Changes to Karma - Please read

Hi,

First off I'm pretty disappointed with some peoples reactions to the Karma. With a forum this large it's impossible to please everyone, and there has been a demand for Karma for a while.

The one thing happened that I didn't want to, in that people looked at is a popularity contest, which it isn't.

It's a new feature - people are excited about it, and it seems those who jumped on the band wagon against it didn't really give it a chance.

However I fully understand that if it's going to put people off posting, then something has to be done.

Therefore I decided to make it so you now have the option to turn Karma on or off in your profile. (Kudos to James for working hard to implement it) Heres how it works now:

Karma on: You can only give/take Karma from those people who also have it turned on in the forum.

Karma off: You no longer see the Karma buttons. People cannot give/take Karma from you. It looks like the Karma mod doesn't even exist.

To choose whether you want Karma on or off, go to your CONTROL PANEL, then press EDIT PROFILE, then scroll down until you see an option that says Turn on Karma system to rate members?

I hope everyone is happy with this change.

That's a good idea - (thanks to both Mark and James) - it always takes a while to get used to new things but I think at this stage an option is the best thing to do and it keeps everyone happy.

That's was a good choice, now hopefully people who are upset by it can use the new option and get back to normal.

Personally I'll still be using the karma, because I think it's a good way to thank people for maybe making you a banner and also if you like what someone has posted(articles/pictures). And also I was one of those who was asking for it a while ago.

I hope not too many people use the new option, because karma is meant to be a fun thing!

It's good to see democracy at work ,where it's important to sometimes act on the views of the minority, though I do think that minority should have let the majority at least have a few days to see if this could work. I don't suppose taking out the minus karma is an option ? I honestly don't recall too many new ideas working out perfectly in the first 12 hours , it just doesn't usually happen like that. Anyway, I certainly appreciate your work on all this and am up for anything new :thumbs:

i liekd the karma idea but some idiot kept taking off my karmas cause he didnt liek that i posted about something so iin about 4 days i went from 7 to 4 so i just took it off

I think we should remove the - karma and just leave the + there. Then people won't get upset.

i dont give negative karma out and I think its mean.

There are people who are on lots more posts than us B...... does thatmean we dont do good posts? Or is it about being liked?

I am sure it is about being liked. I have also said that I only give out + karma. It would make the forum a better place IMO if people didn't use negative karma. I had made a few jokes about karma lately, and therefore some members took some of mine away predictably.

I agree. Some people just take away karma because they disagree with you even if you have a perfectly valid point.
