There is a difference between a thread that was asking if michael 21 is fake or not, and a thread saying he is a good member,

Feel free to make a positive thread about michael21

I know kirk did not mean the thread in a negative way, but it would clearly go that way with the Op asking if people thought M21 was fake or not. And the reason it was deleted was that, along with...if someone made a thread asking if (for example) brillopad was fake or not...it would be reported and there would be hell on if it was not removed. And if not reported straight away, then once people said 'yes I think so' it would be reported.

Actually, there were reports from inside that M21 thread about people answering 'yes he is fake' or whatever. But the actual thread was not reported itself, but people were reported for ANSWERING the OP. So quite how a thread could remain, when if people answered the question one way there were reports, I don't know?

I seem to be writing essays today, but yeah, if you want to make a thread to actually say M21 is a great member, knock yourself out.

It wasnt saying he was fake it was saying is he who he is on the forum or some sort of evil genius as I recall?

Vicky.
07-06-2018, 09:35 AM
I CBA to search for it now, but from memory it was is he an actor (oscar worthy...comes to mind?)

Edit..I searched and

Michael21 - Hilarious or Annoying? 100% Genuine, or as Fake as a Politician's Pre-Election promises? A member who kills you with laughter, or one who just murders the English language?

Who is he? What is he?

Is he for real or the brilliant comic creation of some genius who in real life probably holds a B.A. in English?

YOU decide, but for me, I think he is the Young Pretender to King Leathertrumpet's Comedy Genius Throne and he cracks me up. was the thread. If you cannot see that that is different to a thread saying you like a member. and has the potential to cause huge drama..I don't know what to say. And yes, reports came in when people answered these questions...so clearly only one answer was allowed. Oddly enough, some of the people who reported the answers are now complaining about the thread being deleted!

(I don't know if I should recreate deleted threads, probably not but it seems relevant here. Someone may delete this post soon.)

Which is basically asking if he was fake and annoying, and reports came in as soon as people said yes they thought so.

As I said, if you want to make a thread appreciating him, please do so. But don't ask any questions that could attract negative posts about him and then be reported  Like, if its a close friend of yours and you know they can take it, its a bit different...like I could make a thread asking people if they thought niamh was too old for the internet (sorry niamh, I know you hate age 'jokes') but if I made the same thread about another member it could be an issue. And even with the niamh one, if people started reporting the answers I would remove it because...whats the point

Should maybe add again, I do not think kirk meant the thread to be nasty, as thats just not kirk...but yeah, it was problematic.

My question is; did I deserve Infracting for it?

Why not just a friendly pm advising me just why such a thread wasn't such a good idea?

I have had 3 Infractions in a week and all of them are pure B.S. - In my opinion.

Kirk I specifically said (twice I think but not reading back, but it does actually say in the post you quoted) that I know you did not mean it in a bad way. However it was inviting negative posts about micahel and there were reports from the thread too which showed us the way the thread would end up.

I would not have infracted you for that, no. I would have sent a PM or maybe a warning. But I would have deleted the thread for sure.

Edit. I agree with the other infractions though, just checked them.

jet
07-06-2018, 11:24 PM
Well, threads asking is there a better forum member than Daniel X could also invite negativity like 'of course there is, he/she is a s*** member, what are you on about' (not that I know anything about Daniel at all so that is no reflection on that poster)...
So were the posters who made negative remarks about Michael infracted ...and why was Kirk infracted when it is said it is understood his thread wasn't meant in a bad way? If you wouldn't have infracted him Vicky, then why WAS he infracted? It all sounds dodgy to me.
This forum is a minefield of confusion about what is and isn't allowed and tolerated depending on the mod online at the time, it's currently an uncomfortable place to navigate re the rules which treat us a bit like like children and feels stifling to post on when one mod will do one thing and another do something else - which is why I don't bother anymore and many long time posters are losing their love for this place.

Vicky.

Because mods are human, are different people and use discretion?

Seriously do you think we all agree with each others actions constantly? I wish you could see the admin forum, really.

The only way to get totally consistent moderating is to take humans out of the equation completely. Which clearly is not a possibility. Also context and such is important too most of the time, so blanket rules would not really work.

As I said, I would not personally have given an infraction for that, however I see why the thread was removed, and I also agree with the other infractions kirk is talking about which are apparently 'BS'. So yeah, wish I had stuck to not discussing this michael thing tbh. I can see how this thread is going to go now.

Members are human too, yet they have to stick to rules and regulations or they will be punished. Fair enough..but why do mods not have rules and regulations when it comes to infractions? Members have to navigate how they word stuff to avoid being penalised, but mods can 'be human and themselves' and that's okay and they never get any infractions or bans for wrong decisions or indeed for anything that mere members get infracted for. Not getting at you here Vicky, as you are very fair...but we are ALL human, and if one person pays a price for being human, then we all should.
Unless its understood that mods are allowed that luxury and members aren't, maybe we should be told that once and for all?

I may be reading this post wrong as it can be read 2 ways that I can see, but marsh probably has more infractions than most other members put together and is regularly on long bans.

Hope you don't mind me saying this marsh, but I get quite sick of the claims that only one 'side' are ever punished and such.

I agree that sometimes people get infractions that shouldn't, and we do overturn infractions sometimes, many members can confirm that. However, the correct way to go about getting them reversed is to send a calm email to a member of staff explaining why it was wrong in your opinion..admin is better, as mods do not generally overturn each others decisions unless its clearly not deserved at all..if you PM a mod what will happen usually is a discussion will be opened up in the infraction thread (if there is not already a discussion about it, which there sometimes is) and the person who gave the infraction will explain why they did and so on. A group of people continually going on on the forum about how someone elses infraction should be overturned though? Comes across quite badly, seems in a way like you (royal you) are trying to force a reversal.. and is not going to change anyones mind.

OK, whatever you say. I am done with this conversation now anyway. Some other mod may pick it up, or admin. But its just going to be a repeat of the many threads before and I don't have the energy for it.

Edit. That came across quite snippy reading it back, I didn't mean it that way, but I am just sick of the same conversations over and over D:

To be fair i see it the other way around

Mods running to close threads the minute an argument starts like the forum will explode if we have a few rows with each other and or mods and admin never admitting faults just justifying why they did things time and again with no solutions or change suggested

(and no regular really sees this as a BB forum now)

and get infracted for arguing in threads?... no ta.

The report button is there to make mods aware of flashpoints as they aren't on every thread 24/7

why should anyone put up with abuse or be expected to argue the toss with some numpty?... no ta.

Half of that comes with members pissing their pants and reporting anyone they disagree with or dislike though, I mean didn't Vicky say that loads of people were reporting posts in the michael21 thread? And that was part of why it was closed (unless I misunderstood)

Maybe getting rid of the report button is the solution, then the mods don't have to put up with the endless complaints and everyone else is forced to tackle people head on or move on with their day and realise It's Just The Internet

Try reading my post again, I said no infractions

You don't have to put up with it, either put them straight or exit the thread - it's the internet, not real life

This forum is a minefield of confusion about what is and isn't allowed and tolerated depending on the mod online at the time, it's currently an uncomfortable place to navigate re the rules which treat us a bit like like children and feels stifling to post on when one mod will do one thing and another do something else - which is why I don't bother anymore and many long time posters are losing their love for this place.I'm getting really sick of this and this isn't just aimed at you jet this is just the post I chose to quote, its aimed members that are continually entering threads lately in a pack manner and CONSTANTLY picking at other members and/or questioning forum staff in threads, I may not be posting much but i've been seeing this far too much lately and it stops now!

Other members infractions bans etc ARE NO ONE ELSES BUSINESS, this also means you dont post in threads asking for them to be explained, attempting to kick up drama due to staff actions, blatantly bait other forum members, abuse the report system by using to both report and insult members you have a problem with at the same time... I could go on n on.

IF you have a genuine query about any staff actions that relates to you personally then contact a mod or admin and IF we think its something that needs discussed further we will reply.

I wont be posting any more warnings about this sort of behaviour so just a heads up right now that heavy infractions will be given out if this continues from here on in.

Comes across quite badly, seems in a way like you (royal you) are trying to force a reversal.. and is not going to change anyones mind.No problem at all. You're right.

Vicky, I am not getting at you, or any other mod for that matter, but the transparently obvious unequal treatment is something that has been clear to see for a while. Maybe the forum admin want it that way ... it seems they are happy with the situation as nothing has been done in months and I'm sorry, I don't swallow the too busy response as it's insulting to our intelligence.I am glad you and Jet have posted about this BOTS as I am sure some on here think it's only one or two people who are more verbal , that are irked with this, there is actually a fair few members who are not happy with certain things, just because they are quiet doesn't mean they aren't pissed off with it all, surely they can't ALL be wrong. What unequal treatment?

Be more specific?

Do you mean if two members have an argument, one is infracted and the other is not?

How would you possibly know one way or the other?

Do you have any examples?

Spot on. Apparently now those who have genuine concerns have to put up or shut up, because nothing is going to change and we just have to suck it up. If concerns had been listened to and a solution sought, then the same problem wouldn't keep coming up time and again. But the bosses have spoken and the subordinates better toe the line, do what they're told, or else they will be heavily punished. Sounds like a dictatorship now. I await my punishment.

What will be clamped down on as previously stated is members that think they are above the rules constantly bringing up problems in forum threads and causing unrest, its always been a rule that infraction queries, problems with staff etc are not brought up on the forum and instead dealt with in the proper way.
