[Several people are dead after a shooting at a newspaper office in Maryland, according to US media reports.
Multiple people have been shot at The Capital newspaper in Annapolis and police are searching the evacuated building,
describing the situation as "active and ongoing".
One report says the gunman has been caught but Anne Arundel Police said on Twitter that the shooter was still active.]

How awful.
Oh wow... Maryland. My husband's family is from there and we keep in touch with close there daily...
Also, kind of creepy, but I typed in Google maps site into my browser (I don't use it for search) and put in Annapolis so I could remember where it was located (I wasn't 100% sure)... and there it is a bull's eye for the shooting on the map...

I rode with my husband there one time (can't remember the reason, but probably work-related), and it is a nice quiet mini-city...
Horrifying, and yet somehow the inevitable consequence of the public being told that the press are the enemy of the people on a daily basis
RIP to those killed for doing their service

What the actual **** is wrong with America?
What the actual **** is wrong with America?
It could be the result of increasing rhetoric I think, particularly with us being months away from the November election. Our politics is becoming more volatile and reminds me of the 2016 elections... That could be a culprit, but we don't really know why yet the shooting had occurred, what the motive actually is... we assumed the worst with the Youtube shooting, for example, and it ended up being a lady angry at Youtube for demonetizing her videos.
Annapolis isn't exactly "close" to MD/Baltimore... I've never heard of the Capital Gazette, so I don't who their audience is. I wouldn't say they are prominent there. I thought maybe "capital" could mean they cater to DC folk, but probably returning to Annapolis being the state capitol... there is a large military/intelligence presence there, but that's all I can recall at this moment.
They're already trying to pin it on Milo.

“I can’t wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down on sight,” the right-wing nationalist told Observer over text message, in response to a longer feature in development about an Upper East Side restaurant he is said to frequent.

That's really ****ed up, but not surprising coming from Milo as he has literally built his fame on top of incendiary language and extreme rhetoric. He's like the troll that suggests burning someone's house down, but then giggles delightfully later when called out on it, "Oh it was only just a joke! :hee:"...

Oh i'm sick and tired of their casual nonchalant attitude to guns ! ,Then there's the crazy gun nuts who don't want to have stricter gun laws
Practically every week there's a shooting in America  it's become the norm as twisted as that is :umm2:

I'm not too surprised this has happened, saddened, but not surprised. This is what happens if someone with enough followers pushes the message that you should hate the press for telling you what you don't want to hear, that you should declare everything you don't agree with as fake news, that the press is the enemy. These are messages that the extreme elements of the right (like Trump and the aforementioned Milo) are pushing frequently.
You shouldn't believe everything you hear, you should doubt sources and try to get the truth of the situation by looking up multiple sources but I think the utter demonisation of the media by the extreme right for essentially not pushing their narrative has probably led to this attack. That's my thoughts anyway, it's obviously early to say for certain.
I hope the body count doesn't rise anymore and that the police can get to the bottom of this asap.

Surprise, surprise!
Though I feel sorry for those affected and the level of gun violence in the states are unsettlingly high...:(

Or... possibly... if most of the media stopped demonizing half the population, then it wouldn't be so hated. Maybe if they only reported the facts, we would think they were serving us a vital function... but they play fast and loose with their facts, care more about ratings than the pursuit of truth and much of what they report does strongly follow a narrative. Yes, it is indeed rhetoric... I think Trump is further toxifying the atmosphere by chanting fake news at the back of the auditorium at his rallies, but we can't be so naive to think that the function of these frustrations begin with his campaign. Furthermore, to dumb down the state of our politics to this good versus evil narrative, is too naively simplistic. Except this is what some of the media does everyday, is discover new ways to fold this into their narrative... I don't think the media is responsible for these shootings or even for most of our problems, but I do think that to dismiss the fact the media has ceased promoting journalism in the pursuit of ratings doesn't really help to resolve this situation for us. We need a healthy media to succeed as a free-thinking society... we don't have that really and that's a major problem.

Another sickening, well-planned but surprise attack on Democracy by yet another coward with an arsenal of weapons, carried out on yet more innocent and unarmed people.
Whatever the 'cause' turns out to be when investigatons are completed, my heart goes out to the victims and their families.
The Police are to be commended too for the fact that they were 'on scene' within 60 seconds of being first notified.
Why do so many of these psychos have that certain 'intense' and insane look in their mugshots?
RIP to the dead.

The Killer Ramos is in custody
Supposedly he had some beef with this newspaper and had threatened them on social media in the past... he has some personal issue with them and sued them for defamation in 2012.

[The prime suspect of a newsroom shooting which killed five journalists used a legally purchased pump action shotgun.
Police in Annapolis said Jarrod Ramos used a gun he had purchased legally about a year ago to carry out the shooting in the Capital Gazette newsroom on Thursday.]
