Weird, aren't post ids usually made a primary key, i.e. usually iterative? If it is primary key and doesn't allow duplicates... then it should be the true value.

I empty my tables all the time when doing CRUD work and it just iterates to the next value after the last used. It looks silly & awkward.

None, surely? There is only one "true" figure, if you start discounting certain posts then it's a manufactured and artificial result.

But those posts still existed? I totally understand the logic, but really there can only ever be ONE accurate figure.

It's like...say I owned a shop, and decided to reward the 100th customer that day with a gift voucher. But a couple of people came in a few times, there were one or two I didn't like, and another that was barred. Sure, I can decide to discount whoever - but really, truly, there will only ever be ONE '100th customer' to walk through the door.
