan over all of them though - it's just Will is next in line that I used him.
I think the Queen just wants to live her role out until the last day which is fair enough - doing her duty for the country.

No I don’t think he should, we are seeing much more of Camilla on TV these days so the groundwork is being prepared . I don’t think William and Kate do enough in all honesty, and they have 3 young kids so they can concentrate on them and take it in in later years

^ I agree with this, Shaun. I like Charles. He HAS been 'muffled' to a degree as well so I think we will see more of the 'inner' Charles if he does ascend the throne.

Not a fan of Charles. Pass it to our Wills.
it takes a special type of skill to be king or queen, and with all due respect to William, he hasn't proven he has what it takes yet. Charles has, over and over. William will get his turn at some point, there is no need to rush in to it, and that's assuming he even wants the role himself. It's a big assumption that he has a stronger desire for the role than his father.

It's a silly question, Charles will be king in the same way the queen will die on the throne.
Being popular has nothing to do with becoming king, the government runs the country not the king.
And for people mentioning age, look at how well his mother is doing and for that matter his father, Charles will live to a hundred at least.

I quite like the idea of Charles being the king, although lots of people don’t like the idea of Camilla being the Queen. I like Camilla though, so I’d be fine with Charles and Camilla being King and Queen.

I didn’t used to like Camilla but she has grown on me a bit now. Is it because she allegedly broke up the marriage? I think the marriage was broken anyway in many ways. The fact he fell for an older woman suggests to me he truly loved her as it went against convention and not many royals are brave enough to break convention.

Yes.
She has a cracking sense of humour and has the good looks of an aging queen already set in place.

im sure it was because people generally thought that she would never match Diana in terms of likeability
