I'm not signing it because it's utterly pointless. No one in China is beholden to or gives a **** about some meaningless petition that doesn't affect them in any way.
The only reason this petition exists is so that people can share it on Facebook and show off how wonderfully caring they are.

Like Dezzy said, it's really nothing to do with us. We eat bacon from pigs and steak from cows when there are other cultures and religious groups that forbid themselves from doing so. Of course I'm not saying it's the same, and I'm not saying it's right... But there's no point acting high and mighty when we're just as guilty.

For me it is how they are kept and treated, more importantly how they are killed.

While I understand the stance of 'this is nothing to do with us' and see that as a culture they see no wrong in eating dogs I think this particular festival is repulsive and should be stopped immediately.
They steal peoples pets and torture them in the street, breaking their bones and ripping their coats off while the aninals are still alive because apparently the meat tastes better if the animal is kept alige until they are final boiled alive. All this happens in the street as a celebration.
If you don't think that is fundamentally wrong then wowzers.
what about the way we kill lobster or sea urchin?

To me it's all the same Bots, nothing escapes the cruelty of man, that is why I would never eat any of it, if everybody took the stance that it's not our problem nothing will ever change with anything,a lot of these dogs have been saved so people trying to do good stuff, does work.
sea urchin is particularly gross to me. While it is still alive, they pierce it with scissors, then cut off the top, and then yank its tongues out

I believe that is also wrong.
For a long time I was vegetarian but I now eat tuna fish but only if is sourced in a certain way. I have no issue with others eating meat but any meat sourced from an animal in an abhorrent way should be stopped in my opinion.

Not really as cows (hopefully) are supposed to be fed watered and kept in good conditions, and when their time comes they should be stunned then killed ,whereas the dogs are purposely tortured, kept in disgusting conditions and are treated terribly.
When I read this title, I thought this was gonna be a video of a dog from China, eating a petition against some festival.

It doesn't matter how nicely we kill our animals, we're still pumping them with steroids and then kicking them into the slaughterhouse on a daily basis. To say one way of killing animals is more humane than another is crazy, because in both circumstances they're being killed for the pleasure of humans. And I'm trying not to be hypocritical because I eat meat, but I believe that the festival is wrong, just as much as I believe the way that we kill some animals is wrong, and if it was my dog that they stole from my home, I'd be flipping furious. But no petition is going to make them give a ****.

I honestly don't think it is when these dogs are being intentionally tortured and then killed in the most brutal painful ways possible, at least there is some small degree of mercy given to slaughtered animals over here if anything.

Well I for one would rather die from a gunshot to the head than have my skin ripped off or tossed into boiling water alive,I don't see why people can't see the difference, also some of these dogs have been saved through petitions etc , what is that saying ' Bad things happen ,when good men stand back and do nothing ' how true.Change can start with one person.

Fair point, as I said in my original argument I'm not saying they are the same thing, just that we are guilty of killing animals inhumanely and therefore can't really argue against another country doing so. I can't stress enough though, that I'm not supporting the festival or saying that I'm "OK" with it. Nor am I OK with some of the practices we have over here. I just think people need to start looking a little closer to home before taking issue with other cultures.

I'm not saying I agree with it but nothing we can do is gonna change anything. This petition is meaningless and no one can make China do anything they don't want to do.

Yup.
No matter how nicely you treat an animal beforehand, they still know what's going to happen to them and stunning isn't as humane as it's made out to be, they can still feel what's going to happen to them, it's not an anaesthetic, it's a health and safety issue so that the animal can't lash out at the executioner while it's dying.
Death is unpleasant, this festival even more so but at the end of the day you can't change either of these things.
