The fact that the White House are trying to equate this with Roseanne's racism (she also called Hillary the c-word, btw) is laughable

Samantha Bee is just an unfunny wreck who doesn't deserve her "fame", but stupid comments which are completely in character for her don't really warrant the advertisers abandoning her.

Preach, the fact they are pushing this because of 'double standards' is ridiculous considering they don't seem to mind it when men they like call women *****.

It's a joke.

The "C" word is not like by Church Folk
and advertisers get messages from viewers
saying
that they must pull out from her show,
or they lose the product getting sold etc.

Its how long they stay away that is the Danger
to her comedy show.

Avoid the "C" word,
on TBS , USA.

This is progression, embrace it, it's 2018 after all.

Progression is not trying to undercut racism by shifting focus. That is sliding back, not going forward.

Progression is not trying to undercut racism by shifting focus. That is sliding back, not going forward.Rosanne has said that she didn't know that the woman was black and thought that she was white, so she didn't believe at the time that she was being racsist.

Does that change anything?

No, lies don't tend to change the facts.

Forgetting for a moment people jumping on bandwagons, money talks with advertisers, nothing else, so clearly she directly detrimentally affected their bottom line.

No, lies don't tend to change the facts. If I saw a picture of Valerie Jarrett for the first time, I would think she was white too.

I don't believe there was intent of racism by Rosanne.

...so the Muslim Brotherhood (which Roseanne also compared her to) are all white as well, are they?

Rosanne made a mistake (we've all made mistakes and we'll continue too) she immedietly apologised, give the woman a break and a bit of forgivness.

Valerie Jarrett has been a long term boogeyman for the insane American right. To say that Roseanne didn't know what she looked like is a flat out lie. She also called Susan Rice (another Obama appointed right wing target) an ape in 2013.

It isn't how ethnicity or race work; "she doesn't look completely black so Roseanne wasn't being racist"

It could just be that Rosanne didn't realise the woman was black, so didn't know making the comparison could have racist implications.

part of a big team.

Crowder debunks her or makes fun of her from time to time. She's a really rubbish comedian who makes political jokes, but the "facts" the jokes are built on are always misrepresented, and she says everything in a joke voice.

It could just be that Rosanne didn't realise the woman was black, so didn't know making the comparison could have racist implications.Aussie Rules player - Adam Goodes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Goodes)

https://i.imgur.com/GjiVnme.jpg

Fron his wiki page -

On 24 May 2013, during the AFL's annual Indigenous Round, a 13-year-old Collingwood supporter called Goodes an "ape". Upon hearing the abuse, Goodes pointed the girl out to security who ejected her from the stadium.[22] After the game, Collingwood president Eddie McGuire apologised to Goodes on behalf of the club. McGuire said that Collingwood had a zero tolerance policy towards racism, but also said that the girl, who later apologised to Goodes, did not know that what she had said was a racial slur.[23] Goodes said that he was "gutted" and that he had "never been more hurt" but nevertheless called on the community to support the girl instead of blame her.[24][25]

Do you think it's a not insane comparison in this case? Ape is a word that is used pretty much around the globe to describe people often indigenous people so, for me, its always an insane comparison.

"I didn't know the woman was black" is certainly a fresh approach.

Beats the "My cousin's husband is black so I'm not racist"!

Tbf, I wouldn't have known that calling someone an ape/monkey was a common derogatory comparison towards black folk until I read that sort of critique on the internet. I always traditionally thought it was just meant to call anyone really stupid and ignorant (i.e. primate level IQ)... hence Homer Simpson being likened to an ape.

C'mon, there's no debate that the resemblance is there. The only thing to debate is whether or not it should be pointed out, and the possibly racist implications of doing so.

I wasn't sure if you were t taking the p&ss with your last post. Thanks for clearing it up.

Personally I never compare people to animals but if you do then go for it however, word of warning, you may find yourself in this position in the future. Be careful with that

I wasn't comparing her to an ape. I said her hairstyle is similar to the hairstyle the (human) actress had in a 50 year old film.

Technically it's not an ape, it's a character from "Planet of the Apes" so it's a human in a costume.
