He does a traveling show on CNN... visits places and talks about the people and food.. he visited Houston in one ep... covered immigrants, because we are an immigrant city. Lovely man.... great attitude, which is why this is so appalling... what is it about our society that ppl arent feeling they can reach out?

Yeah... I don't think people that end their lives are just statistics, though that's the tendency... they just needed support and unfortunately, some don't get the support that is needed in time before they have that moment of bad judgement... and when celebrities, etc kill themselves, it makes even less sense because theoretically you'd think with more money, more access to health care, more access to a support network, they would be less prone...

But that is the illusion isn't it? That if material prosperity and quality of life were improved, these issues would go away. Also, Americans tend to associate happiness with material prosperity and "success" socially... and that's absolutely going the wrong direction I think. It's backwards. I think the knee jerk reaction is to look at it as that type of problem, but I do think that mental health system needs improvement, if anything, to study the issues of nihilism in this country and figure out what we can do as a society to solve the issue... there's a rise in the occurrence of suicides... but those numbers don't include attempts... I wouldn't be surprised if it's far more common than people realize.

Anthony Bourdain: Talked Depression in 'Parts Unknown' ... 'I Feel Very Isolated'

**Video on source page**

Anthony Bourdain revealed he suffered from depression during a 2016 episode of 'Parts Unknown' -- in which he said something as simple as a bad burger could send him into a downward spiral.

Bourdain addressed the issue while visiting Argentina -- a country that fascinated him because it embraced psychoanalysis and mental health treatment.

The episode featured several scenes of Bourdain speaking with his therapist and addressing real issues in his life. And, even though it seems like a joke at first, it becomes clear he's not kidding around.

When asked what brought him into the office, Bourdain says ... "I will find myself in an airport, for instance, and I'll order an airport hamburger. It's an insignificant thing, it's a small thing, it's a hamburger, but it's not a good one. Suddenly I look at the hamburger and I find myself in a spiral of depression that can last for days."

He goes on to explain how he often feels alone.

"I feel kind of like a freak and I feel very isolated. I communicate for a living but I'm terrible at communicating with people I care about."

The episode ended with Bourdain saying he has positive moments too.

"There's the evil cheeseburger that sets me off. Suddenly I'm super depressed for days. It's like that with the good stuff too. I have a couple of happy minutes there where I'm thinking, life is pretty good."
