Ariana's Fiancée makes joke referencing Manchester Attack (Ari responds)

Ariana Grande's fiancé Pete Davidson joked about the Manchester Arena terror attack in an on-stage stand-up routine last year, it has emerged.

On May 22 last year, a terrorist detonated a bomb in the lobby of the arena after Grande had performed, claiming the lives of 22 people.

Referencing the incident, Davidson joked at a gig that Grande must know how famous she is "because Britney Spears didn't have a terrorist attack at her concert".

The Saturday Night Live star – who lost his firefighter father on September 11, 2001 and has drawn on the family tragedy in his comedy sets – has now responded to the backlash about the Manchester joke.

His representative told Metro: "He is a comedian. No subject is off limits and that includes jokes about his father and 9/11."

It's a ham-fisted attempt at "highly controversial" humour - which VERY few comedians can pull off without it seeming tryhard and cynical. I doubt he's one of them.

It’s crap and insensitive.But....i’d defend his right to make whatever jokes he wants(even if I don’t like them).Comedy is supposed to be one of the last bastions of free speech.It’s already been dumbed down alot with comedians scared of the Twitter reaction.

He's now engaged to Arianna Grande... you've got to expect people to pick up on what he said. I'm not one of those people who think that every subject is fair game as long as it's funny. If you're going to make a joke about an event where kids died, you're going to have to expect people to think you're a bit sick.

Well yeah,People have the right to say they think it’s sick or crap or whatevs.

I just see how scared everyone is now to say anything controversial incase they get their career ended and banned from TV channels/shows/events etc.
Free speech afterall is only really needed when something is said that we(or somebody)doesn’t like.

This comedian thrives off tasteless jokes !. I've seen the roast where his dead dad got ripped to shreds for dying in 9/11!! :shocked: . His comedy isn't even comedy it's just seeing how far he can push the boundaries and seeing how offensive he can get :bored: .

some of my friends were there luckily they were safe but I had people around me that were connected to people that had died and so did the area so it really did impact me :( it really depresses me when people joke about it but this has clearly been dug up to create drama which frustrates me because people wouldn’t be exposed to it If it wasn’t for these ****ty newspapers plastering it everywhere if that makes sense :/ doesn’t excuse what be said but it’s been lifted out of his show with no other context so it just feels like them stirring **** up

this has been v tough & conflicting on my heart. he uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. we all deal w trauma differently. I of course didn't find it funny. it was months ago and his intention wasn't/is never malicious but it was unfortunate
