My mother got mother or mam. Used to call her by her first name as I got older.
I am mam or Mammy.

?? ... since when has calling someone 'mum' been childish..

I could talk to someone new and say "I went round to danis (example) yet would they know who Dani is ?

Yet if you said 'i went round to my mums" they would understand you

Plus everyone I know says 'my mum' not just 'mum'
