Shaun's thread about people who make threads but don't reply to them made me realise that I haven't done one of these in a while. :hee:

It depends. On the quality of the steak, the cut, the quality of the place, whether I'm having sauce as I dont like blood in the sauce etc.

My daughter like this dodgy place, ordered a steak from there I had a bite and was still chewing it 10 minutes later so I'd be quite fussy about how I'd have a steak at that restaurant but if I was going to a better place then I'd leave it to the chef. If I went to franchise place it would depend on the cut of meat - There's not point in having a fillet mignon anything over medium rare but a rib eye or rump is probably better cooked beyond medium rare. So it all depends.
I knew we'd had this question recently so I decided to post what I posted last time

Like, how do people who have it extra rare not get ill!? Surely there's hella bacteria in the blood/uncooked meat!?

Its guidelines state that whole cuts of meat, such as steaks, cutlets and joints, are only ever contaminated by bacteria on the outside of the meat, which are destroyed during cooking even if the middle of the meat is pink, or rare.

Medium rare generally. But I like it rare too, and medium I guess. Anything more than that is a waste of steak IMO.

I do order well done in other countries also, because I once ordered it medium and it came near raw. So it seems ordering well done makes it actually medium/medium rare.
