CD Projekt describes the game as a "first-person RPG."
Gameplay is in first a first-person perspective, but switched to third-person during a cutscene.
You play a character named V (as in the letter).
V can be a man or a woman.
The stats you pick at the start include Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, Reflexes, Tech, and Cool.
These stats are all pulled from the original tabletop RPG.
There are no classes at the start. Instead, you evolve the class you want to be as you play instead of picking a role.
Your apartment is a set place that fills with all of the clothes and weapons you get, though you don't have to go there to swap.
You'll be able to get more and different apartments throughout the game.
You can drive cars in the game, and seemingly toggle between first and third person during this.
While driving in first-person, the U.I. appears diegetically on the windshield.
You can engage in combat while driving -- AI took over steering as you lean out the window and shoot at enemies.
CD Projekt also described Cyberpunk as a "mature experience intended for mature audiences."
The goal is for you to not only engage with the game world, but with its inhabitants.
Like Witcher, you take missions from NPCs and have dialogue options in conversations.
It's an open world that you open up more with "street cred." For example, a specific jacket might raise it by 5%, allowing you access to new places.
Completing a quest levels up your street cred.
The UI in the demo is extremely minimal at -- just a light compass and a small quest log.
UI expands during combat -- enemies have names, health bars, and what appear to be levels.
Some enemies have question marks instead of levels, possibly meaning they're much higher level than you.
Damage numbers pop up during combat.
There's a bullet-time-like ability that allows you to slow down time.
CD Projekt keeps emphasizing that choices have consequences, in the moment and to the world at large.
Obstacles have several solutions depending on your skills. For example, V got to a door, but his hacking skill was too low. However, his engineering skill was high enough, so he could open a panel and bypass the door.
There's an inspection system lets you look super close at items and learn more about lore.
You use an inhaler to heal.
Gunplay feels slower than Doom or Borderlands, but faster than Fallout 4.
CD Projekt showed off some late-game abilities, including mantis-like blade arms and wall running.
We saw a boss fight against a dude in an exoskeleton. This included sliding under cars and taking cover.
Some new info

In a twist that will surprise literally no-one who knows of Lady Gaga’s incredible, reason-defying exploits (she did wear a dress made of meat, after all), the singer/actor/general all-around goddess has been seen at the CD Projekt Red studios, with sources saying that she did a mocap performance for Cyberpunk 2077. Just a warning: that link does direct you to the French website ActuGaming, but a Redditor has managed a rough translation of the part that refers to Lady Gaga.
According to Awkward_Bowler, the article loosely reads “sources close to the studio say she was seen there and did a mocap performance. Everything else is uncertain, but there's a good chance she's going to be in the game in some capacity”. If you ask me, Lady Gaga would be right at home in the futuristic-synthetic world of Cyberpunk 2077, and I bet she’s going to be either a superstar singer - perhaps the one from E3 2018’s teaser trailer below - or a seedy lounge singer who gives you a distinctly noir-themed mission. Bonus points if she’s smoking a cigarette in a sultry manner when you first see her.
Plus as the translation mentions a performance, she might also just be a singer at an immensely crowded concert you have to infiltrate for an unrelated mission. But c’mon, it feels like a waste to include Lady Gaga in a game without letting you at least exchange a few words with her, right? Let us know who you think she’s going to be in the comments, and just remember to keep an ear out for her unmistakable voice when the game finally releases. Not that we know when that could be. Sob.

Gaming is starting to look exciting again. I know I'm not the most well-versed on the subject but I don't think there's been anything new or interesting since... Dishonored? TLOU? So a good 5 years.
Every semi-promising teaser and trailer seems to have built up to disappointment since then

*ahem* Nier: Automata (although to be fair I acknowledge that it's niche) and also MGS: Phantom Pain would have been up there had it actually been finished, the quite glaring fact that the third act was incomplete is a major issue.
So just **** god of war then i guess
I'm immensely enjoying the story and the combat and puzzling is great fun... but... there's nothing particularly new there? Combat-with-a-li'l-buddy has been done, exploring and puzzling has been done, over-the-shoulder melee+ranged has been done A LOT...
Similarly, I loved Spider-Man this past year, and Persona, I had a great time with them, but Spider-man was by the numbers open-world Superhero done very well and Persona 5 is obviously just the lastest iteration of the classic Persona gameplay loop.
Horizon zero dawn :hmph:
Half-way on this one; I loved the game (my first ever platinum), ADORE the lore (first game I've played in ages where just reading a datapad or hearing an audio log about the history of the apocalypse was as good as the game itself) and I thought a lot of the combat was hugely innovative, but overall it was pretty standard 3rd person open world questing.
Plus all of these are 2018 and earlier, 2019 has been dry as a bone for gaming. I agree that there's finally some exciting stuff coming up worth getting hyped for :flutter:. ML2022 obviously but also, games.

Blatantly has been delayed to be a next gen launch title. Not really surprising with there only being two months between the original delayed release and next gen availability.
I'm OK with the wait but will now have to see how the versions stack up to see whether I want it on PC or PS5. PC was a no-brained over PS4. But will now depend on how well optimised it is for PC.

Actually wondering if they've been tempted into this by Sony and Mikeysoft... I'm edging towards getting this on PS5 and if its a launch title, will probably mean I get a PS5 at launch. I would otherwise have waited until there was an exclusive that I wanted.

I wouldn't mind if I thought the reason was legit but this is blatantly all mixed in up in the next gen release window. They should have just done a long delay back in April and made it a "proper" 2021 cross-gen title. The ****ing around is tedious and will damage their ability to generate any hype for future projects.

If you play it while connected to PSN/XBL it will show in your game history, so it is a little trueIn theory, if you get it early and play it offline, when you get trophies it will record the date and time which they could track. In theory. There have been quite a few copies leaked & people posting videos/spoilers, though - physical copies apparently arrived in stores as early as last week, and there's no day 1 patch. I've managed to avoid spoilerses.
On the plus side, the fact that there are physical copies in the wild means it's definitely finished and isn't going to get pushed back again at the last minute :joker:

The PS5 version disc?
is better
The PS4 version will run better on PS5, but there is no native PS5 version until next year.
ALSO they won't run better than on PC :hmph:  ... however the PS5 version will have Ray Tracing which the PC version obviously has, but I can't use it because the RTX 30-series (graphics cards) is suffering the same issue as consoles - i.e. you can't ****ing buy one anywhere so I don't have a card that can do RT yet :bawling:.
The game's obviously going to be great - and I get that it's just symptomatic of how the industry operates nowadays - but cueing up the video reviews only to be told in them that the journalists could only show CD Projekt's own footage was a let off. And then at the same time I wish they'd actually kept more of their cards to their chest, belaboured development cycle and all. Has any game ever had as many dev videos, behind the scenes, extended playthroughs and trailers? It actually feels overexposed and it's not even out yet. I can't help but feel Night City would have had more wow factor if we were more blind to it going in.
Tom4784
08-12-2020, 02:35 PM
The reviews seem mostly stellar as expected with common complaints levelled at most open world games in that it's incredibly buggy.
I'll probably get it at some point this month but I may wait to see if the patches help it out much, I'm pretty sure they've already said that the upgrade to PS5 will be free so if it plays well on PS4, I'll bite the bullet and go for it.
Is this going to sell out asap or can I walk into a store on Saturday and pick up one up without ordering?

Is this going to sell out asap or can I walk into a store on Saturday and pick up one up without ordering?Supply isn't usually a problem with games (discs are easy to manufacture) so you'll probably be able to get it wherever. It's likely to be the "featured" game at supermarkets for a bit (the one they have a little stand for near the entrance).
Though I'm a fan of digital download anyway so if worst comes to worst you can always just get it on PlayStation store/Xbox Live/Steam etc. Unlimited supply :hee:

This seems like another one of those games (like LoU II) that some people seem to hate with a vengance (not sure why)Isn't everything these days :joker:. I've learned to take it with a pinch of salt; two of my favourite games from the last year and what I consider to be two of the best games of the entire gen (TLOU2 and Death Stranding) were extremely divisive.
I'm also one of the freaks who really enjoyed "Days Gone" and it got an absolute boatload of hate :umm2:.

user104658
10-12-2020, 12:03 AM
Oh, I'll have to try out Days Gone, its on the PS+ CollectionThe main issue is it being a slow burn - the most fun things in the game are the massive hoards, the better weapons gameplay, like napalm, and riding the bike... The big hoards don't come until the second half of the game, you don't get the really fun weapons (heavy machine gun... And NAPALM!) until then either, and also the bike riding is at its best when the bike is fully upgraded which you can't do until you reach the second large area.
Some of those huge hoard battles are an absolute riot, though. There's a hoard in an abandonned mine that I stumbled across completely by accident and I've never "run so fast" in a game ever. I properly crapped myself, haha.
I also enjoy the storyline. It's not exactly TLOU but it's fun enough once it gets going... Again it's a slow burn and doesn't pick up until the second half.
Fair warning though; the forced stealth sections are trash. Just... Trash. Really awful. Using "optional" stealth to clear out small locations is fine and quite fun so it's not even the actual stealth mechanics - the forced sections are just really badly scripted and not fun. Thankfully, there are very few.

The Xbone and PS4 versions are going to suffer, I could have told you that pre-release. It's a first-person game running at 30fps, for a start. And it's clearly optimised for next gen... so the textures are going to be a mess. In all honestly I think they probably A) Would have like to have pushed it back even further (to next spring) and B) Didn't foresee the supply problems and thought more people would have next-gen consoles by this month. I honestly think it'll be borderline unplayable on the base model last gen consoles. PS4 pro and Xbone X might fare better. But yeah, you want a PS5, Series X or PC for this tbh. It's just not a last-gen title. It reminds me of when they released some hilariously ugly, choppy, downscaled PS3 titles on the PS2.
PC MASTER RACE . I'll let you know how it runs on a half-decent gaming PC later. It dropped a 10gb download on me this morning on top of the preload :oh:. Would usually have downloaded overnight but we had a bloody powercut here at about 11pm last night and I forgot to turn the PC back on.

It started development before the PS4 launched and was heavily marketed for it. Regardless of its obviously belaboured development cycle, this is a current/old gen game.
My current setup is a Ryzen 5 and RX560X. Not the meatiest gaming laptop in the world, but should still run it better than the base consoles after a few more patches, hopefully :hee:

It was until last April when they decided to pretend it wasn't finished so that they could future-proof it. It was pretty thinly-veiled IMO, they decided to make it (in spirit) an early-gen PS5 title rather than a late-gen PS4... and they've optimised with that in mind.
I've seen some PC gameplay from a preview review and it looks like it runs well on PC - but I think the reviewer was rockin' a 3090 sooo we'll see how my 1080ti holds up :umm2:. In theory 60+fps on high should be very possible... it generally matches a 2080 once you take Ray Tracing out of the equation. I just want nVidia to pull their finger out and get some 3080's back in stores :bawling:.

I think those baseline console versions are running "PC minimum" (aka "potato") settings... not even "recommended". That's pretty bad to be honest. I'm not convinced it's a good move for the company at all even if the game "as it's meant to be played" is great... especially when most people who thought they would have a next-gen console by now will be begrudgingly playing it on The Little PS4 That Could.

So for a quick first impressions update; framerate is fine (but I had to lock it at 60, which stings as I've gotten used to first person @144)... had to mix up the settings between medium and high but runs fine with shadow distance and quality all on high and textures on max (most important settings, IMO).
Cons;
- Framerate tanks when you look in a mirror. I think that's a patch issue. Also probably not an issue if you have RT as it'll handle reflections differently.
- It has some sort of weird ****ing mouse smoothing that you can't turn off. WHY. WHEN will developers learn that PC players don't want mouse smoothing??? Sigh. Someone will mod out/find a setting hidden in the code for that within the next few days, no doubt. But it sucks. Feels like moving the mouse through syrup, to the point where I'm almost tempted to use a controller like some dirty console n00b :hmph:
user104658

Promised performance update:
It runs fine out of combat but in combat was dropping to 35 - 40 fps even on low settings (which look horrible - this is def what the OG consoles are using). Weirdly though, putting to a mix of medium and high only drops the average by 2 or 3 frames which makes very little sense.
Dropped down to 1080p and getting a steady 60 - 70fps with everything on ultra, even during intense scenes... so, that's what we're going with for now. ... it'll do ... it's weird going back to antialiasing to get rid of jaggies in 2020, and the menus look a bit off, but the game looks (far, far) better on ultra @1080p than it does on medium @1440, and plays nice 'n' smooth sobut overall verdict is that you need an RTX for this to be comfortably playable above 1080. Probably at least a 3080 for 4k.
Which makes me think it'll look OK on the 4Pro and OneX ***i******* they have a performance option to run at 1080p. Knowing what the console market is like, though, it might be locked at 4k in which case I have to say I can only see it running like trash. This needs some serious beef to run at 4k.
I really want my 3080 :bawling:. BUT we shall forge on with 1080p :joker:. If I take off my glasses I can't even tell, heh.

OH, also, by default for some bizarre reason it has post processing that makes it look slightly muddy, which I have removed with ReShade and the colours look so much better with it off. So... again... sux 2 be console I guess, you're stuck with that.

The reshade doesn't affect performance, in any way. Am I over-reacting? It's comparatively so ugly and I can't figure out why they would do this
ALSO, the game has no anti-aliasing options by default, I had to force it in nVidia Control Panel. Best guess is that this is because AA doesn't play well with HDR so they've removed the option entirely... expecting the status quo to be 4k+HDR when no one actually has the graphics horsepower to run that.
I reiterate what I said earlier; they've made and released a game that will run well and look amazing on next-gen consoles and 2021-and-beyond gaming PC's (RTX30-series+) and released it for the current gen. I think it might tank reviews tbqfh, most people are nowhere near geeky & patient enough to go through all of this optimising.
On the bright side, I've not had this much fun tweaking a game to run well since Fallout 4 :joker:. At some point I should get on with playing the game...

I think the framerate drops in combat combined with it being first-person-shooting would make it extremely difficult to play on base console... the enemies thus far have been a bit bullet-spongey if you can't hit headshots combat would be tedious (not in a bad way necessarily, they are wearing padding/body armour so it's not unrealistic that headshots do a lot more damage than centre mass)

To be fair in 3 hours of gameplay I've not had a HUGE number of bugs/glitches and they were both pretty funny. There was the sitting fella above, and I also had a corpse start breakdancing, but that's it so far. It needs some patching but it's not mammoths falling from the sky or anything.

In all honesty I think as great as the game is so far the launch is a disaster... I stand by what I said above; they've made a next gen game and pushed it out on old hardware. They should have delayed for a full year back in April and just made it a next gen title.
I've given up on getting it to run at 1440p even on low settings... To do it with all the settings turned up, it clearly needs an RTX3080. It's an amazing looking game even at 1080p, and runs well at that res, but like I said earlier, stepping back down to 1080p sort of feels like going back a couple of years. It's also not my monitor's native res so it makes text look a little fuzzy. I'm actually considering hooking up my old 1080p monitor :joker:.

I've played about 4 hours I'd say (steam says 7 but I swear a full 3 hours was spent tweaking the damn thing :joker: ) and I have to admit I was worried at first BUT the last three hours or so have been an absolute blast. I've not even gone on the first proper mission after the intro yet, just been ****ing around doing side missions and bounties... but even those FEEL like actual missions. I also did one of the "psycho" missions where the enemy is heavily tech augmented and it was awesome, they were zipping around the place so fast and I couldn't hit them with a gun, so it ended up being a katana fight. I strongly feel that it's going to be excellent. At this point my only gripes are;
- Bugs. Most are funny/not a problem (see below for example) but I did have one game breaking bug. Not hugely so - just a stuck quest and thankfully all you have to do to fix it is quicksave and reload the save - but still.
Car spawn bug:
https://i.imgur.com/eIAWFVZ.jpg
The damn thing spawned like this! And there's nothing you can do to right it - you just have to run out of range and summon it again
- It feels poorly optimised. The graphics are amazing, yes, and for their full potential I can see why it needs hefty hardware HOWEVER it's not so far beyond recent titles that it explains the performance issues. That said, after a couple of hours I completely stopped noticing that I'm playing at 1080p (it's not that long ago that all games were, after all) and it was definitely worth the trade off for 60fps. But yeah - I feel like it should have better framerates for the visuals I'm seeing, I don't get why it's struggling so much, or why it totally flatlines on OG consoles. This gripe is nothing to do with the quality of the game of course and it's a "temporary" problem - in a couple of years people will have forgotten that it was ever hard to run.
- 3rd is a minor PC gripe... cars are bordering on impossible to drive with keyboard & mouse :fist:. Luckily controls hotswitch to whichever you press... so I have a controller sat next to the keyboard that's purely for driving :joker:
I'd struggle with this if I was a reviewer I think. On the one hand the game itself, taken in isolation, e.g. if you were playing it on a bleeding-edge PC with ray tracing, is genuinely brilliant, both gameplay and how it looks. On the other hand the technical problems are beyond anything we've seen in recent years and a lot of people (baseline console owners and PC players with anything less than a GTX1080) are going to have found themselves very dissapointed yesterday morning.
They should have been honest and just said that despite their best efforts, the game simply doesn't work on the baseline consoles.

It's not really like that to be fair (from what I know of them so far anyway) - the nomads aren't primitive or tribal or anything, they're essentially just people who don't live in the city... Having sort of rejected the whole "corporate lifestyle" and preferring to live free (but poor) outside the city limits. As far as I understand it that is. I'm basically still at the beginning because I've just been driving around and doing side quests and bounties and stuff. I'm sure there's plenty of lore to come throughout the game!
However I thoroughly recommend giving blades a go because the most fun I've had in the game thus far was hunting down a bounty in his night club, which I went through at speed using just a katana. It was so brutal... heads and limbs everywhere [emoji23]. And that's without any of the melee perks or upgrades yet, I think it'll be a blast with augments.

There's no multiplayer, whether it's worth a purchase is a multi-layered answer...
1) It is a fantastic game so if you have a recent gaming PC, PS5 or Series X - YES absolutely.
2) If you have an Xbone X or a PS4-Pro and don't mind framerate drops in a game that has first person shooting mechanics for combat, then still yes (though I consider this sociopathy)
3) If you have an OG PS4 or Xbox One, or a PC with anything less than a recent i7 and a GTX1080ti, I'd have to say no. It has (massive) optimisation issues at present and just isn't functional sadly. Might improve with patches... probs not much... I think they'll just rely on the fact that it'll run like a dream on up to date PC's and next-gen consoles once they optimise the "proper" next gen version.
[edit to add]
I just remember that you had or have a PS5? If you're interested or not gasping to play it, I would advise waiting for the "real" PS5 version which is likely to be Q1 2021, almost certainly worth holding out for the "best" experience unless you're itching for it. I think it's a free upgrade anyway... but if you can wait, might as well start out with the better version.
I'm well into it now but lowkey wish I had waited until I have a RTX3080 because from what I've seen, it looks stunning with Ray Tracing.

Yeah, I have my new/new PS5 now, happily working as intended.

The only 3rd person elements are driving. Bizarrely, there's a (very*) detailed character customization at the beginning and a tonne of clothing/armor options but the only time you actually see your guy is on the inventory screen and if you're riding a motorbike .

It's not my favourite genre in general, I tend to much prefer 3rd person, but it's definitely an RPG not a Shooter - it plays like a more refined/tighter/more story driven Fallout or Elder Scrolls basically. But yeah like I said, if you're not itching to play I would possibly not only wait for PS5 version, but maybe even an inevitable GOTY version with bugs ironed out and inevitable DLC... it's a great game but the "definitive" version of it is most likely a year+ away.

Heh, so in a weird twist of events a local retailer got a dozen Series S in stock. The sudden realisation that I've never seen a game in 4K and never need to coupled with the fact that I'm a-OK with Game Pass/no physical media and the - well - insanely low cost price of the unit meant I snapped it up completely impromptu.
Seriously impressive bit of kit. It's perfect for what I want in a game console for someone who just dips in obsessively for a few weeks then goes half a year without buying a new title. Instant on, instant off. Got my OG Saints Row, Crackdown, Oblivion etc all upscaled.
I digress, though. Took Cyberpunk for a ride on it.
This is the weirdest ****ing game I've ever played from a technical standpoint. Took ages to get to free roaming but as soon as I did, I wasn't quite sure what was happening.
Confident enough in the Series S hardware - and having seen the Digital Foundry videos - that what I'm running is on par with a mid-high range gaming PC. It's so...weird though.
One minute it looks like the most ambitious, ballsy game world I've ever seen. The next it looks like something I'm not meant to be playing yet. It makes it oddly fun. It goes from wow to ugly faster than any game I've ever seen.
Oh well. 10/10 for fun so far. The corpo floating taxi to the club really felt proper like "There's never been a game like this before, this is new gen."
Then I punched a dude selling noodles in the jaw and his pelvis vibrated into the floor and made the road flicker.

There's allegedly a large patch dropping in early Jan that should increase performance on the OG consoles and fix a lot of bugs/glitches. I haven't encountered any thing too glaring though still. The biggest was the dead guy spinning round the room (the guy you kill just before getting the girl out of the tub on the very first mission) but nothing like that has happened since and it was right at the beginning. And also, funny.
I did get the "talk to viktor" bug which is technically game breaking but thankfully I clocked it as a bug and looked up the fix straight away. Basically, the game gets stuck on the "talk to viktor" quest checkbox permanently. The fix is simple, you just quicksave and reload, and it will flag as complete and you carry on... The issue is, all of the various little side quests open up at this point, and one of the dialogue options is to pay off the surgery debt. So apparently, a lot of people went off I to the world, thinking you had to grind side quests until you could afford to pay him... Which isn't that hard... You can do it in maybe an hour or two... Except that when you go back to pay him, it doesn't fix the bug, and the dave/reload method no longer fixes it. So you have to reload the earlier save and lose anything you did when off earning the money to pay him. And if you've saved over that save... You have to restart. Not a huge issue I guess as its so close to the beginning, but yeah... I'm glad I sussed it as a bug and googled :joker:.

There was one side mission where there was a sub-request to leave the target alive so I assume maybe I got more dollah for not slicing him up.
But in general I've found that assault rifle at range (more open areas) and katana close quarters (in buildings etc... Stairways can be a choke point massacre of severed limbs lol) has been working well for me.

Sony have removed it from the PS Store and are offering full refunds...
I really dont get the backlash
Apparently the PS4 version has some serious issues for some people - although it's odd that it's not everyone given that it's the same hardware. If Scott can play it on his old toaster why can't everyone...
HOWEVER - yes - from videos I've seen it's not just poor framerates and graphical glitches... there are incidents where world assets don't load in (usually while driving_ and people simply fall through the bottom of the map, tumbling forever into an endless void :omgno:. I think the tl;dr of it is that the game was built for SSD loading times and the older consoles don't have 'em ... the PC version installation actually came with a little "highly recommended" warning tag for installing to an SSD. Luckily I got an an m.2 nVME back in the summer :smug: (the "super fast SSDs" that the new consoles use).
I think the sad reality is that it's borderline unplayable on old tech. I know some people are fine with it on PS4 Pro and One X but even then I hear it runs at 30fps with framerate drops into the low 20's... I know some people don't mind that but yeah... I am one of those people who wouldn't be able to play at that. I wouldn't refund, to be fair - but I'd be shelving it until the PS5.
It's a damn shame because having now got it running extremely well at a solid 60fps (static res scaling was the KEY guys :D ) - it is an absolutely brilliant game. I think in a couple of years it'll be widely hailed as a masterpiece. But the technical issues are a disaster, they really are... it was unplayable on my PC when I first booted it up and took 3 hours of tinkering to get it running "ok" and then literally a week of stopping, thinking and tweaking settings to get it looking genuinely impressive. I am a massive tech geek so I actually really enjoyed that - it made me nostalgic, took me back to the 90's and spending all day trying to get drivers to load up properly to run games in MS Dos with sounds and mouse working properly... you got it working and felt like you had "won"... but I am surely in the minority in enjoying the tinkering. Most people will find it frustrating at best, and many will simply give up on it as a lost cause.
Basically... the game only works acceptable "out of the box" on next gen consoles, and RTX30-series card on PC... ... with the double-whammy being that no one can buy those even if they want to right now. Console launch has been a disaster and no one has been able to get an RTX (without paying double to an eBay scalper) since about a week after they launched in like September :umm2:.
If the game only works (well) out the box for what... maybe 10% of players... they really have no choice but to offer refunds. I have faith that they will fix it though and that eventually the game itself will shine through.
Scarlett.

The SSD's are a game-changer, hard drive loading times have been holding back games development for half-a-gen at this point. SSD use has been commonplace on PC for at least 3/4 years now and I believe it's even possible to stick one in the Pro, but developers are obviously limited by what "most people have" so things like texture and other asset loading speeds are limited to "old school" hard drive speeds for multi-platform games.
I think it may well be what's caused all of the Cyberpunk delays. I reckon they've been developing on SSDs and possibly that the console dev machines they've been playing on for most of the development have had them, and then they've moved on to testing on retail consoles and been like "Oh... oh **** guys... it doesn't work without an SSD" and they've been scrabbling around and delaying to get it to run acceptably, when the reality may be that it just... doesn't. I dunno how they can fix it without massively compressing the textures and assets which will make the game look like COD on the 360 or something. I dunno. It's a gorgeous game when it's running properly but good looking games running in potato mode actually look WORSE than games that were designed to run on old hardware.
CDPR is primarily a PC developer... they are relative n00bs to console dev. So yeah I reckon they've developed to "default SSD" and it's burned them. I guess compare to something like TLOU2 - with Naughty Dog being a seasoned console focussed developer.
All of that said - I think it will be less of an issue once this gen is in full swing, console tech is pretty much just specialised PC tech at this point.

I agree, I think the step up will be more comparable to the jump from PSX -> PS2 than either PS2 -> 3 or PS3 -> 4.

It shouldn't have been released if it wasn't working on base consoles. I'm enjoying it a lot since I've encountered nothing I wouldn't see in an Elder Scrolls game in terms of bugs, but I do feel bad for people who don't have access to Pros or next gen. It's genuinely quite scummy of CD to do what they've done here.

Weeell, I don't agree that it shouldn't have been released AT ALL but I do agree that they should have been honest about the hardware requirements. Selfishly I'm glad to have it now on PC and loving it but from a more objective point of view, they should have delayed until maybe May (not another in the line of delays; when it didn't hit the first deadline they should have delayed a full year) and just said "The project ended up too ambitious for last gen and its now a next gen + PC title".
I guess they could even have released a "Pro/One X only" digital version with a clear caveat that it's only for enthusiasts who can't wait, and isn't the intended experience.
I think they were also slightly dishonest about the PC requirements too because looking at what they're advertising as "minimum"... I can't see it running on that hardware even on rock bottom settings and having a properly playable framerate. You really need 60fps for keyboard and mouse gameplay. Locked at 30 would probably be OK if you used a controller but no PC gamer wants to play a first person game with a controller...
Realistic requirements for this are GTX1070 for minimum, GTX1080Ti for recommended/high at 1080p (what I'm running currently) and for ultra settings/ANYTHING at 4k or even 1440p you need an RTX card (so a 2019/2020 graphics card). That's not what their system requirements blurb says and it does seem a little disappointingly dishonest.
All of that said; I guess people have short memories because Witcher 3 was a tough game to run on release-era hardware as well, and Witcher 2 was even worse (I remember NO ONE being able to run it at the time with Godrays turned on :joker: ). I guess CDPR have a habit of releasing games that people have to run on medium settings and you only get to see "in their full glory" a couple of years post release.
Everyone will be running Cyberpunk on Ultra settings at 4k no problem, and bug-free, probably with a tonne of DLC and extra content... In like 2022.
I wish I had the willpower to wait for such things but I just don't, haha.

17 gig! :joker:
Honestly I've had very few bugs... nothing major either. I did have an odd glitch last night where my heath bar just totally disappeared... but I played on for ages just judging my health based on the screen effects :joker:. It was back where it belongs on reloading the game anyway.
There are a few minor things that need polishing (like one of the Delamain cars crashing into a shed and a full 3 seconds passing before the shed was smashed  ). I dunno. I reckon anyone who has extensively played Elder Scrolls/Bethesda Fallout couldn't possibly be bothered by these relatively minor things... and SURELY that's the audience Cyberpunk is aimed at? Unless a lot of people have gone in expecting a polished on-rails Shooter and now have no idea what they're looking at?

Yeah, on PS5 I've encountered minimal bugs too. The game is looking a lot sharper and nicer, and the HDR is working much better now

I've only had two major bugs so far, one was a cyberpsycho disappearing into the ground so I couldn't beat her and the other was in the hotel mission where a guard i needed to kill disappeared out of bounds.
The rest has just been minor visual bugs really.

I did ALMOST have a similar issue with a kill-for-quest-required NPC glitching through the floor, but luckily his head kept clipping just slightly through the floor every few seconds so I could shoot it :joker:. Obviously couldn't loot whatever he was carrying and I think it was purple, so that was a little annoying, but at least he only needed to die for the quest to end.

I’m level 20 intelligence and i’ve almost maxed out the quickhack skill tree but it’s lowkey boring me coz i have epic quickhacks so i literally just have to open the scanner and use either overheat/contagion/short circuit on enemies and they’re out in seconds
Plus most of the time you can do it from stealth so i’m undetected like i’m basically unstoppable and i’m playing on hard but there’s no difficulty whatsoever so i think i’m gonna start using mantis blades
I say there’s no difficulty but i’ve only been doing side gigs marked as moderate danger or below, like 50% of the map is stuffed full of side gigs with very high danger

Honestly don’t believe some of these glitches and bugs im seeing online. I’ve only had the odd bug which is far from game breaking or anything and the game only ever crashes on me once. Maybe I’m just lucky.
My main disappointment is the graphic downgrade from what it looked like it may be, but that doesn’t take away from the fun gameplay at all.

... There's just the minor issue of hardly anyone having the tech to run those settings, and there being nowhere to buy it even if you have the cash to burn.

That said, I do think it's a bit disingenuous to advertise a multiplatform game using footage captured on a £3000 PC. They should advertise using "console settings" (usually PC "medium").

https://media.tenor.com/images/b241a9ab83bea3d7217ad1e20d5cd428/tenor.gifI have noticed a lack of a "challenging" difficulty actually. The main missions are by and large decently balanced so long as you don't play them too over levelled... But the side gigs, the moderate ones are easy (can still be fun as a bit of power fantasy lol) but then the "very high" danger ones can be too far the other way (getting killed in one or two hits). I've done a few but the only viable way to do them is to "divide and conquer" by luring people away one at a time to take on one on one, OR hide behind something and spam grenades everywhere.
And to be fair... I haven't really tried stealth/hacking tactics much.

I accidentally ran into a Very Hard gig without realising yesterday, I shot someone in the face with a sniper rifle and it did nothing, I ran away pretty quickly.

I accidentally ran into a Very Hard gig without realising yesterday, I shot someone in the face with a sniper rifle and it did nothing, I ran away pretty quickly.I went into my first one by accident too but became determined to finish it... Had quicksaved right next to it... So I did it like 9 times until I killed them all :joker:. I eventually did it by luring them one at a time down an alleyway into an open garage and then just going ham on them with my katana - as they repeatedly get staggered so they can't really fight back (and no ammo limitations). It took forever to kill 8 guys though.
The benefit obviously is that they drop higher-level loot and, while most of it you can't actually use, you can break it all down for those precious parts.
Also because the skills system is partially "per use" like Skyrim, I got loads of Blades experience since it took over 50 cuts to down each guy :umm2:

No cause i’m obsessed with takemura
brought it got it delivered on release date played it for a few days and haven't gone back to it
just the biggest disappointment i have had video games wise, couldn't be doing with all the glitches and crashes at all, i had one where i was driving on the motorway and just fall through the road and died, driving around for a while as well the map doesn't really seem that creative? like every place looks the same and no identity for different places its just very underwhelming, shame really because i actually like most of the characters in the early parts i played.

I have to admit I've more or less decided to shelve it for a while. I like it, I haven't had any major bugs or glitches really but I just get the very strong impression that it's going to be a much better game in a year+. Not just in having the hardware to run it on higher settings, but I suspect once they've fixed the basics there are going to be some major gameplay/AI tweaks as well, and most likely story DLC... And as I just don't have the time to play a game through more than once these days... I feel like reluctant patience is the right move here.

I completed it. Despite the bugs, it's a solid 8/10, and when they actually get it in a working state for all platforms and iron out those bugs, it'll probably be a classic.
It does have issues aside from the bugs though, you can really feel, while playing, that there's a lot that's been cut from the game. The main story reaches an abrupt conclusion, like I was shocked when I reached the point of no return since I thought I had hours of story left and other optional storylines seem to fizzle out with no pay-off, but still, it's a pretty damn good game, and one I'll probably play again once the PS5 upgrade is out and the game is fixed.

Only real issue with the story I have is that the whole montage thing with Jackie should have been playable to some extent. As a Nomad it felt like I suddenly went from being completely new to the city, to having these connections. Definitely should have been more T Bug/Jackie misssions and gigs.

Like what was the point of that :skull:

Yeah, that's what sprung to mind, and the stuff with Lizzy Wizzy. It just ended so suddenly when other characters got a complete arc. You can definitely tell they were meant to go somewhere but then nothing happens with them at all. It's disappointing because a lot of the questlines that are actually complete are pretty great.

Extensive story DLC is more or less certain with it being CDPR... assuming they've not been crippled by all of the bad PR lately :worry:... but yeah, I have repeatedly had the impression that, despite all of the delays, the game was still under-baked. I feel like their major error to be honest was simply in officially announcing it too early... no one would have taken issue with it being released in late 2021 or even into 2022 if they had only announced it in, say, 2017/2018... but they announced way back in 2012 and were dropping teasers as early as 2013 and I feel like that's why the delays were starting to be seen as "silly" and they had to rush a launch. I feel like FFXV suffered exactly the same fate - what was there was excellent but you could "see the edges" of the cut content, constantly.
I'm in an odd position with this one. I've stopped playing even though I was enjoying it immensely. I just get the OVERWHELMING impression that there's an even better experience in there with patches, story DLC, and on the "intended hardware" (which is blatantly next gen consoles/RTX cards on PC) so I've made the painful decision to shelve it, possibly for quite a while, to wait for that experience.

They'll be in for a rough time if the story DLC happens to cover the plotlines that fizzed out in the main game. It seems like an easy way for people to claim that they cut parts of the game just to sell as DLC later.

True, but the original Witcher 3 content did drop heavy links to the DLC content as well so I think it's a definite possibility... especially as when they actually made it, they were still riding high on their Witcher 3 reputation and wouldn't have been as worried about backlash as they must be now.
