The popularity is growing, but i think it still lacks behind ice hockey somewhat, i think. The popularity is mostly due to the womens, girls, boys etc. youngsters national teams, who somewhat often qualify to the competitions. Especially the womens team is doing well nowadays. Due to that popularity is increasing on the womens and girls side more than on the boys, even though the juniors do much better job than the adults.

The mens adult team has always failed expectations (qualification hopes).

Club stage is what it is. Our team made to CL group stage once in 1997 and before or after that, not much else.

Congratulations to France for winning the World Cup and to their fans, and congratulations to Croatia aswell, and it was nice for their fans to experience their team in a World Cup final.

Personally though I do feel that Belgium should've won this World Cup, maybe it's because they played Football more to my preference, but they scored the most goals in the tournament which I feel made them deserving winners as the game is about scoring goals, but sadly it wasn't meant to be.

But great World Cup nonetheless... easily my favorite ever and I think I'd feel the same way even without Croatia's success this time around. Lots of great games and excitement throughout.

Subasic was NOT on his A-game today... really unfortunate. :( I feel like we played great but had some bad breaks (own goal header, the hand ball penalty kick, random people charging the field while we were on the attack - last part probably had no effect but still lol).

But France totally picked up the momentum in the second half and we just couldn't make anything out of our many possessions. </3

I think this was hands-down the best world cup of my lifetime. I attach a significant amount of nostalgia to 1998, which I would place second now... so many surprises, England surpassing expectations, some world-class goals and some of the most entertaining games I have ever seen:

Sweden 1-2 Germany for that comeback
Germany 0-2 South Korea for that final ten minutes
Argentina 3-4 France for the number of goals but also for the sheer awe of Pavard and Di Maria's goals
Belgium 3-2 Japan
Russia 2-2 Croatia
Spain 3-3 Portugal

I could go on...

Only downsides to the tournament were the usual diving complaints, and the couple of instances where VAR got it wrong. VAR on the whole... I don't know, I'm not sold. A lot of pundits have lauded it, saying it's an entertaining new element to the game, but I don't know... there's something a little bit "buzzkilly" about having to take 2 or 3 minutes out of the match to watch a referee watch a bit of telly. In the group stages in particular, there seemed to be four or five penalty calls a bloody game. Thankfully these dried up in the knockout stages.

It has been a good world cup with surprisingly few poor games. I think VAR has corrected more decisions than those that have remained wrong, and it does act as a security blanket against blatant cheating in the penalty area, which has to be a good thing.

All in all it gets a thumbs up from me.

Its been great, probably because there was so little hype about going to Russia and it was generally not seen as a great choice of host, proved very wrong, and England doing well and the feel good factor that generated, I doubt Brazil or Argentina fans will be pointing at this as a great WC :laugh:

It has been a good world cup with surprisingly few poor games. I think VAR has corrected more decisions than those that have remained wrong, and it does act as a security blanket against blatant cheating in the penalty area, which has to be a good thing.

All in all it gets a thumbs up from me.

The VAR team was always quite conveniently poor for England though I'd say.

Otherwise a pretty strong World Cup that actually holds it's own with club Football for a change.
