View Full Version : England support..

This is the first World Cup for a few years where I haven't seen flags flying from cars etc in support of our team in the World Cup.
I know this is a new phase for our national team...a bold move by our new manager to create a new team of young talent. I admire him for doing that...but where is the support?...where are the flags??

I think some people are a little worried that they will told to remove them. There were 2 separate stories on my FB feed yesterday of people having those car flags and getting stopped by police and told to remove them. Obviously not sure if they are true but if people read that kind of thing then its like why would they bother?

I love to see the flags in support , it's only for a short time,I have seen a couple from windows but none on cars, it has been dubbed down years ago there was amazing support and atmosphere , now people can't say or do anything without certain people interfering.
Mine is up, flying high and proud

i wish you guys the best for tonight's match

I think people are fed up of the England team's lack of effort in major competitions, and the poor finishes in these competitions.
I personally have got an England shirt that I'm planning on wearing today, but I can't blame people for feeling disillusioned with the England Football team.

If that story is true then that is the real definition of PC gone mad.
There is nothing wrong with displaying your nation's flag, every country around the world does it so why is it always so controversial for England to do the same thing?

there is nothing wrong with displaying a flag, but on a car it is a distraction that causes accidents. Nothing distracting is allowed on the road.

This seems very odd and I am not sure I believe it, I have noticed the supermarkets aren't stocking the car flags so maybe that might be once of the reasons

I have seen a few on cars and vans and all the pubs and quite a lot of the shops have them. But lets be honest enjkand dont progress anywhere in the world cup. So its a faff putting them up and a waste of money plus its embarrassing when they go out of the world cup and you jave to take them down
I never support england i always pick a different country
Last time it was sweden
The time before brazil
This time spain

Most pubs up here have the full display of flags out front but it must be that the string that affixes the England ones have been very flimsy as i keep seeing pubs with all flags displayed apart from the England one that must have blown away?

*What some people CHOOSE to feel because they want to be victims.
Ain't nobody going to get arrested or stopped for having the England flag on display unless it's a Health or Safety issue.
The Royal Mail example is a weak one. It's a place of work and it's employees are using company owned vans and vehicles. Not many companies allow for it's employees to display agendas of any kind on company time.

Well I'm half Irish and will be supporting England, unlike Cherie,I would still support them if Ireland qualified, I also support Scotland when we aren't in it,but I know the Scots will support anyone but England, people are petty sometimes.

Any self respecting Englishman I imagine
Oh so you have no respect if you support the home teams, I see....
makes me laugh because people will follow their club team with all nationalities and not blink an eye at it, its all kinds of stupid
It's not really about nationality though, it's just rivalry in the same way that most Man United fans were hoping for Madrid to beat Liverpool in the Champions League. You get some people who say 'you should always support the English team' etc. just as you get people who say you should always support any home nation team but I never buy into that really. By the same token I think it's a bit pathetic when England fans get all moany about Scots saying 'anyone but England', I've no problem with that
Niamh.

I support England as I'm very proud to be English ( Im not British I'm English ) I think people from the home nations who don't support them are just bitter and jealous that their team never qualified ,those sour grapes are swines to swallow,If by any chance England hadn't got through I would have got behind Scotland,Ireland or Wales if they had qualified and we hadn't (Not much chance of that happening :joker: )

when are Ireland playing :dance:There was a World cup last year, Ireland was in that, they did ok and played well but they don't stand any chance of beating the likes of Australia, New Zealand or England at the moment, like they do in Rugby Union, they're more of an emerging nation in Rugby League.
England reached the World cup final, not that anybody would have known, it's far too much of a working class Northern sport for the people who run the national media.

I don’t think that’s accurate, plenty of patriots avoid the flag because it unfortunately has several negative connotations now. People will just assume I’m having a meltdown about Tommy Robinson or Muslims existing if I put a flag out my window.

It was a great performance off England today.
If we can just draw with Belgium (which I know won't be easy) then this will be our best start to the World Cup in years.
We will have to prepare ourselves though that it will be much tougher than Panama Rugby Team.
