View Full Version : Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee officially confirmed with trailer
Meh tbh. I'd rather it was gen 8.

*screeches in a pitch only Zubats can hear*
According to the leaks this will kind of be a new generation in that there will be new pokemon available. The leaks have also said that it's not just a remake of the old games either.
I kinda hope the Pokemon Go style of catching pokemon is optional, how are you meant to level up if you can't fight wild pokemon?
Co-op is pretty exciting too.
Ugh, I'm so hyped for this. I pre-ordered it already (Eevee edition, FYI).

Maybe they've turned the old formula on it's head?
Having a third version/remake come out before the new official gen?

Apparently there's NO online....
Said where?
I must admit, the whole 2 players can join together REALLY appeals to me. My friend is really into pokemon so we'll see

No wild battles so really cba with that, seems to defeat the point?

Does one of your friends have one? I think you can just use their spare Joycon to join in and play (I dunno how that'd work? Like, what Pokemon would you have or would you share a party/) with them
It's looking like the Switch will be home to core Pokemon RPGs up until Gen 9 (which I'm fine with) but it'd be worth just checking out how Gen 8 looks first (also, Smash for Switch is more than enough reason to get a Switch IMO )

I dont think i care about the ‘no wild battles’ it looks like the character walked up to the clefairy and interacted with it before challenging it.
I think it just means, no random encounters - we get the option whether to encounter now (based on the way it looks in the trailer, not any type of actual research lol)

My biggest question is, can I literally catch them all?

The Pokemon can move about so even if you try to avoid them, you probably will get caught. I think it's just to add to the feel of realism maybe? No idea

Hard to say tbh. They've only shown off Gen 1 Pokemon (as you know) but Gen 1 pokemon have pre-evos and evos introduced in later gens. Will they be excluded? Maybe. It'd be a shame if they were though (although you gotta wonder how much you can do with just one region. That said you could catch something like 450 pokemon in XY but that was including Friend Safari) especially since that's always essentially been the aim of Pokemon
Makes you wonder though, what's the deal here? Are we battling gyms and trying to get to the Pokemon League? Is it just Pokemon GO expanded upon? If we can't catch them all, it makes me wonder
Oh wow I just realised in the scene where they catch Psyduck (1:32) Psyduck has "CP 92"
How much are they diverging towards Pokemon GO? :worry:
So apparently
Online play is a thing. A journalist messed up the translation and said it wasn’t.
It’s only the first 151 in this game but there’s also going to be a brand new Pokemon somewhere along the line.
Gen 8 is in development and will be released next year.
It seems to be a game catered towards the Pokemon Go players though which I guess is a smart move as it’s popularity waned as time went on.

I really wasn’t happy about this this until I found out it wasn’t like gen 8 or the new main line game so now I’m pretty fine with it

I'm hoping that there will be post game areas where you can get later gen pokemon. I want a Mimikyu tbh.

I assume we'll be able to rebattle trainers or there's gonna be some kind of battle hall where you get matched up with AI opponents to level with.
I might warm to them once we find out a bit more

The Pokemon go intergration is worrying but I'm still optimistic now that the online business was confirmed to be a mistranslation.
I'm just hoping that the 2019 release will be less Pokemon Go focused.

I don’t get the point o the special gift at the end too?? Like it’s obv the new eeveelution but what’s the point in having Pokemon 1-151 and then 888? Or whatever number it’d be? Doesn’t make sense!

It's an all new pokemon apparently, I suspect it's a new legendary.
kinda disappoints me that a 3d kanto remake has been used for this and not an actual game

I'd love Kanto be included in a "proper" game. Does anyone know offhand if it borders any existing regions other than Johto? A game like (H)G(S)S where it starts with a new region and has Kanto for postgame could be cool.
Even better - having Kanto and Johto as well as the new region!
I wonder if that dude in Vermillion city has finished his building yet :D The Pokemon stomping the ground flat is probably a Machamp by now :D

The more I’m seeing of it, the more I’m coming round to it, I guess you never actually battle Pokémon on the handheld unless you want to catch them, then after that its generally just running from them, I don’t ever actually battle wild Pokémon to level up my own (well after a point anyway)
I just hope there’s a decent amount of gameplay time in it, idk why but I feel like it’ll be a really easy game and really quick to complete

The way I see it, it's a spinoff. The next generation is coming in 2019 so I just see it as a stopgap game tbh.
I think a lot of the gameplay they've shown has been dialled down for stream purposes, I know they've upped the amount of EXP pokemon earn but it'll be dialled down for the release.
The whole not having access to a gym unless you have a pokemon that is strong against the gym type is worrying but I assume that's just for the first gym.

Yeah as it's not a main-gen game I'm not too fussed about gameplay - it'll just be fun to run around a fresh looking Kanto, farting around with Gen 1 'mons.
Though the new Kanto map does make me wonder where exactly the SS Anne is meant to go:
https://poketouch.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/pokemon_lets_go_pikachu_and_lets_go_eevee_kanto_re gion_map.jpg
From what I've seen, some of the earlier trainers have Pokemon the same level as in the original Yellow game's rival at Victory Road (essentially the end of the game) so I can only imagine trainers having higher level pokemon will account for the possible lack of grinding (as you can't level up against wild Pokemon)
Here's hoping there's a heavy focus on rematches then

Its the same deal as Pokemon Yellow i think. Pikachu or Eevee are your starters and aside from the pokemon go mechanics and seeing wild pokemon on the overworld, it looks basically like a normal pokemon game
I hope you can evolve Eevee

I hope they keep some things from this game for Gen 8.
The lack of random battles is heavenly, do you know how good it felt to go through Mt. Moon without having to battle a single wild Zubat? Random battles should stay gone.
I also like having access to the pokemon box on the menu instead of only at PCs. Feels more intuitive that way.

Mostly yay.
There's about the same amount of battles as there were before but the exp feels less for trainer battles, instead you get most of your exp capturing pokemon. If you get combos going you can level up your pokemon very quickly.
The only thing that really annoys me about the game so far is the inconsistency when it comes to capturing pokemon, you can land an excellent throw with a pokeball that should capture a pokemon in one and you'll end up wasting five pokeballs on it instead. The motion controls can be iffy at times too.
I'd rate it a solid 8/10 so far.

It's the first Pokemon game that makes catching more and more Pokemon appealing, even more so, now that EXP is shared with the whole party.

It is quite easy and addictive. If you stick with the same six pokemon, you'll be overleveled quickly but I like changing them around so I'm not too overleveled at the moment.
I think overall, it's a nice little stopgap until the next, more traditional pokemon game next year.

It is basically a souped up version of Pokemon Yellow, remember so if you're planning on getting a Switch just for it, you might end up disappointed.
I think it's a great game to get if you already have a Switch but unless you're interested in other Switch games, it's not great enough to buy a Switch for.

I would recommend The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids, and likely Super Smash Bros Ultimate all before Pokemon Let's Go (as well as Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze if you didn't have a Wii U).

Is anyone finding the trainers way too easy? I am not far, but all the trainers I'm facing only have one Pokemon and they're leveled UNDER the surrounding Pokemon
Tom4784
19-11-2018, 02:13 AM
Trainers don't start using more than one until after Ceruleum City but I think the game up until after the second badge is like a tutorial. You can't fight Brock until you show the guy at the gym a water or grass type and you can't fight Misty unless you have a level 15 pokemon but no such restrictions are in place for Surge.
Trainers use more pokemon after you beat Misty and the levels jump up too.

I just got my first badge and i'm actually loving the game so far. it feels so nice not to battle 5000 Pidgeys and not to spend ages leveling up all pokemon so you're not weak for the gym. I like the requirements for each gym too. I just caught Charmander and Bulbasaur  I would give it a 8.5/10 and i wouldn't mind if they did this for every gen.
I was so set on not getting it but I'm seeing more things and it's making me jealous </3
I think Ill hold out until Gen 8 regardless. I'm sure it'll only expand on everything bar catching (unless it becomes an optional mode)

If you already have a switch and you like Pokemon, go for it.
I doubt Gen 8 will take much, if anything from Let's Go since they've established that they hope 'Let's Go' becomes a bit of a spinoff series. I definitely think they should take at least two things from this game though, portable boxes so you can switch pokemon on the fly and removing random battles.
