I guess they will put him on a Plane back to the UK.

Holding a Big Sign on his arrest.
He was asking for trouble.

Events are the best place to protest tbf. Today for example there's a protest going on in Cork to try to stop an Incinerator being built, it's on specifically today because Prince Charles and Camilla are visiting so there will be a lot of media coverage around that area.......... it's the smart way to protest

Smart though because with all the worlds cameras on them he's alot less likely to get a beating for protesting something like this

Too irked to be sarcastic. This guy has given his whole life to fight for equality and human rights, refused money and honours, got beaten countless times.
Pure venom and casual nastiness of some never fails to astound

Yeah, it's right on the harbour in Ringaskiddy, close to where I live as well, close to lots of residential areas They've actually been trying to get planning permission for it for 17 years and just had it granted so there's going to be appeals now on that. I don't understand how they got it (well I do but you know) it's on a site right next to the naval base in Haulbowline which apparently might have to close because of it, a state run facility being closed by a private company??? somethings rotten in Denmark

Tatchell certainly is fervent about what he believes and like Niamh said, the world's press are in attendance, so probably the best place for a protest. However... while I admire many of the stances he takes, Peter Tatchell and the OutRage! have in the past made it their business to 'out' gay people in the public eye... politicians, clergy... whether they wanted their business broadcast, or not.

He was wrong about that. Doesn't change his otherwise tremendous record.

sounds like someone got a massive backhander, I know they have to put these things somewhere but in a residential area is very suspect

Agree. He was impatient and frustrated that some who were secretly gay did not support gay rights in public. He's matured as a campaigner since then.

and how many posting on this thread have been to Russia and can speak from experience rather than hearsay?

As a straight bloke who has visited there many times, i have seen many openly gay female and male couples who are perfectly accepted and don't have any issues. That's my experience. Russia is a huge country and there may be problems in some parts, I can believe that, but I haven't witnessed it.

Twosugars

Yes if you are Gay in Russia
keep it secret.
As its illegal.

You have to Respect Russia's Law.
This is how the World Works.

Bollox. Law can be wrong and should be changed. Otherwise we'd never have progress
With your argument we'd have no suffragettes or black civil rights movement

whilst I admire PT and what he has achieved you also have to realise that holding a WC in Russia will do so much more for this cause as it helps Russians see other cultures and people and opens their minds to the possibility that their way may not be the best.

Russia is beyond redemption under Putin. He rigged the elections, there was evidence on TV for everyone to see! They didn't even bother trying to hide it because they did what they always do... they denied it. Putin's main opponent wasn't allowed to stand, they have MASSIVE problems with organised crime and homophobia is on the rise. I mean... the evidence against Putin is there and yet people are still buying his bullsh*t?!?!?

The World Cup does give the world a window on Russia. What a good job Putin had enough money to make sure FIFA saw it the same way.
