I don't think they're necessary for anybody other than people who can't look after a dog. And my advice for them is... Don't get a bloody dog.

A friend of mine tried it out on herself...as a result she stopped using it on her dog.... It's cruel.

Just train your dog, or if that's "too much trouble", get a hamster or something. Simple.

Ban them!

My dog used to be terrible on a lead, she would try jumping in the road and pull me where she wanted but I trained her with toys and treats and now she is brilliant on a lead. She's ignorant though and won't come in at night but I wouldn't dream of putting a collar on her to scare or hurt her into doing as I say.
